Celebrating Imbolc as a solitary practitionner
You'll find that some of these ideas wander a little outside your typical Imbolc rituals, as I've included many of my own experiences alongside your more traditional practices!
Baking sweets or bread! Oatcakes, honey cakes, scones, herb bread (bonus points for use of rosemary), and lamb are among my favorite Imbolc dishes. Anything herb, oat, dairy, or honey is typical.
Cleaning your home, coupled with cleansing of the rooms and objects of your choice.
Make yourself a nice cup of tea! Lavender and chamomile tea are staples. Bonus: sweeten it using honey and milk, both traditional ingredients of the season.
Learn about the Goddess Brigid! I'm a heathen, but I've always found it rewarding and fulfilling to learn about other mythologies and deities of other pantheons! You'll find the myth of Brigid is tightly intertwined with the celebration of Imbolc, and understanding one leads to a better understanding of the other.
Decorating with white, blue, red and gold! Lambs, the moon, corn dolls, fire, brooms, sunwheels, eggs, candles, and snowdrops are imagery associated with this celebration.
Work with the moon, or with a moon deity that you worship.
Making or decorating candles, and crafting Brigid's crosses.
Enjoy a glass of milk! Feel free to flavor it using honey, blackberry syrup or leaves, chamomile, or elderflower! (Important note: elder flowers, not berries or other parts of the elder plant, which are poisnonous when uncooked.) Bonus points if you enjoy an apple alongside it! I've taken to making apple quarters to eat when night has fallen on February 1st.
Make a list of elements of your life that you would like to see "grow"! What are your current ambitions? What projects do you want to see bear fruit?
Start a knitting project, or learn how to knit! Making a cloak, referred to as Brigid's mantle, is a common way to honor the Goddess Brigid.
Visit a local body of water, especially springs! They are the perfect spot to notice the end of winter, when their ice begins to melt. It's common practice to make pebble offerings to bodies of water, in order to thank the earth for its gift of sweet water.
Make an offering to the faerie folk (for example, milk and biscuits), or start learning how to work with them.
Acquire a new house plant, or even better: sow a seed for a new plant to grow in your home!
Work with the element of fire, for example, by practicing fire-based magic, by lighting candles in the house, or by lighting a bonfire/hearth fire.
Play calm music, especially harp music!
Appreciate the quiet and calm of nighttime, for example, by leaving your home in the dark once the sun sets, and lighting it up with nothing but candles as a symbol of the returning sun.
Reading or reciting poetry! Especially poetry pertaining to the night, winter, spring, nature and the like. Feeling inspired? Why not try writing some poetry yourself!

One of my favorite kennings for Loki is "farmr Sigvinjar arma", which translates roughly to "the cargo of Sigyn's arms". Add a little Gustav Klimt to the equation, and you have an idea that's been plaguing me for months.

Sigyn by the amazing Sylvia Strijk
At the Comic con in Brussels earlier this year, I got to meet the great and lovely @strijkdesign. Her illustrations and talent blew me away and I had to ask her for a portrait of Sigyn. I think this might be one of my favourites, in all honesty! Simply amazing, I have no words. Thanks again for this masterpiece!! <3

I finally got around to reading Lea Svendsen's book, Loki and Sigyn: Lessons on Chaos, Laughter, and Loyalty from the Norse Gods. While there were a few very minor things I disagreed with, it's something I think all Heathens and Loki-curious folks need to read. I wish there was a tad more on Sigyn, but there is just so much to say about Loki that it's not at all surpising that he dominates the text a little lol. It was such a good book.
But I didn't really come here to give a book review. I came here to share a few entries from the glossary. Because the way Lea describes a few things is just...😙🤌
The last sentence got me 🤣
Poor Thor, but not incorrect in my experience 🤣
This was just right on the money for me. He does naturally share more physical traits with Loki than the character does. 🤣 I am also of the belief that Loki had a hand in getting Tom cast. If someone is gonna play a character bearing his name (to the point where their visage is basically synonymous with his name), they gotta be handsome and charming and play the character sympathetically. Personally, I think Tom fits that bill lol
On a related note, I did appreciate Lea's lack of disdain for Marvel. It's not always accurate to the lore or who the deities are, sure, but it's bringing people (myself included) to the deities. I think they generally appreciate that, as long as folks are able to move beyond the Marvel material. And as I've said before, they sometimes find ways to work themselves into that material, whether the writers/creators believe in them or not.
Anyway, highly recommend this book!
Sigyn by thereinart :)
As a fan of the Epic musical, I have seen a lot of fan arts for this fandom and one of my favourite artist is the amazing @thereinart. Check out her art, it's beautiful!
So of course, I had to ask her for an illustration of Sigyn, and LOOK AT THIS. How cool and epic (non pun intented XD) this looks :D The colors, the background, the movement and dynamics of the art... Everything is brilliant!! :D
Thanks again for your incredible talent, @thereinart <3
Ananke, Athenian red-figure lekythos (ca. 5th BCE)
ANANKE was the primordial goddess (protogenos) of necessity, compulsion and inevitability. In the Orphic cosmogony she emerged self-formed at the dawn of creation--an incorporeal, serpentine being whose outstretched arms encompassed the breadth of the cosmos. Ananke and her mate Khronos (Chronos) (Time), their serpentine coils entwined, crushed the primal egg of creation splitting it into its constituent parts of earth, heaven and sea to form the ordered universe. After their act of creation Ananke and Khronos encircled the cosmos to drive the rotation of the heavens and the eternal passage of time. They were beyond the reach of the younger gods whose fates they were sometimes said to control.

A video so you can get the idea of how I made those marzipan chocolate pine cones! The chocolate part is just a batch of regular brownies - I just reduced the sugar a bit and added some almond meal. Then you just crumble it up shape it to make your pinecone base to stick the chocolate cereal into! You don’t have to put marzipan in the middle, but I love it 🥰
finally got around to redesigning the celestial and seasonal celebrations of the pagan year to make em more cryptid- happy belated litha folks!
