Star Trek is crazy you’ll look away for two seconds and then Kirk is suddenly shirtless in a harness and a shock collar
I know people don't like having the blindingly obvious suggested to them but the following do have to regularly be said to people I know so:
Have you tried turning it off and then on again?
Is it plugged in properly?
What does the manual say?
You can probably Google that
Have you eaten?
I know you remember making the food but did you actually eat it?
Well do it sitting down then
You're probably having a reaction to one of the ingredients, read the label and see if there's anything in there that you recognise
Okay did you actually tell him that? With your mouth? Using words?
The painkillers only work if you take them
Cool had has self-flagellating actually made this work before or?
Yeah okay you 'must remember to' but you remember to NOW so do it NOW
Put it in your fucking calendar
Do you want me to show you how to set up reminders
So use BOTH hands then
... the suggestions of the blindingly obvious will continue until people demonstrate consistently that they don't need it.
did you take your fucking meds
never forget that the US had incredibly widespread public transit- electrical, in the case of many local elevated rail and trolley systems -by the 1890s
if anyone ever tells you we can't do it because "the country is too big for that" or whatever, they're full of shit. because we not only could, we DID
we definitely could again- but for auto lobbyists, and conservatives taking funding from infrastructure
Every time I argue with someone about the "virtues" of mob justice and how often it's weaponized against marginalized men especially as an excuse to commit acts of extreme violence against them for literally no reason, the person arguing for mob justice simply refuses to acknowledge it. I can give so many names and examples of people who were falsely accused of crimes and then nrutally murdered by the community, by people who genuinely thought that they were in the right, and it just does not get through to the other person at all. They always think that somehow, magically, their version of mob justice will be free of biases and bigotry and no one innocent will ever be harmed.
What's especially chilling is when the people arguing in favor of that kind of violence don't even realize when they're someone who would very easily become a victim of it.
Me: Here is a list of marginalized men who were kidnapped, tortured, mutilated, and murdered because of false accusations thrown at them based in hate and bigotry.
Person: And that sucks and it's a real shame but that just means that we need to be stricter about community justice and make sure that the accusations are actually true.
Me: You mean like in a fucking trial? In a courtroom? Handled by trained professionals and using actual evidence with a thorough investigation? The literal complete opposite of what you're advocating for???
"don't assign human morality to non human things" is so true except when it comes to printers. they know what they are, they understand dilemmas and ethics and morality. they choose to be how they are, they choose to be evil, at their very core they are rotten
where are the lies.
As a Greek, in response to the current controversy about Matt Damon being cast as Odysseus, I'd just like to share that one of the moments that changed my brain chemistry as a kid was reading a novelized version of the Odyssey and coming across the following description of Odysseus when Circe sees him for the first time and thinks he's hot: "his hair curled like a clematis and his eyes were very brown".
So may I present my own casting choice for Odysseus:
Excuse me???
you are right and you should say it.
Is this the face of a man who would put his own infant in front of a plow to avoid going to war?
Absolutely not
You know who would try that shit?
Is this the face of a man who would defy the very gods to get home to his wife?
You know who would defy the gods just to show he could get away with it?
The last thing Penelope's suitors ever see:
We also seem to keep forgetting the "Odysseus is hawt" factor. Like he's got so much rizz he has nymphs and witches keeping him around as a toy. Matt Damon has the presence and charisma of wonderbread.

Shout out to characters who want to be used. Shout out to characters who are so desperate to be worth something that they'll endure anything. Shout out to characters who build their entire self worth around being useful, being a tool. Shout out to characters who don't care how they are treated, as long as someone pays them any attention at all
Can’t help but notice that the people who try to tell me that the only solution to our problems is to kill billionaires are not themselves out there killing billionaires.
I’m all for improving society. What makes me roll my eyes is people who seem to think that the only actions that can improve society are violent ones and who never take steps to do those violent actions that they advocate for.
Besides, there’s a whole system there ready for other rich people to step into if you kill a few billionaires. Functionally nothing would change. You need legal and structural solutions to these sorts of things that takes years of difficult advocacy which a lot of internet people who call for violent solutions also don’t seem willing to do.
my general opinion on what people should be "allowed" to portray and what topics they should be "allowed" to explore in fiction is that you can make whatever art with whatever themes you want but i'm also allowed to think the way you handled it was tasteless and should've been done differently. my negative opinion on your handling of sensitive topics is the price of admission for publicly showcasing your work. this is not a pro-censorship stance because i am not The Government
this is getting really popular so i’d like to add the important caveat that your criticism of a work is no more unassailable than the work itself. just as one is entitled to be critical of something someone else is entitled to disagree with that criticism. i add this because some of you pretend to give a fuck about thoughtful analysis and then when someone points out flaws in your argument you declare that all criticisms are valid. this is untrue. the status of a hater is no more sacred than that of a liker. get off your high horse and engage in the thoughtful discussion you pretend to believe in or perish by my blade
I’ve always sort of avoided drawing Loki in his myths, for various reasons, one of them being that my style is so different that I suppose I felt like it wouldn’t suit it. Also this particular myth really hurts (as a Lokean) but for some reason, I felt called to finally tackle it in my style. It’s my first Loki piece in quite a while (and I feel it turned into more of a Sigyn piece tbh) and I’m actually super proud of it.

clark kent ticking the organ donor box on his drivers license automatically out of the goodness of his heart and then panicking because what if he actually dies somehow and some human gets a super heart what would even HAPPEN like he can't have his kryptonian retinas with laser vision donated to a random eight year old and so he has to awkwardly go back to the DMV to get it changed to not an organ donor but he's so embarrassed the whole time because the DMV employees will think he's a bad person that by the time he's done he has to go cry in the car
