I took these photos on my Hastings trip. I really like the vibe of these photos, they capture the essence of travel and exploration which fit really well with my artists and my promo video idea.
Unfortunately, I took and edited these photos on my phone - so I didn’t want to use them.
Album Shoot
I shot the artist and booklet photos with Jack in Shoreditch. I’ve worked with him before Christmas last year, and he fits the vibe that I was going for. The younger generation, that likes to travel and explore new things. The MUA I used was Rebecca Hampson - only did basic make up, and touch ups.
Storyboard + Inspo
The storyboard for my promo concept. The idea still follows the theme of exploration and travel, which the music will be (travel music for vlogs). Although I can’t draw, I gave a crack at it.
The video involves a girl travelling around a city, periodically she’ll say “To explore”, “To love”, and “To seek” - followed by “this is what it means to live”. I want it to lead to something. My artist’s music is supposed to be inspiration, it should encourage people to be adventurous and to travel - those words will make this promo authentic to his aesthetic.
The storyboard concept still carries inspiration from my previously stated music videos. But when illustrating the final few frames, I took inspiration from a scene in an anime movie I watched this year - “Your Name”. I liked the pan, I think it would work even better with a dolly zoom and an animated ‘twinkle’ - as if a star exploded light years away (to keep in theme of the album name, Supernova).
Changes to the project
I wasn’t able to go away to get the outdoor - yellow raincoat shot that I had originally intended for the cover. So I’m having to change the concept from that idea to a shot of an artist. I still want to keep the idea of travel and exploration. To do this, I’ll be including landscape/cityscape photos, and photos of travel tickets inside the booklet, to give the illusion that it could be shot on tour.

Update to the video.
I’ve decided to scrap the original video idea (the one where I shot a test in Hastings). The reason for this is, because the video was more like a music video rather than a promo video for an artist. Above, is a basic shot list of ideas that I will do for my promo video. I decided to just illustrate a storyboard due to lack of time.
Test
I shot a short video on my weekend away in Hastings. From the test, I wanted to see if I could get the editing style, and the vibes of the music video.
Influences
Throughout my final year of uni, I touched upon the idea of an intimate vintage style video. For my SIP, I made a video to go express emotions that I couldn’t via stills.
Recently for my FMP, I shot a video series to accompany my book - detailing the behind the scenes adventures on my journey.

Shift K3Y - I Know
I really liked the journey from paradise to the street of London. The colour grading of the video is reminiscent of retro videos, with the off white and off colour shades. Despite the ‘acting’, it is quite similar to an old travel video if you focus on just the technical aspects.
One Direction - Night Changes
From the dark days before Zayn’s departure, Night Changes captures the cuteness of a date from the perspective of the girl. I love the POV aspect, I think it’ll be a great way to capture genuine expressions and intimate moments - which is what I want my music video/travel MV to have. At the moment, I’m not quite sure lip syncing is what I’m looking for.
HONNE - Someone That Loves You
To describe this video bluntly, its the perfect combination of Shift K3Y’s and One Direction’s video. It captures the beauty of young love, with the beauty of the city and landscapes - all while keeping it cool and retro. I would love to do something in the style of these three videos.
The Book
I was pleased with the way the book turned out. I used Blurb to print my book - I had originally planned to use Artifact Uprising, but because it’s a US company I wouldn’t have enough time to do a test if things go wrong.
I chose a standard hardback 8 x 10 portrait book, with uncoated eggshell texture. The uncoated pages presented the colours honestly, and it has a eco-friendly sort of vibe. It almost feels like recycled paper. I took inspiration for this from Andre Josselin’s ‘Us’ book which had uncoated pages.
Estimates vs Actual Budget
I went over the estimate slightly, mostly through my other expenses. I took more money out than I had actually intended to spend. I didn’t realise how cashless the cities were. I made an effort to spend my Norwegian and Swedish currencies, but I barely touched the £100 I exchange in DKK.

Creating the book
I used Blurb’s InDesign plugin, which made getting the measurements and the settings of the book easier. I tried to make the book as minimalistic as possible - similar to the Scandinavian design, and similar to Cereal’s book on Copenhagen. The white backgrounds with minimal text worked well to create a nice aesthetic that stays true to Scandinavian style.
Oslo
Oslo was more chilled for me - excuse the pun. I wanted to end the trip on a personal note - I had enough content from my previous shoots. I just wanted to enjoy Oslo, and not rush through it like the previous cities.

My first shoot in Stockholm was with two girls from Le Management. This was the only and first shoot I’d done in a while - which involved two girls at the same time. I found it more difficult because I’m not good with multiple subjects.
Contacting Visit Stockholm
On my free day in Stockholm, I was looking for places to shoot - so I contacted Visit Stockholm’s Instagram page. I originally contacted Visit Sweden before my trip, but they were unable to help me. Luckily, Visit Stockholm is a smaller branch so they were able to help me quickly.
STH.
Where I was staying in Stockholm (Sodermalm), had really great views of the city. I was wondering around there on my free days. I found out after the second time of wandering - that I don’t like taking cityscape shots. Nothing really attracts me to shoot the city, I prefer mixing people with the landscape (which you’ll see later on).
