Here's a prompt for an alternate first meeting for Bucktommy: Tommy has a random hookup and an embarrassing incident happens, so he has to call 911. Of course, the 118 comes to the rescue, including the guy who kind of replaced him.

1. Tommy's handcuffed to a bed, and there's a guy passed out on his floor. He literally saw Gerald's Game a month ago, so he immediately yells for Siri to call 911 while he tries to break the bedframe. He only has a vague idea of the address, describes the house as best he can once he remembers the street name. Thankfully, he doesn't recognize the operator's voice. But she's nice, at least. She also tries to reassure him that similar things happen all the time. "Yeah, I know," he sighs.
2. He's mentally trying to figure out what it'll cost him in bribes for this to never get out to the rest of the LAFD. He's pretty sure he can afford to delay his retirement by a year or two. And then he hears a familiar voice yell out: "LAFD! Call out, let us know where you are." So he mentally bumps his retirement back by five years and calls, "In here, Bobby!" And there's a brief pause and murmur before the door opens. Tommy raises his thigh so he's not flashing his dick to three people he used to work with. "Pretty sure he took Viagra," he says, nodding toward his hookup, who's starting to stir awake. "So if you could, uh, help him. That would be great." And Hen and Chimney jump into action, and Bobby steps aside to let in a kid who's got a handcuff key pinched between his fingers. "How you been, Tommy?" Bobby asks mildly. "Oh, you know, doing okay," Tommy replies. "Harbor's great." "That's good," he says. The kid carefully lays the duvet over Tommy's bottom half and comes around to the other side and smiles down at him. It's a beautiful smile, top 5 that Tommy's ever seen. "Hey, uh, how long have you been in this position?" the kid, Buckley, asks. "Long enough that this is about to hurt," Tommy admits. "O-okay. It's just a blood--you already know that," he says, flushing. "Yeah, but the distraction would be nice," Tommy says with a smile. When Buckley is carefully easing Tommy's arms down, he's speaking in low tones and instructing him to open and close his hands. Tommy pushes himself up into a seated position just in time to see the guy--Eric? Aaron?--get sat up by Hen. "Sorry, man," the guy croaks. "It's fine," Tommy says, rubbing his shoulder.
3. It was a blood pressure drop--the guy, Darren, has pretty low blood pressure and got the Viagra from a friend and then sniffed some poppers. He gets put in the back of an ambulance by EMTs, and Hen and Chimney turn and look at him with obvious interest and curiosity. "I came out after I transferred," Tommy says as he pulls on his shirt. "Good for you," Bobby says almost firmly, like he's trying to put a stop to further questions. Tommy appreciates it. He already feels like his neck, ears, and face will be red forever. But the kid--Evan or Buck or Buckley, it depends on who's saying it--carefully tapes a piece of gauze to the spot on Tommy's wrist where he'd rubbed it raw trying to yank the chain through the surprisingly sturdy headboard. "You don't need to," Tommy says softly. "Mm, it's good practice," Evan says, smiling as he works. "I'm, uh, the probie. I just started a few months ago." "Congratulations," Tommy says, smiling. "I think you're my replacement." "Y-yeah, that's what Bobby said," he says, smiling back. "Um, are you really a pilot?"
4. Tommy gives Evan a tour of Harbor. It's good for him to be familiar with other types of houses, or so Tommy reasons. Really, he just likes the way the kid trips over himself and blushes and smiles, and Tommy catches him looking low, like he was checking Tommy's ass out or something. To be fair, he's already seen it. Hell, he saw everything. Thank god Tommy isn't prone to adrenaline boners anymore, because he was soft when they'd shown up. But still, Evan's seen it all. "If you ever want to transfer, you know where to go," he says when he looks over his shoulder, and yeah, Evan's eyes were just on his ass. Caught, Evan's cheeks go more pink as he meets Tommy's eyes. "Or if you just want to hang out," Tommy adds, smiling. "Or whatever." And they're walking through the airfield all the way to the edge, strolling along. There's a fence with a storage shed butted up against it. It holds spare stuff the mechanics use, but no one's ever there unless they're ducking behind it for a smoke. Or, in Tommy's case, to back a cute firefighter up against the wall and kiss him.
5. Evan's panting after just one kiss, and he's looking at Tommy like he's equally scared, curious, and turned on. "Huh," he says, which is a weird response to someone kissing you. But then he pulls Tommy in for another kiss, and then they're making out and Tommy has to put a stop to it, even though he started it. "As much as I want to, not here," he says, and Evan blinks owlishly at him. "Or...not at all?" "I mean, I'm open to it," Evan says before dragging him back in for another kiss, and they end up needing to separate again. Tommy gives him his address, since Evan apparently lives at some kind of fraternity house situation. Evan pulls up to his house a few minutes after Tommy, and he walks in looking like the epitome of "guy who's about to get laid." It's a good thing Tommy's neighbors don't care. But he pulls Evan in and kisses him against the door, and they make out all the way to Tommy's couch, because his room is too far. "I didn't bring handcuffs," Evan teases, and Tommy pinches his ass. It's not until they're both basically naked that Evan looks up from where he's been staring at Tommy's dick for about thirty seconds and says, "I've never done this before." Tommy's happy to make out with him and stroke his dick, and he's expecting it to be pretty one-sided, because he'd been a selfish piece of shit when he'd first hooked up with guys before he was out. But Evan strokes him right back and goes for Tommy's nipples with his mouth and says he's got a great physique. "Thanks," Tommy chokes out with a laugh.
6. After, they're getting dressed, and Evan looks like he's about to say something and Tommy braces himself. "So, uh, am I allowed to ask you out or are you not into that?" Evan asks. "N-no, I'm into it," Tommy says, blinking. "You are, too?" Evan shrugs and smiles. "I like talking to you," he says. "I just, uh, noticed that a lot of people in LA--well, women--don't really want to meet up again after. Which is cool, but--yeah." Tommy tips his chin up and kisses him, soft and gentle. "What are you doing Saturday?" he asks softly.
7. There's so much blood. Head wounds always bleed too goddamn much, and it's worse when someone's on blood thinners. Tommy grabs the ring of keys with his toes and stretches until he can get it into his hand. He unlocks himself and rockets out of bed, going to Evan. "You okay?" he asks, already dialing 911. "What happened?" "Got dizzy," Evan slurs softly, trying to push himself up. "C'n I pu' pants on?" Tommy gets them both dressed, so by the time Sal and his crew come crashing through the front door, they've at least got a little dignity left. Tommy climbs into the back of the ambulance and calls Maddie. "Heyyy," he says when she answers. "So Evan had a little accident. He's fine. Will be fine. We're on our way to the hospital. He hit his head." "What happened?" she asks. "How'd he hit it? Is he conscious?" And Tommy doesn't have the heart to tell her that her brother came so hard he experienced vasovagal syncope after, so he just tells her, "I don't think he ate enough today." Which is also probably true. Evan grumbles, and Tommy leans in to hear him better. "I ate plenty," Evan mumbles. "Ate your ass jus--" And Tommy reflexively covers his mouth, and the paramedic sitting across from him pointedly removes it. "I gotta go," Tommy says quickly, hanging up the phone. "H'ppy 'niversary," Evan says, smiling dopily. Tommy sighs and brushes a bloody curl back from his forehead. "Happy anniversary, baby," he replies.

Okay, but this is really important: Bruce Springsteen occupied this really weird place in music history. His songs were all from this pessimistic, nihilistic view of an America that had let him down:
Just like the anti-Vietnam War protest songs that we associate with the 1960s, or the early nihilism that spawned punk music in the 1970s. But he didn’t *sound* like a punk anarchist; he sounded like a country rock singer. When he released Born in the U.S.A. people completely misinterpreted (or possibly ignored) the lyrics in favor of the tone of the music.
Politicians used his music to promote their ‘Murica Yes! brand, and he had to literally explain that that was not what he was about. He’s over here asking when we’re going to have jobs and heathcare, not stanning the politicians who weren’t helping the people.
It was also kind of a big deal that he had an integrated band, because even as late as the 1980s music was still kind of segregated and MTV was straight up racist. They refused to play and promote black artists and then claimed that were no black artists in the first place. Michael Jackson’s record company had to threaten a boycott of their white artists to get MTV to play his Thriller video.
Plus, the first black/white interracial kiss on TV was in 1968 (OG Star Trek). Also it took us until the 70s to get sympathetic gay characters on screen, and the 90s to get gay characters to kiss onscreen. And all of those firsts were met with outrage.
So keep that in mind when you see Bruce Springsteen not just playing with an interracial band, but engaging in an interracial, gay kiss on stage repeatedly.

We have fewer narratives about taking risks and making statements for platonic love rather than romantic and supposedly it would be easier to downplay this onstage than romance and! They refused! They fucking refused! In front of hundreds of thousands of people, over the course of years! In the spotlight, in word and deed, I love you!
