I’m OBSESSED with how GameFreak accidentally made the most autistic character ever with Red when they were just trying to make him represent as broad a player base of the original games as possible. He’s canonically semi-verbal, and the number of times he actually speaks can be counted on one hand. He’s absurdly skilled at one topic he has an interest in, being a prodigy outranking almost everyone at fourteen. He immediately ran away from what was essentially a public facing job relating to it and hid away from people completely for several years to the point his own mother had no clue how he was. He rarely emotes and only people close to him seem to understand how he’s feeling. He’s almost always depicted as fiddling with the brim of his hat compulsively. He is seen as cool and badass BECAUSE of these traits. Fucking excellent. I love it. Best character ever. GameFreak should bring him back in every game.
i have one ship and it's lover x knight. i don't even know why i like it i just think they're neat
time for me to yap about my personality headcanons bc I have Thoughts. and also rambles on the actual ship. supportive rambles, of course, I'll try to ship any pair you guys bring me XD
So. Lover. One interpretation of Lover is a gal who's fun and likes to sleep around and is a bit of a tease. I'd argue that the confident pose & big grin support that. Her bonus info is "She once dumped a warlock. Said his aura screamed 'emotional baggage.'" Which is a reasonable action for any woman to take, regardless of personality, but also it's interesting how her info is about who she dumped and that she's not interested in 'emotional baggage'. Nothing to indicate she's a softer, more romantic type. I don't think she is.
And then we move on to Knight. I just posted a draft with further thoughts on Knight (bc he's one of my faves, I cannot lie). tl;dr he has a Superman pose, a death glare, and his ability is simply "I can't die". he's an insanely confident, if serious, guy. he's blushing a little but he's trying SO hard to seem tough. if he's uncorrupted, he IS tough. he can withstand attacks that slay literal demons, from literal demons. idk I just feel like his personality is much more straight forward. he's the Knight XD
also. side note. he and Judge are the only male Villagers to have pink as a strong color in their palette. the others are women, evil, or evil women. actually most villagers & outcasts lean very, very blue/teal/green while colors like red/cerise/pink are preferred by Evils. idk where I'm going with this.
so anyways. with that understanding of them, this is Lover x Knight to me
He tries to be the big, strong Knight and protector of the village and she's the fun, teasing village girl who gets the stick out of his ass XD
like just overall they'd be that serious x fun, opposite attracts ship. in a modern au Lover would always be posting pictures and at BEST he has a neutral expression in each one but she knows he loves her because he's willing to take "stupid" pictures with her. he'd wear Mickey Mouse ears if she took him to Disney. he'd wear an ugly Christmas sweater if she gave him one. goofy glasses on New Year's. matching Halloween costumes. etc.
Knights as a character trope tend to be very loyal and pretty good at taking orders, so Knight is her loyal guard dog and he'd want her happy. he does whatever she asks and that's how he shows his affection to her. Lover shows him affection in a more physical way, kisses and hand holding and putting her head on his shoulder. every time he blushes harder and that makes her happy.
I think in private he'd be more willing to open up and smile and speak candidly though. it's not a total 180 but he's not a brick wall either yanno. like he can chill a bit when they're alone.
BUT that is just my interpretation, I'd love to hear other takes on them. these characters are all very flexible and that can make for some really cool characterizations since we all fill in the blanks a little differently
God could you imagine a scene in a fantasy movie or some shit where the heroes kill the main villain’s prized general or some shit and the villain pins one of their henchmen to the wall and is all like “Who killed my second-in-command?!?” and the henchman just like “we don’t know sir it was just some band of no-name adventurers!” and then the camera pans over to the adventurers just like
