I like one idea in fantasy worlds:
Elves and Dwarves etc. constantly forget that one generation in their species are several generations to humans. So sometimes they had the situation, where dwarven merchants could look for some human farmer or mercenary and be surprised this guy already retired and lives with his grandchildren or something. Or elven mage who wants to pay a short visit to his human student and by some accident stay long enough to be a guest at his wedding, see his children to be born and help in raising them, return to his home only after the child(ren) are old enough to be his next student.
