( » » goodbye cheyenne. )
Kit supposed that was her fate. She had always been in love with the books full of wandering souls and restlessness. Before, it wasn’t a desire to leave as much as a desire to know more. Now, it was a desire to not get attached. She wondered which of these people she hardly knew would leave first, to disappear without a trace like her family. So it was only logical to leave before that happened.
She was sad, of course. Sadness was always there, but it left her after a while. Just like she was leaving this city. She wanted to see the Atlantic. She didn’t really want to go, but it was time to leave, she thought. Her mind wasn’t... sorted enough to love another person like she loved her family. It wasn’t ready, not yet. So it was time to leave, to build up her mind and heart as she ate up the miles to places she had never seen before.
The pack hung loosely on her shoulders, there was food in there of course but she only had her book of Emily Dickinson out of her collection. She would find more on the way. And the way was long, there would be plenty. Her cold fingers curled into loose balls inside her jacket, maybe she would go down to the Gulf Coast after seeing the Atlantic. It was warm down there, and she had all the time in the world.
“Goodbye, Cheyenne.”
