There should have been alarm bells ringing in the youngest Hearst’s mind as she made the decision to meet up with Lorena’s ex, and Evie’s brother, but instead she pushed aside any of those thoughts and replaced them with something entirely different. She’d known Kit for a long time, she had known him though Evie and had always had some sort of strange attraction to him. Maybe it was curiosity or awe at the way he carried himself. Most of the men she associated with had a want for attention and fame, but Kit wasn’t like that at all.
“Yeah, she’s… Lorena,” Reign didn’t really know how to describe her annoyance with Lorena just yet- was it anger? Hatred? No. It wasn’t that strong surely. She couldn’t tell. All she knew was that she didn’t even want to spend another minute around Lorena at the moment, all she knew was that she wanted Lorena to know how it felt to not be a priority to her. She took a sip of her drink, a small smile on her lips, pushing Lorena from her mind, she didn’t want to ruin her evening thinking about her, but that was difficult to do when somehow she kept coming up in conversation. Could she not escape her? “Oh, you did?” And now Evie had come up too. Great. “How about we talk about anything else- literally anything. I feel like all I’ve been talking about- thinking about is Lorena the past few days, I need a break- what about you? How’s New York treating you?” she questioned, glad that the previous topic had disappeared as she took another sip from her glass, readjusting her sitting position, which only made her more aware of how close their legs were, she could hardly move without brushing against him. She looked up at him again, her eyes narrowing slightly as he answered, the same curiosity they always held only deepening.
There was an upset between him and Lorena that he knew could never be addressed or fixed. It had the potential, but Kit would rather not pretend he wanted that. Their relationship had been good at first and then their habits drilled against them, becoming more cautiously aware of each other. Kit began to see the passiveness to her and she began to see how tied to work he was. It wasn’t something he could change or wanted to make adjustments for. He wouldn’t forget how she drowned his phone in a drink at a party, but he still partially blamed himself for letting it go to that point.
He knew how she could be and through his time with her, rarely did he see Reign and her fight or at least not to these extremes. “Yes, the dinner-” he began to say, but once she wanted to mute the topic, he bit back his words. Kit seemed stunned for a moment at the suddenness but would pardon Reign from the topic of Lorena. It was the least he could do as he didn’t know the details but could see the stress colored on her face. “Oh-good. I don’t start work until Monday. Just moved here yesterday. Once all the boxes are unpacked it could possibly feel like home. Busier than I thought it would be, though compared to D.C anything is more exciting.” They were sitting rather close and his hand naturally fell from his own thigh to hers as they were already close.
