For Kingdom, For Her - Liam x OC, Maxwell x MC (TRR Fanfic) (10/?)
Book: The Royal Romance
Pairing: Liam x OC (Kina)
Rating:NSFW
Summary: In the aftermath of the attack, the Unity Tour starts off at Fydelia. But Madeleine still nurses a deep grudge not only to the royal family, but to the new Duchess Riley, and point blank refuses to step in to help. Help comes in a different form… and one that absolutely distracts Liam in ways he never expected.
A/N: So much muse for this now.
----
Liam had been deep in conversation with his father and a few other noblemen when the commotion right in the middle of the dancefloor made him turn, just to see Neville stalking out. He cursed in his head, eyes roaming and falling right on the running figure of Kina, who wore a panicky expression on her face as she approached him.
"Can't you do anything?" she asked.
He shook his head, watching as his father and Regina started for the doors where everyone else had gathered. "Its a duel. We have no say about it. It's an age-old fight for honor."
Kina resisted the urge to plant her palm on her forehead. Of all the barbaric ways one could do things! What was it with men and their honor?
Wasting no time, Liam grabbed her hand and they both hurried out, just in time to see their friends crowding around Drake. Joining in the gang, Liam was quick to clasp his hands on his best friend's shoulder, squeezing it gently. "You're the toughest person I know, Drake. You can do this."
"Guess I should thank you for all those mock duels we had as kids."
Kina rolled her eyes as the two men shared a chuckle, still failing to see how they could find humor in the situation. She turned to look at Riley and Hana, who both wore equally worried expressions.
“Just... be careful. Please.”
Kina saw a hint of emotion that disappeared as quick as it had appeared in Drake’s eyes, but attention was quickly taken away when Maxwell spoke up next.
"And I'll be right by your side... filming everything!"
"Just what I need. Thanks, Maxwell. You always know what to say."
Watching as the conversation flowed between everyone, Kina's fists tightened when Neville interrupted Riley's well-wishes. Of one accord, the whole gang's eyes turned to Neville with hostility, yet it was as if the clueless nobleman did not notice, as he swaggered up to them.
"Well, well, Mr. Walker. It's time."
As they all shuffled back to allow the two duellers space, Kina felt Liam's fingers find hers, twining around the other and giving it a warm squeeze. Looking up, she found Liam's comforting eyes staring down at her, warmth brimming in them. "Don't worry," he reassured, turning back to the scene. "I have faith in Drake. He would always be my second."
Kina scowled and swatted him with her free hand. "You are not participating in any duels, not anytime soon."
Liam's chuckle was drowned out by King Constantine's loud declaration, and with no further warning, the duel started with Neville lunging at Drake, causing a collective gasp to go up. For the longest moment, it would seem as if Neville had the upper-hand, getting in blow after blow. Despite their cheers, all of their hearts sank as Drake got hit to the ground, disarmed of his sword.
But Riley was having none of it.
"Drake, get up! He doesn't know a damned thing about you!"
Much to Kina's surprise, all it took were those simple words, for the rugged Drake to suddenly come back fighting, taking swing after swing at Neville until finally, he caught the other's sword and pressed the tip at his neck.
"He is a fighter, isn't he?" she murmured in surprise.
Liam chuckled, and she could detect a hint of pride when his father declared the winner. "That's why he's my best friend." he muttered to Kina, squeezing her hands again, before calling out loudly over the applause, "Well fought!"
Wasting no time in rushing forward to congratulate him, Kina found herself hanging back to watch the congregation of people around Drake... and to her surprise, a tendril of warmth swarmed in her chest as she watched the scene of a bunch of close-knit friends supporting each other through this time, cheering in joy for everyone.
"The night's still young, and after a victory like that, we have a great deal to celebrate." Liam's voice boomed, his eyes catching Kina's again in an affectionate look. "If you'll all follow me back to the ballroom... the Gala awaits!"
Watching as everyone filtered back in, Kina frowned when she saw the mysterious woman from back in the ballroom approached Olivia. From the way she reacted, it was obvious the red-haired duchess was uncomfortable with the mysterious woman's presence - yet when Riley approached, Kina frowned at the way Olivia more or less darted away from her, seemingly too eager to get away from prying questions.
"Kina?" a gentle voice drew her attention to the approaching Liam, who came up to her. He lay a hand on the small of her back and followed her gaze to where Olivia had disappeared, and Riley now trailed sadly back into the ballroom. "What's the matter?"
She paused and shook her head. "No... no matter. Let's..." she looked up, and mustered up a smile."Let's go back in."
---
"Liam? Where are you bringing me exactly?"
Instead of being directed back into the courtyard, Kina found herself gently but firmly guided out a set of side windows into a courtyard, where the strains of music faded as they stepped out into the cooling night of the palace courtyard. Laughing, she lay an arm on Liam once they had got far enough from the crowd, to fix a questioning look on the male's face.
To his credit, the King was wearing a fairly sheepish, but mostly conniving look. Relenting, he stopped, but his hand remained resting on her waist as they faced each other. "There were too many people inside. I thought we could spend some time together... just you and me. Dancing by ourselves?" he showed what he meant by picking her hand up and twirling her a little.
Kina laughed as she spun back to face him again, a brow raised in a questioning manner. "You didn't think to ask first?"
"I thought you wouldn't say no," he replied, a flush coming to his cheeks.
Absolutely adorable, Kina found herself thinking. Smiling, she looked around the area, spying the concrete floors, marbled areas where carefully curated greenery grew, and the fountain right in the middle, taking it all in before turning back to him. "But you thought right." she laughed, taking a step closer to him. Bold for once, Kina lay a hand on his chest, and twined her fingers with his. "Now, I believe you promised me a dance?"
In return, he laughed and wrapped his arms around her waist, slowly drawing her to drift languidly around the area in a tune that only they could hear. "Are you enjoying yourself?" his soft murmur was done in a tender tone.
Kina nodded. "All the glamor, pomp... and duels. How could I not?"
He laughed, doing an elaborate twirl before pulling her even closer to him, that they now stood chest to chest. "I'm glad you're having fun. Madeleine-"
"I've got her covered, don't worry." Kina cut him off. The way her eyes now sparkled with a glimmer of confidence made Liam utterly proud of her. The small, pint-sized younger sister now seemed stronger, prouder of who she was... unable to resist himself, Liam leaned down, cupping her cheeks with his hands to press a kiss to her lips.
Caught thoroughly by surprise, Kina's gasp was swallowed when his lips moved over hers, and she felt his tongue draw a line across her lips, making a shiver pass down her spine as their steps paused. The sound of laughter drifted down from the ballroom windows into the courtyard, the running water from the fountain... there were all sounds that made themselves known only when the two pulled apart, breathes coming a little heavier than regular.
Her smile was a shy one that made Liam laugh as he pulled back, tucking her stray blonde tendrils behind her ear. Looking up to where the lights from the ballroom shone through, the King gave a light sigh that had Kina's eyes light up with a question he seemed to understand without her asking. "I... am just glad people are moving past that attack. That... they can have laughter and joy in the palace again."
His words made her heart constrict, and instinctively, Kina lay a hand on his arm, which he took with his own and laced their fingers together. "They have you, Liam."
He looked at her in surprise and gave a small, almost hollow-sounding laugh. "It's...I'm still coming to terms with the fact that I'm Cordonia's one and only king now."
Kina raised a brow, following as he led her by the hand to a stone bench in the corner of the courtyard. "I can't think of anyone else more suited for the job, Liam. You... You're the king Cordonia needs. Your passion and love for the country, your care, and compassion for your people... they are all that they need."
Finding himself caught quite off-guard by Kina's sudden, impassioned speech, he froze, and found himself chuckling, pulling her closer to him on the bench. "Maybe...maybe I can be the king Cordonia needs."
"I know you can." she reinforced with a steadfast determination shining in her eyes, not wavering in the slightest. "Besides, you have everyone to help you." she paused, hesitating. "And... you have me."
A heat flared in his chest. Right at that moment, where the night borrowed them a sense of being hidden, where the ballroom was just on the periphery of their knowledge, close enough to remind them of who they were, but far enough that they could ignore it, Liam saw Kina's shy smile, and this desire to know her more, have her by his side surged within him.
Pulling her closer, he caught her lips in a searing kiss that made her gasp again, before Kina all but melted into his arms. He dragged her into his lap, trailing kisses down her neck, and then up to her ear again. "Makeena of Fydelia... you fascinate me with every turn. You are strong in times you think you're not, and... I want you oh so much." he growled in her ear. His words made warmth rippled on the surface of Kina's surface. She curled her fingers into the lapels of his red costume, her whole body tensing.
But she knew what she wanted.
"I want you too." she murmured in return.
---
Her response was all Liam had needed. He had wasted no time in pressing a final kiss to her before the King swiftly brought her up a servant's staircase at the back of the palace. Bypassing all the guests, their journey to his chambers was punctuated by his occasional pressing her to the wall to steal a kiss or two. It felt too long before he could finally close the door behind him to his bedroom, and turned to see Kina standing somewhat awkwardly in the middle of his room.
He smiled, and Kina nervously played with her fingers when Liam began... well, the only word she could think of was that he prowled in her direction, almost predatory in his gaze. On his way, he managed to detach the cape his costume had come with, dropping it by the side before he collected Kina in his arms, pressing a fierce kiss that managed to draw a low moan from her.
A slave to the heat that curled with every touch Liam lavished on her, she instinctively curled her fingers into his buttoned top, feeling his hands steal down to her bottom where he cupped them through her dress and pressed her tightly against where she could feel the growing desire he held for her.
Without a word, Liam managed to back Kina up till her knees touched the edge of his bed. There, he pushed her down, crawling over her. "I'm afraid the thorough tour to my chambers will have to come later, sweetheart."
Kina chuckled, reaching up to lope her arms around his neck and pulling him towards her. "I'm content with familiarizing myself with the royal mattress now."
The low chuckle that rumbled through him was swallowed as they closed the distance between them again, lips fiercely meeting in wild abandon. "You're wearing entirely too many clothes," he growled, fingers going to tug at the clasps of the dress she wore.
She laughed, her own fingers working on his buttons at the same time. "I faintly remember you saying I looked beautiful in this dress, Your Highness."
"Well, I prefer you out of it now," he growled, managing to find the zipper. With a swift yank, the material fell loose around her chest, enough to let her unbound breasts spill out of the soft material. Liam wasted no time in claiming his prize, lips around one while the other received the attention of his fingers. Kina moaned softly when he swirled the pink nub between his thumb and forefinger, soft mewls that merely served to further fan Liam's flames of desire.
Only managing to undo the first two buttons, Liam's clothing was pulled out of Kina's reach as he pushed her dress further down, and his lips followed the trail until he got the silk material past his hips.
"No underwear, Lady Makeena?" a lusty undertone showed just how much the idea turned Liam on.
Kina bit her lip, a cheeky glimmer in her eyes. "The material was too thin. Wearing anything underneath would show the outline, which would mar the dress's beauty."
"I don't mind," he growled, pulling the rest of the dress off and falling over her again.
"Well, I mind the fact that you're still fully clothed."
"Your wish is my command, my lady." Liam playfully replied. With Kina's hands fumbling at the buttons of his pants, Liam got his shirt off just as she managed to unbutton it, and within seconds, their naked bodies entwined together on the bed as Liam returned to her, lips eagerly seeking hers. His fingers roamed the expanse of her body, running lightly down her body before he slipped them between her legs, and was rewarded with a light gasp when he found his prize.
"Oh sweetheart, you're always ready for me, are you not?"
"Mmm, don't let it get to your head, Liam." Kina managed to grit out through her moans as his fingers began to sift their way through her folds, stroking and caressing their way until they found the tight pink bundle of nerves. The moment he brushed one finger across it, her body tensed and she bit her lips to prevent herself from the loud moan that threatened to spill.
But Liam was having none of it. He was beginning to realize he liked watching Kina when she wasn't operating under the strict rules that her parents had brought her up to follow. That her unrestrained passion was a hell of a turn on, and he wanted to see that in her every time they were together.
Getting up from her arms, he gave a conniving smile when Kina flashed him a questioning look, but offered no explanation. Instead, the King knelt back on his heels, and before she could protest, had both her knees hooked over his shoulders. Pressing light kisses to her inner thigh, Kina shivered at the sensation.
"Liam, it's not-"
"I will pleasure you as I see fit, Kina." he murmured, disregarding her protests and planting his lips right at her lower lips. The moment his tongue flicked out to brush against the same nub his fingers had teased just moments before, Kina could not stop the loud shout that passed, her body arching against his mouth, pressing even more of her wet core against his mouth. Relishing in it, he dragged his tongue up and down, up and down again a few times, before ramping it up by delving his tongue right into the wet passage, grinning when Kina began writhing under him, panting moans uncontrollably spilling from her lips.
"Liam, Liam..." she moaned out as he continued diving his tongue in and out of her, her hips kept firmly in place by his hold. "Liam please, please..."
"Please what, sweetheart? You want more?" he murmured. Letting one of her thighs go, he proceeded to push two fingers in her passage while his tongue returned to the clit, simultaneously stimulating the nerves as he finger-fucked the woman that he was beginning to love.
"Yes, yes Liam... ahhh..." she moaned out, her hips bucking against his mouth the faster he got. She could feel the crest coming, arching over her, so close, so much closer-
Just before she felt her orgasm coming, a soft whimper escaped her when both the pressure on her clit and the fingers in her were retracted.
“Not yet, my heart.” Soothing out her protests by closing his lips on hers, Liam crawled over her form and shuddered when he nestled his burgeoning desire against her dripping core, groaning from the base of his throat as he moved against it, feeling her wetness coat his turgid manhood. Swallowing her moans in a kiss, he continued rubbing against it until finally, finally, the tip of his erection rested against her entrance.
In one surge forward, their breathy moans mingled together when he was finally resting in her heat, his body tensing at the pure desire coursing through his veins.
The pleasure of Kina's warmth was indescribable to Liam, but ever the gentleman, he pried his eyes open to peer down at his girl, tenderly pressing slow kisses to her forehead and her cheek. "How do you want it baby?" he murmured softly, languidly pulling out and pushing back in soft strokes. She clutched at him, legs twining around his waist, but no reply was offered.
He chuckled, burying himself right to the hilt, and staying there. Running his fingers through her blonde locks, Liam rained kisses all over her cheek, down the curve of her neck to her collarbone, where he lightly sucked at. "Do you want it hard, baby?" the soft murmur was accompanied with a sudden withdrawal and hard thrust that made Kina jerk, mewling in pleasure.
"An-anything, Liam. Just... ahhh..." Kina moaned when he gripped her ass and pulled her closer, circling his hips as he remained in her. "Just... ahh I want to come, please..."
"What was that, sweetheart?" he muttered with a dark chuckle.
"Make me come... please let me come." Kina's words were ripped from her throat, as he slipped his fingers in between their bodies to find the nub. In time with his strokes, he caressed her sensitive clit, building the soft moans with each thrust in her.
"God baby, you feel so good." Liam groaned, burying his face in between her neck as he fucked her and fingered her at the same time. Slowly at first, and then faster with each stroke. He enjoyed the soft pants that he drew out from her with his movements, the way she clung to him as if he was her only salvation. "So good baby girl... come for me, come baby."
As if his words were all that she needed, and Kina felt the building pressure within her release with a violent shiver as she came. His name was ripped from her lips, her toes curling at the pleasure of it. Throughout her orgasm, Liam continuously pumped in her even when Kina writhed from the over-stimulation.
Swiftly, he withdrew and flipped the small blonde on her stomach. In the same movement, he buried himself deep in again, pulling her hips so he could hold them as he slammed into her tight heat, his harsh breaths coming in time with the moans Kina now made. She still throbbed from her recent orgasm, but the way Liam never stood was now coaxing a second impending orgasm, and words that begged for his action dripped from her lips as she drove backward, pushing her ass against his thrusts in the same motion.
Too soon, Kina felt that familiar ache again building within her. She fell to her chest on the bed, a position which pushed her ass further towards Liam, moans tumbling one after the other out of her lips as she cried out. "Liam fuck, I'm gonna co- ahhh!"
Without letting her finish her sentence, Liam had reached down to press his finger against her still throbbing clit, and that pressure was enough to make her come undone again. Under him, she shook from the force of her climax, and the way she tightened around him pushed Liam over the edge, as he gave the last few frantic thrusts, and came messily within her, driving himself all the way to the hilt with a grip that was sure to leave a bruise on her hips come morning.
Ending up in each other's arms after coming down from the sex high, Liam collected Kina in his arms, tenderly caressing her hip while his other hand played with her blonde curls, a smile permanently etched on his lips.

A/N: That ending to TRR was perfect! And... ah, gives me so many ideas for the ending of Kina and Liam. <3
The whole way back, Kina couldn't help but keep an eye on Liam. Gone was the warm, laughing prince who had made slow, sweet love to her the night before. In place was a worried looking man who stood by the window as the rest of their friends sat silently in their carriage.
To make matters worse, because Kina did not want to push matters between them, she could not even go up to him to offer any words of comfort.
It was not until the gang had seen Constantine in the hospital, did Liam's shoulders relax when the previous King insisted on attending the Costume Gala. The whole time the monarchs and Liam conversed, Kina did her best to inch her way behind Drake, fully aware of Regina’s careful stare on her, especially after the events of the night before.
"Surprise! It's your favorite press secretary!" A sudden voice interrupted, as the door swung open.
"Justin! You're alive!" Riley exclaimed.
"From what I've seen in the news, you've been in good hands."
To Kina's surprise, the dashing bespectacled male she now knew to be her predecessor to Riley walked up to her, caught her fingers before she could protest, and pressed a chaste kiss to the back of her hand. She froze, her gaze instinctively darting to Liam's face. His features were chiseled hard, eyes zeroing in on the lips that lingered on the back of her hand.
Quickly, Kina retracted her hand and offered a small smile when Justin grinned at her. Almost immediately, a sharp voice cut through, breaking the male's eye contact with her to focus on the speaker.
"I heard you were injured in the attack. You're looking well, though." Liam asked in a congenial tone. Yet when Kina looked at him, she sensed a tightness in his voice as he spoke.
"Yeah, I took a nasty shot at the Homecoming Ball, but I'm not kicking the bucket just yet. If you can breathe, you can stand, and if you can stand, you can you can fight."
Kina blinked, slightly taken aback by how bright and preppy Justin was.
Watching as he continued speaking, the girl leaned towards Maxwell, whispering "Is he always this bright and early?"
Maxwell chuckled and nodded. "He did great as Riley's press secretary. Although, you're doing just as well."
As Justin and Constantine dissolved into conversation about being discharged, Kina's eyes were quick to spot Regina and Riley speaking with Liam, and the girl frowned when the conversation ended with a distressed looking Liam, as everyone else filed out. Unable to put herself away again, she lingered in the empty room as everyone left, reaching out to take Liam's hands."Is everything alright?"
"The doctor says he doesn't have much time left."
Her heart broke at the hollowed tone he used, and she tightened her hold, feeling helpless as he returned her grip with a tight one of his own. What could she do? It was not as if she could stop death as it knocked on Liam's father's door, as much as she wanted to.
"I-"
"I promise you - we'll find some time to tell them, alright? Just... not yet."
Kina scowled and used her free hand to swat at him. He yelped and rubbed at the upper arm with a perplexed look. "What was that for?"
"For being a git. Do you think I would force you to say anything you don't want to?"
Obviously realizing he had managed to irritate her, Liam's eyes widened, and he hurriedly yanked her closer, shaking his head. "I didn't mean it that way. I just feel bad because there are too many things, and that means we can't-"
"You have more important things, Liam. 'We' can wait." she murmured, using her fingers to push at his forehead with a soft laugh. "Now let's go. We need to get back to the capital in time for the ball."
---
Dressed in a simple black dress, Kina descended the main stairwell of the palace, clipboard in hand. Her mind raced with the many things she had to arrange in place during and after the costume ball for Riley and Maxwell, that she barely noticed and ran into a hard chest. With a small yelp, Kina stumbled backward, almost falling had a strong arm not quickly caught her by the waist.
Having squeezed her eyes closed to prepare for impact, she opened them, her mouth in a small 'O' when Liam's smiling face met her surprised gaze. He chuckled as he helped her up, and then frowned when his eyes took in the rest of her outfit.
"What?" Kina asked, unable to help the slightly defensive tone in her tone as she straightened her black, form-fitting dress. It fit her purpose - she had no wish to stand out.
But Liam obviously had issues with it.
For the first time, however, her eyes took in the regal, red outfit he wore, and she couldn't help the way her heart leaped into her throat. The stark difference in their rank slapped her in her face. Liam could almost see Kina clamming up in the way she straightened up, holding her clipboard all prim and proper like in front of her. He frowned, disliking all of her actions.
"What... are you wearing?"
"A... dress? It is a ball, as much as I'd love to go in my comfy linen pants, I think I may get fired." Kina laughed at her own joke, trying to diffuse the tension she obviously saw gathering in the King's face.
He sighed, raising a tired brow at her. Did she not see herself in any flattering light at all? She made him laugh. Her very presence shone a light in his life, made him forget just for a brief moment, the immense pressure he had on his shoulders now as the King. What did he have to do to make her see that? Looking down at his own outfit, it finally clicked in his mind, just why she had drawn back in her own shell. His gaze flickered back to her again, and it only took a split second for the dark-haired prince to decide.
Before Kina could protest, Liam had grabbed her wrist and all but dragged her to the royal boutique, where he deposited her right in the center before heading to rifle through the hangers. Kina stared at the sight of the regally dressed King rifling through the various outfits. "What are you-"
"Getting you an outfit befitting you, Lady Makeena of Fydelia." he muttered, a strain in his tone. Settling on a midnight blue dress which had a diamond-encrusted bodice, he pushed it in her direction, ignoring her spluttered words as he turned her and shoved her by her shoulders towards the changing room. "Either you change, or I'm stripping you right here, Kina. Your choice." he finally said with a tone of finality when she turned to walk out, only to have Liam blocking her way.
For a long moment, both of them stared at each other in silent mutiny.
And then Liam reached up to cup her cheek, thumb caressing her cheeks in a show of tenderness that immediately had Kina's heart fluttering. "You are worth every bit of attention anyone shows you. Myself included. You have a heart greater than anyone else I've seen... and you will walk into the Costume Ball on my arms tonight." he grinned a wolfish grin that, in any other circumstances, would likely have resulted in Kina jumping on him had they not been in a public area. "Because I'm likely snapping the neck of the next man who shows you attention."
---
"Where did the everyone else go to, you were saying?"
"Self-defense training."
"In their dresses?!" Kina squeaked in surprise. Liam turned to look at her, and couldn't help the soft chuckle at her large rounded eyes. She looked extra adorable when she allowed her actual emotions to show - and he wanted to always see her actual emotions and not the controlled facade she showed everyone else.
"Mara's logic stands." he shrugged, reaching out to push a tendril of her curled blonde hair, tucking it behind her ears. "You're more likely to be attacked in your ballgown then in proper attire - so she felt it was appropriate." Liam was finding it harder and harder to tear his eyes away from her, even as they now stood right at the entrance of the ballroom, ready to enter at the given notice. She was spectacularly dressed, and his eye for clothes for her proved itself. The extravagant dress Liam had picked out fell to her ankles accentuated her pale skin and blonde locks, the very ones which she had curled and haphazardly tucked into a simple coiffure on top of her head. The dress had a modest neckline, but a plunging back which showed off the curves that she had. The dress itself flowed like water around her legs and was paired off with a pair of glittering silver heels, lending Kina an illusion of height and elegance.
"And I do not need self-defense skills?"
A flare of protectiveness surged through Liam, and he tightened his arms around the hand she had threaded through his elbow. "No. Because you will not stray from my side tonight, Kina. I mean it." He couldn't bear to see a repeat of what had happened to Riley, happen to Kina. Not this small, petite younger sister to Madeleine that he has come to now fiercely appreciate.
Before she could respond, the voices of the rest of the nobles made both of them turn, and Kina's eyes widened when her eyes landed on their friends and their outfits. She found each of their outfits gorgeous, Hana's and Riley's especially outstanding, but... "Maxwell?!" she gasped with a hidden laugh.
Liam chuckled, nodding at their friends. "He insisted," he explained to Kina, as the rest of them approached.
"There you two are."
"We were... delayed by Kina's impeccable fashion sense. I have fixed it."
Drake wore a look that obviously said he did not believe them, but it was Hana and Riley whose sharp eyes saw the way Kina's eyes rested in the crook of Liam's arms and exchanged looks that hid their squeals of delight. Riley especially had been feeling bad ever since she rejected Liam for Maxwell. She knew Liam was a great person, a noble one who deserved someone who whole-heartedly loved him.
"Everyone's so pretty!" Hana exclaimed, drawing Riley back from her silent, solo celebration of the way Liam tenderly and thoughtlessly caressed Kina's hands that he held.
"Only a few others here break a seven on the costume scale." Olivia scathingly remarked.
"Riley!"
The call of the new duchess's name made the whole group turn, just in time to see the arrival of Kiara and Penelope, both decked in dresses that represented their house and colors. As everyone complemented each other on their choice of outfit, it was one voice that brought a chill to Kina when she heard it.
"What's this little gathering?"
Liam felt the way Kina froze, and while this was supposed to have been his ex-fiance, he couldn't help the mild irritation that leaped up when they all turned to face Madeleine's icy cold stare. In her dress of ivy leaves that represented her house and her perfectly curled blonde hair, it was obvious to see Kina was like her sister in color and skin. But to Liam, that was where the similarities ended.
Where Madeleine had been conniving, ambitious and cold, Kina was warm, friendly and with a heart that was eager to help others. The difference could not be starker, and Liam revealed in the fact that he had the right sister on his arm, even as Olivia dove right in to antagonize Madeleine.
"Must you really barge into everyone's business?"
"I am checking upon my hapless sister." she breezed past Olivia and then appeared to freeze in shock when she saw just whose arm Kina was on. Madeleine frowned, eyes flickering to Liam's hard gaze, and then back to her sister. Appearing to decide to go ahead anyway, she bowed to Liam, and immediately wore a smile Kina recognized to be that of sly plans - she had seen Madeleine practice that smiles to perfection all her life after all. "I do hope my sister has not embarrassed herself. I see she's at least managed to pick a respectable dress for her charge. Lucky guess?"
“Know your place, Lady Makeena. I’m sure Lord Godfrey has taught you since birth.”
In that one instant, as Madeleine's reprimanding voice brought to mind the disapproving look of the Queen Mother, it was as if walls were closing in on Kina, the drowning in the sea -
Liam tightened his grip on her arm, bringing her back to the brink of reality, surprising her enough to make Kina turn her gaze to him. She saw his hardened features, the steeled gaze he focused on Madeleine who in turn, looked very shocked to be on the receiving end of such a fierce look from her usually gentle ex-fiance.
And she was reminded of everything he's told her. That he would fight for her, that he would choose her, would risk for her.
All prepared to launch into a defense for Kina, Liam was held back when a soft hand and a touch he knew was laid on his chest. Turning down to the owner of the delicate fingers, the King's eyes widened when he saw the determined look on Kina, who faced her sister with a fire he's seeing for the first time.
"I have had the same classes as you had Madeleine, and I single-handedly run Fydelia while everyone is away. I believe I can handle Duchess Riley's reputation just as well as you can."
While soft, there was a quiet determination in Kina's voice that made Liam swell with pride as he watched the subtle shift in her posture. The straightening of her spine, tightening of her hold. "The duchy of Valtoria is represented by the colors red and white - military strength and sincerity. The dove signifies a symbol of peace, but Lady Riley has chosen the Phoenix - just what Cordonia needs, a symbol of beauty reborn from ashes."
The more she spoke, the more the pride grew in his chest as she steadfastly stared at her sister, who seemed surprised at the change that had come over Kina. For once, Madeleine appeared to be at a loss for words. The rest of their group stared in surprise, but Liam practically radiated pride as Kina stepped back, just as the doors opened.
"It's time!" Maxwell's excited exclamation broke the stunned silence.
Olivia's subtle quip to Maxwell was left unheard, as the King squeeze Kina's hands to bring her attention to him. There in his gaze, her breath caught when she saw how his eyes shone for her - with what emotion, Kina was afraid to put a finger on, but it definitely made her heart tighten. "Come on, my lady.
Arm in arm, both of them headed to the front of the line, right in front of the closed ballroom doors where one could hear muffled strains of music playing from the other side.
Looking down at her, his look melted to one of tender affection when he saw her suddenly become a nervous wreck again. Walking in on his arm - it was practically a public declaration. What would his parents think? Regina would probably rip her a new one.
"Are you ready?"
Kina nervously gripped at the material of her dress, biting her lip. Was she? Well, it was either do or never.
Turning to him, she smiled, calling on the faux courage to bolster her till she could make it. "The real question is... whether Cordonia is ready for me."
---
The walk-in had been... well, nerve wrecking would be saying the least of it. Being announced on the tail of the King was an experience Kina would akin to nothing before, especially when her appearance was met with whispers mixed amongst the fanfare and applause. Throughout the whole time, she kept a firm grip on Liam's arm, and to his credit, he never let her go, always next to her to keep a conversation or steer her in the right direction. Other then that one time where he had to address the crowd upon Constantine's entrance, Liam had never once left her side.
"Your hard work has paid off." Liam murmured, watching the way people spoke to each other, the soft lull of conversation on the background of the string musicians.
Kina raised a brow, her hands nursing her glass of punch. "My hard work? You mean yours and Riley's," she replied with a laugh.
Liam laughed, and affectionately rubbed her back. He ached to press a kiss to her skin, but he knew better than to draw attention to her now. Even with Andy dogging her every step as her new security detail, he was taking no chances. "We've come a long way. You played a big part in it." he paused, letting his gaze linger on Kina for a period of time till she flushed.
"What?"
"I'm proud of you. You did well, standing up against Madeleine."
His words made her smile turn to one that was more abashed then anything. Just then, Constantine waved across the room at Liam. He frowned, hand still lingering on her waist, but Kina nudged him. "Go. I still have a job to do tonight." she reminded him, a laugh glittering in her eyes.
Looking down at her with obvious worry in his eyes, Liam sighed and looked up to wave Andy over. "Watch over her." he murmured, giving her one last look before he drifted away to where Constantine stood. Her eyes followed his movements as if she couldn't bear to be away from him.
"You aim too high, little sister."
Madeleine's sharp tone caused Kina to look sharp, and her eyes narrowed at the condescending look Madeleine wore. "He is King. I was trained to be the Cordonian Queen since I was a baby."
Kina paused. And then smiled. "But being a Queen requires more than just emulating previous monarchs," Kina said with a straightening of her spine, and a confident smile on her lips. Parroting Liam's words to her, she continued, "It is having the heart to forgive, and wanting to bring others to the top. Have you ever wanted someone else to be on top other than yourself, Madeleine?"
Without waiting for her sister's response, Kina pivoted on her heels and turned to where Hana and Riley were waving her over, content to leave Madeleine to seethe.

Help comes in a different form… and one that absolutely distracts Liam in ways he never expected.
A/N: Ahhh back on the LiNa bandwagon! Yes I shamelessly made their own couple name. xD
As the rest of the gang had headed for the festival, Kina had cried a headache and returned to her quarters for the remainder of the day.
But the truth? She couldn't take it.
The whole time at the art gallery, it was obvious the vast difference in the her station and that of Liam Rys. The way he deftly handled conversation, mingled with who needed to be addressed, all while ensuring she was well taken care of, constantly checking on her, always on her side. It was... altogether too much. How could she hope to even come near, or measure up to the King that she knew Liam would be?
For anyone to be his Queen, that woman would have to be one of great calibre and even greater strength. Something Kina wasn't sure she had.So she had escaped, something she always did when the walls closed in around her. Escaped to the sanctity that was her room, where she quickly peeled of the teal lace dress that was beginning to feel suffocating, kicked off the clunky strapped heels, and soaked herself in a warm bath of lavender scented oil, followed by a good book curled up in her terry cloth bathrobe, refusing to even think for a second on the could-bes that would come along if she even entertained the idea of Liam Rys.
She was no idiot.
There was a reason why he had asked her as his date to the art gallery... but she was smart enough to know when to back off.
As the day melded into night, her blonde hair which had previously been beautifully coiffed and combed, was now a mess on her head as she nursed her third and by-now diluted cup of chamomile tea, on the final chapter of her book.
Lost to the world, the knock on her door caught her by surprise.Jumping out of her bed, the moment she opened the door, Kina immediately regretted not looking through the peephole to see who it was.
In his suit he had wore for the gallery, the only difference was an unbuttoned top button, as Liam stood there, a sheepish expression on his face. In his hands, he held a bag from which Kina caught whiffs of different types of food, but her eyes were too shocked by Liam to even glance down at the bag. Blinking, words failed her, and it was Liam who broke the silence by speaking first.
"I thought... you could use some dinner. And... the festival had pretty good food. I didn't want you to miss out on it."
It was hard for her heart not to melt at the endearing, uncertain tone that Liam's word took on.
From wanting to slam the door in his face out of sheer embarrassment, Kina almost deflated in front of his eyes, as she finally looked at the bag of food, and then took a deep breathe and stepped back to allow him entrance. "You're supposed to be in bed." she automatically admonished, as she closed the door with a click, and tightened the bathrobe around her. She wore her red shorts and white tank top inside... but really, it didn't matter what she wore. Liam's sheer presence was enough to make her self-conscious, no matter what she wore. "I should... but I missed your presence at the festival. Drake was actually enjoying the food, for once."
As she stood there watching him bustle over opening up the containers and arranging them on the small table available in her room, all her resolution and fight that Kina had came up to her room with, to resist this silly attraction to the new King of Cordonia, flew out the window.
"Liam... why?" She had not expected to ask that question at all. Not tonight, not ever. Kina being Kina, the girl who had been downtrodden her whole life by her family and outshone by her elder sister, had never been someone who stood out, or knew how to. But her heart raced in her chest each time Liam singled her out for attention and more then that, she found herself increasingly eager to know his schedule, to see if he was okay, to ensure that no harm came to him.
He paused in his actions, and looked up, the jovial smile that he wore melting to a more serious one as he straightened up.
"Why what, Kina?" he clarified, trained well enough to know not to dive deep into a situation without knowing the full details."Why.. why all of this. Why me?"
Watching her desperate, confused look, Liam's heart went out to her, and at the same time filled with anger at the way she had been brought by her family and the way Madeleine's treatment of her younger sister had resulted in this insecure, quiet version of Kina. Having seen her laugh, watched her free spirit surface the rare few times he was with her alone, Liam was beginning to realize that Kina was a rare gem in the court of Cordonia, someone who still retained the innocence and eager outlook in life. Someone Liam was beginning to realize, he wanted to know more of.
So watching her clutch at her terry cloth robe as if that flimsy material was to protect her from any harsh words he was about to fling at her, Liam wanted nothing more then to hold her and protect her. But knowing just how skittish Kina could be when frightened, as she's wont to do the few times the social events did not agree with her, instead the King took a deep breathe, and walked around the chairs to stop in front of her. Gingerly, he took her hands, folding them in his grip and giving her a light squeeze before he spoke.
"Because you are kind, and you see the good in others in the darkest of times. You're giving and forgiving, and.... you are you." his words were said in earnest, the tone of which brought blood rushing to her cheeks. Finding herself unable to bring her eyes to meet his, Kina let her gaze remain on their joined hands as she did her best to control her heart rate and breathing. But Liam had other ideas.
Placing a finger under her chin, he gently applied pressure so he tilted her gaze up, and then once she looked at him, offered her a small, comforting smile. "You need to believe in yourself, Kina."
"But Riley..."
"Riley was an exciting prospect. A girl from New York, she represented a freedom I had always wanted, the type that was stripped from me when my brother abdicated." he paused, and then leaned in closer. "But she is happy with Maxwell. And I am happy for her. She is a great friend. She had been a great risk. But you? You are an even greater one. I will not lie; Queen Regina would be a difficult mountain to cross, and on top of it all, your sister would not be happy. Regina is still attempting to push me into accepting Madeleine as a wife, especially now that I am King with no prospective Queen.”
Releasing one of her hands, he reached up to cup her cheek, thumbs caressing her skin. "But for you I will take the risk... will you?"
By then, Kina's heart raced, and she half suspected it had now taken up residence in her throat from the way her voice now failed her. Frozen in spot both by his words, and his proximity to her, Kina was finding it difficult to breathe as he finished speaking. Was she willing? This was not just some noble man or merchant, this was the King of Cordonia. Madeleine would throw a fit for sure - her agreeing to it would mean that she now derailed all of her elder sister's plans, and his warning about his stepmother only made Kina further cautious.
Yet a voice reminded her that she's spent her whole life thinking of others... was it that wrong to think of herself, for once?
"Kina..."His soft murmur brought her attention back to him. Uncertainty raged in her eyes, the kind that made Liam's heart clenched as he watched the internal war raging behind her black gaze. What would he do if she said no? Could he allow her to return to that shell she hid it? God knows what would happen when Godfrey arranged for her marriage. For one, the very thought of her hand promised to another was enough to make Liam see red. For another, he doubted any other nobleman in Cordonia would appreciate the witty banter she had, the kind hearted nature she possessed, the soft laughter that made her eyes dance when she found something funny.
Unable to hear a no from her mouth, Liam did the only thing he could think of.Closing the distance between them, he pressed her lips to hers, relishing the feel of finally claiming the one who had invaded his thoughts over the past few weeks they had spent on the Unity Tour. She froze at first, but the King relaxed when he felt Kina melt in his arms, giving in to his kiss. Wrapping an arm around her waist, he pulled her closer to him, using his tongue to trace along her lips until she finally relented and allowed him entrance.
Darting in, his tongue found hers, and proceeded to do a flirtatious tango until they finally broke apart, breathe heavy between them. He pressed his forehead against hers, his grip still tight around her waist, with the other cupping her cheek. She had closed her eyes as they had kissed. Now, she slowly opened them, and Liam chuckled when he saw the hazy look in them.
“Will you?”
She was silent. And then... “Yes.”
That was all the answer Liam needed.
Her single syllable released all the anxious knots that had begun to gather in the pit of his stomach, and with the release of those, comes the rush of adrenaline that started giving him the heady rush of need. Hauling her small body towards him again, his actions loosened her hold on the terry cloth robe she had grasped in front of her, as he bent down to meet his lips with hers again.
And as if her admittance had released the composure Kina tried to keep around Liam, she pressed her whole body against his as she wrapped her arms around his neck, meeting kiss for kiss. Her tongue battled for dominance with his, their wet kiss fanning the flames between them. He groaned when her fingers around hold in the strands of hair at the base of his neck, pushing the robe off her shoulders. A low growl rumbled when they pulled apart and he spied the white tank top she wore, the material almost translucent due to its thin manner. Her shorts had rode up, and now sat high on her waist, revealing half her bottom, and making Liam realize she wore nothing underneath her clothes.
His eyes heated, and Kina gulped when she met the lustful gaze of Liam with her own, the first time she was met with them. Something stirred at the pit of her stomach, a warm tendril that uncurled and shot warmth to that area between her legs. She whimpered when his hands drifted downwards, ghosting on her pert bottom.
“Kina...” Liam breathed out, leaning in closer to press a kiss on her cheek and then drifting downwards to ghost his lips across her neck, making Kina shiver. “I’ll stop if you want me to.”
Did she want him to? Propriety and societal rules dictated she did that. She had no place in sleeping with the king of her country. She was supposed to be the press secretary to the Duchess of Valtoria for crying out loud!
“Yes.” she replied in an equally breathless tone. Tonight, Makeena of Fydelia was going to do what she wanted, for once. “Take me, Liam.”
That was all the permission he needed. The previously light touch on her bottom now turned possessive, and Liam splayed his fingers out to squeeze her ass, pushing her so she now was pressed against his whole body. Her arms wound around his neck as his lips found hers, pressing kisses all along the column of her neck until he reached her ears. There, his teeth found her skin, and he slowly nibbled as one hand slipped under her thin shirt. Kina sighed when his hands found her naked breast. Liam relished how well they fit in his hand, his eyes darkening with lust when she heard her moan as his thumb caressed her nipple, feeling them pebbling under his ministration.
By then Kina had turned restless in his arms, her hips instinctively grinding against his, pushing him against the wall. The King smirked, amused at how the quiet little lady he had fallen for seemed to be hiding a pretty wonton attitude. Squeezing her breasts one more time, Liam slipped his hand out, and swiftly pulled the shirt over her head, grinning when he saw Kina flush at being naked.
“You look beautiful.” he murmured softly, bending his head low to take a nipple in his lips. Lavishing his tongue around it, Kina arched her back as tendrils of pleasure shot through her. She could feel the hardness of his erection straining his pants, and her fingers eagerly worked on the belt of his pants, fumbling with it until she finally managed to unclasp the buckle. There, with Liam’s help, they made quick work of his dress pants, pushing his shirt off as Liam simultaneously pressed her till her knees bumped the side of the bed, and the two of them fell in a tangle of limbs and kisses on to the plush bedsheets.
Breathless and laughing, Kina managed to roll so she now straddle Liam, topless with only her red shorts on. He looked at her, and she marvelled at how the King could look so utterly adorable when he had such an eager, dark look in his eyes. Unable to resist, the girl nestled his hard and dripping manhood right in the folds of her damp core, the material of her shorts darkening from the wetness, the same spot which she now used to nestle his erection.
“Kina...” Liam’s tone held a warning, but the girl wore a coquettish look as she braced herself on his bare chest, and rolled her hips.
He groaned at the feeling. Hands flew to her hips, gripping her as Kina began to draw circles on his cock. Unable to stop himself, Liam grinded into her movements, until he finally could take no more. Wrapping an around her waist, that was the only warning Kina got before she found her whole world spinning when Liam flipped her, and the next thing she knew, she was on her back with the King looming dangerously over her, his eyes dark with lust and a hint of revenge.
“Two can play at that game.” he murmured, grinning. Slipping off her shorts, fingers stole to her folds, and Kina shuddered when he found the sensitive nub and began circling the bundle of nerves, making her squirm. Grinning, Liam brought his lips to her clit, and with the first flick, Kina had to stifle scream. Her fists curled into the sheets as her hips bucked, almost slamming into him if he had not kept her firmly down with his hands on her hips. Enjoying how she squirmed and moaned, Liam flicked his tongue over and over again, slipping in and out of her wet passage.
When he finally stopped, Kina was breathless, incapable of fighting when Liam crawled back up over her again, pressing a kiss against her lips. She could taste herself on his tongue, and that in itself was oddly erotic.
“You’re so wet for me, Kina. How long have you been waiting for me?” Liam murmured, slipping one finger into her folds, even as he rested his hard cock on her clit and began rubbing it.
She whimpered, leg closing in around his thighs, eagerly pressing against the delicious pressure that his fingers and his manhood was now providing. She wanted it so badly, the kind of pleasure that one could feel only with a cock filling them, the kind that Kina has not had in years. She was not chaste by any means, but that didn’t mean she fell into bed with just any Tom, Dick or Harry.
Mewling and clawing at him, Kina arched into him in an effort to gain more friction, but was sorely disappointed when Liam withdrew his finger, and braced himself with one arm on each side of her head, proceeding to slowly rub her wet core back and forth with his cock nestled right there , but not entering her yet.
“How much do you want me, Kina? Tell me.” he murmured, littering kisses all over her face, and then lavishing her nipples with more attention.
“I want you, Liam. Please.” she pleaded, head thrown back in the pleasure that Liam provided her. Good, but just not enough. “Please Liam, I need more.”
“Do you know how long I’ve spent thinking what I would do to you once I got you, Kina?” Liam murmured against her ear, letting the head of his manhood tease her entrance. Kina mewled in disappointment when he failed to push in.
“H-how long?” a shaky question came.
“So long, Kina. So long. And I’m going to slowly show you all the ways... I’m going to slowly make love to you, until you want no one else.”
With that, Liam finally conceded and slid his length in, a low guttural groan mixing with Kina’s keen of pleasure as she was finally filled with his erection, the feeling bringing her the kind of pleasure no amount of masturbation could solve. Sheathed fully in her heat, Liam shivered. Kina clung to him, her legs twined behind his back, her arms clinging to his chest.
Withdrawing halfway, she let out a loud moan as he thrusted back in. Kina relished the feeling of being stretched, being filled by him. The heat that curled in her stomach began to uncoil with each thrust, her moans mingling with his grunts as they began to form a rhythm. “Kina you’re... ah, you feel so good baby. So tight and... ah, hot for me.”
One hand slipped down to her ass, squeezing it as he steadily increased his rhythm. Pounding into her, the hand slipped to the front, finding the space between them to began rubbing at her clit. A cry slipped out of Kina as he rubbed her sensitive bundle of nerves.
“Liam... ohhh...” she moaned out his name, meeting each thrust with a roll of her hips, desperate for the release that now hovered so close in her reach.
“Fuck.” Liam breathed. “Cum for me, baby. Cause I don’t think I can-”
As if seeing the forever composed and poised King lose his composure was her undoing, Kina arched her back, shivering as her pussy convulsed around his hard on, liquid seeping out of her folds from the force of her climax, her legs tightening around him as her hips gyrated against his, drawing out the force of it.
Grunting, his hands fell from her clit. Bracing himself on the bed, Liam’s last few thrusts were erratic and forceful, pounding into her until guttural cry was ripped from his throat as he came in her, his cum spurting to fill her insides. With the last few thrusts to ride out his climax, Liam collapsed on her chest, both of them spent as they breathed heavily. Kina had begun drawing lazy patterns on his back, when he finally pushed himself off her, and gave a lazy smile, caressing her cheeks with his thumb.
“Is it bad that I don’t even care that I came in you?”
That split second had Kina’s eyes widening, and almost immediately a thousand expletives blossomed in her mind. But as if he could read her mind, Liam silenced her with a kiss, and chuckled as he pulled out of her to roll to a side. She shuddered at the sensation of him slipping out, his cum dripping out of her as he spoke. “Don’t worry. We’ll go get you some pills before we leave for the capital tomorrow.”
With a soft murmur, he pulled her into his embrace, and yanked at the sheets to cover their naked bodies. “Go to sleep. I’ll slip out myself.”
In a way that makes Kina feel like the most pampered girl on earth, he tucks her in to his side, and the next thing she knew, she had drifted off to sleep
---
Kina had woke to an empty bed the next day, and while a part of her was disappointed that Liam could not stay, she knew of the scandal it would cause when his relationship to Riley had only been called off not two months ago.
Quickly gathering her stuff and packing, the blonde made her way down the hallway, and when Liam looked up from the dining table, Kina couldn’t help the inevitable flush that stained her cheeks. His eyes had heated when he saw her descent, and he had pushed his chair back. Liam did not intend on keeping their relationship a secrets.
But life had other plans.
Just as he was about to reach out and take her hand, the doors burst open, and a harried looking Bastien looked in, eyes finding its target the moment it landed on Liam.’
“Your Majesty, its your father.”
Every sense in Liam went on high alert. “Is he okay?”
“The doctor’s have stabilized him... but he’s still in the hospital.”
My OTP Liam x Freya have been married for so long (rather, I’ve written a lot about them since joining the fandom in January 2018). This is a Masterlist of everything Liam x Freya.

Summary: Zyglavis had always been a fair, just god of the scales. He followed rules to a fault, and was spectacular at his job as the Minister of Punishments. Zyglavis was extremely dissatisfied when the King ruled in favor of the relationship between Leon, Minister of Wishes, with the human girl, even if she had been a former goddess.
Yet as he watched them together everyday, something tugs at him.
A/N: I know it says 8/8, but I have one last epilogue planned...which is likely gonna be NSFW. xD
---
For a god who supposedly kept his emotions and feelings in check, it was as if someone had unlocked a dam that flooded him with everything he had kept locked up over the past century or so. As he briskly walked up the stairwell towards his room on the third floor of the god's mansion, with Ichthys and Scorpio following behind, Zyglavis couldn't help the way he tightly gripped the unresponsive, small body of the reborn goddess of death.
She looked different, but nothing would make him forget her eyes, the shape of her stars, and the way she behaved.
Unlike Thalassa's porcelain skin, long dark hair and lithe, tall body of a perfect goddess, Sugawara Riyo was smaller in stature. She had sunkissed skin, and her dark hair was now cropped. Instead of being of the same height as they used to, Riyo stood barely to his shoulders now. But what Zyglavis picked up on most of all now was her shallow breathing, and how the color seemed to be fading from her skin.
He kicked his door open, laying her figure on the bed before backing off. "Ichthys, see to her." his voice was tight, and if his department didn't understand him, they would've thought Zyglavis was being insulting in telling Ichthys what to do. But they see the hidden panic in their superior's face, and knew that his curt manner was purely due to worry. Who she was, they had no clue, but they knew that they had to help the girl now on Zyglavis's bed.
The cropped haired god knelt by the bed, picking up Riyo's unresponsive hand and let his aura emanate from his palm into her cold fingers. And as the Minister watched, he could see the warming of Riyo's skin, her blood quickening, and the next thing he knew, he saw her eyes under her eyelids shifting before a soft groan was heard.
He all but shoved Ichthys out of the way, grabbing her fingers as they twitched, in a grip so tight, Riyo would likely have complained had she been able to feel anything.
"How are you?"
Before she had a chance to respond however, a ringing started in his head, a sound that apparently the other gods could hear as well, as they perked up, and then a voice summoned Zyglavis, that made the others shoot pointed looks at the Minister.
"If you want to, I can-" Scorpio started, but Zyglavis held up a palm. Scorpio had always been a favorite of the King, a fact that no one denied since the King personally ordained Scorpio with a godhood. But Zyglavis didn't want to deny the inevitable, and he knew they would have to go anyway.
Instead, he shook his head, and turned to Riyo, who had moved to push herself into a seated position. "You up for a little trip, sweetheart?"
Riyo blinked, appearing confused for a while before understanding dawned upon her. "Now?" she asked, in surprise.
"He's calling." Zyglavis responded.
The girl frowned for the briefest of moments, but as if the world suddenly made sense to her, she took a deep breathe and nodded, allowing Zyglavis to hold her other hand and pull her towards him, before he used his powers to teleport them above.
---
It was an odd sensation, to feel familiar yet alien in a place that had once been her home, in a life before her own. When the lights shimmered back into place and Riyo blinked to adjust her eyes to the golden splendour of the throne room, whilst her mind tried to come to terms with centuries worth of memories rushing back at her.
While she couldn't recall everything just yet, she knew of her past as the Goddess of Death, Thalassa. She could feel the touch of Zyglavis upon her skin, reminding her of the many times they had spent together. But at the same time, she remembered the weariness of bearing death as her title.
"Thalassa. It has been awhile."
The voice was familiar, kind yet firm. As Zyglavis helped her to her feet, Riyo turned and smiled when she saw the familiar face of the King of the Heavens. Many know him to be just and kind, but others also know him as a trickster who only entertained himself. But Riyo understood him, to a certain extent. He had to ensure the balance of Earth and the Heavens were kept, and in doing so, the job can get quite prolonged and boring, which was why he often indulged in his pranks and entertainments.
"Your Majesty, I... It really has been awhile." She wanted to thank him for granting her wish, but thought better of it when she felt Zyglavis's touch fall away from her.
"Zyglavis, I assume you have what you went down for."
"Yes, your Majesty."
Feeling him move next to her, Riyo watched as Zyglavis approached the throne, and eventually dropped what she recognized as her own glass pendant into the King's outstretched arms. Within the glass confines, a dark energy swirled angrily, to which the King peered as if he was amused, before proceeding to drop it into a jar by his throne. "That should be enough to keep him away for a long time... until something else crops up. Now..." he turned his attention to Riyo, a small smile. "Do you want to remember all of this, Thalassa?"
"I..." Riyo paused, and turned to look at Zyglavis. Her chest ached when she saw him. She missed him dearly, but yet at the same time she did not want to return to the heavens and give him even more reason to be distracted. He appeared to be trying his best not to look at her, and she honestly thought she had done the best decision by leaving. But even after centuries, he appeared to still be trying to hide the hurt as he fought to not glance at her.
What was she to do, when he still felt pain after so long?
The silence stretched, until the King spoke up again. "I'll allow you a few days for your decision then, my dear. The heavens has missed you afterall. Go, I'll see you in a few days."
With a wave of his hands the heavy golden doors to the throne room opened, a signal to leave that they both took, exiting quietly. After the excitement and adrenaline that had just occured however, the silence once they both entered the empty hallway and the doors closed behind them was taunt, only their slow footsteps echoing until Riyo broke it by speaking up.
"I... I'm very proud of you, Zyglavis. You look amazing as the Minister. How... How have you been?"
He was silent, until Riyo almost thought he wasn't about to respond, when he suddenly spoke up. "The love of my life left me willingly. How do you think I've been?"
With his tone so broken and pained, Riyo's chest ached all over again as she froze in her steps and turned to look at Zyglavis's tall form frozen just a step or two in front of her. Her fingers wanted to reach out to him, to assure him that it'll be alright, that even when she had gotten her memories as a goddess wiped to be reborn as a human, she still felt that pull to him when she first met him. The return of her memories as Thalassa now explained the innate pull she felt to him when he had returned to her life. But how could she when she had chosen to leave? Riyo knew he had every right to be angry at her.
"I don't regret my decision, Zyglavis." she finally spoke up in a tight, strained voice that worked hard to fight the tears. "You were a newly appointed Minister, with so many things in your future. I was the goddess of Death, a slowly defunct goddess. The King needed to seal the Dark King away, and the Goddess of Fate already gave her half of the power. I... It would save the heavens, and it would give you the chance to focus, Zyglavis." Riyo paused, taking a deep breathe after her tirade before continuing.
"So no, I don't regret it. But I am sorry if you're still angry. Just... I never forgot you, even if I was supposed to." I love you, always. Riyo fell silent, unable to gauge what he felt, for Zyglavis never once turned to face her throughout her speech. Fearing what he would say, she decided to quickly end this once and for all.
"I'll... I'll go back to the King. Tell him I'll return to my life as a human, without my memories. Then we can... we can go back to what this was like before I met you again."
Turning on her heel, Riyo started walking back. She bit her lips, her emotions in turmoil. She couldn't deny that she still loved him, but what could she do if he kept that anger within him? She was at fault entirely, that she admitted.
Just as she lay a hand on the handle of the doors to the throne room however, a force almost made her fall over had a pair of arms not come around her waist to squeeze her tightly. Riyo would've turned around to retaliate had she not recognize the heat that enclosed her, the fingers she's entwined her own with many times, the scent of her beloved Zyglavis suddenly surrounding her.
"I'm mad at you. But I'll be angrier at myself if I let you go again." he murmured, his breathe tickling her neck as he nuzzled it. "And you'll spend the rest of your life making what you did up to me. Understood?"
Relief blossomed in her chest, so palpable that tears came to her eyes. Riyo let her hands drop from the handles to cover Zyglavis's fingers with her own, squeezing them as she nodded. "Understood." she murmured in response, chuckling as she turned in his arms and proceeded to bury her head in his chest. While she technically had just recalled who he was, it was as if she had spent the past century missing him, craving his touch, wanting his heat surrounding her. Feeling his arms squeeze her tightly to him was one of the greatest feelings she had ever felt.
"But..."
"Hmm?" he murmured, when she leaned back to look up at him. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the gentle look in her usually stoic and firm Zyglavis's eyes, he ran a hand through her loose dark hair, awaiting her query.
"I'm a human, technically now, Zyg. What will-"
"If Leon can get permission to date the human Haruka Kotami, I will get permission to date you, Riyo. At the cost of my li-"
Before he could finish the sentence, Riyo had reached up on her toes to close her hands over her mouth, muffling the end of her words, and making Zyglavis widen his eyes in surprise.
"Shush. No talk about your life ending." she muttered with a scowl. To her surprise, Zyglavis chuckled as he pulled her hands away, and made her heart skip a beat when he pressed a kiss to both her palms.
"If you say so. Now c'mon, lets go see that trickster King. I have a very specific request to ask of him."

---
The ringing in her ears made her wince, as consciousness slowly filtered back into her mind. Her memory was fuzzy around the corners, unable to remember much as she stirred, wincing when a soreness assaulted her muscles, as if she had been roughly handled. Her eyelids felt heavy as she struggled to push them open, but even when she had opened, the dim lighting of wherever she was made the difference between opening and closing her eyelids very little, if any at all.
"Sugawara-san?" a voice called for her, that was familiar yet foreign.
"Haruka Kotomi-san? Is that you?" she clarified, looking for the source of the voice. Sure enough, as she pushed herself up and winced once more, before squinting, she saw the caramel haired girl already sitting up, one hand to her head.
Her companion looked around her surroundings, before cringing. "This is bad. Leon isn't going to be happy at all." she paused, and then turned to Riyo. "Do you have any idea where we are?"
Riyo shook her head, and then immediately regretted the action as it brought a thud to her head. Despite her seeming lack of knowledge about the place however, something niggled in the back of her mind that she's heard of this place before. And a name jumped out at her, more then anything else.
"Ah, I see you've awoken." a cold voice echoed.
Riyo turned, and the blood drained from her veins. She shouldn't know him, yet somehow she did. The Dark King.
"Who are you?" Kotomi asked in a hesitant voice.
The dark haired male laughed callously, shaking his head. Behind him, his two lackeys shadowed him, their eyes each focused on one girl. "Do you not remember me? I feel sad. We used to be such good friends."
"No, we were not." Riyo retorted firmly.
Surprise colored the dark King's eyes, as he frowned. "Oh, you remember?"
"Not much. But I would never be friends with someone like you."
He raised a brow almost as if in wry amusement, and then shook his head. "Tsk tsk tsk, still as brash and loud-mouthed as ever, I see Thalassa."
Thalassa? Why was the name so familiar?
"But no matter. I have little need for you save for the stars in your eyes anyway." he continued.
Next to her, Riyo heard Kotomi gasp, and she turned to the brunette. "Do you know what he means?"
Kotomi turned to Riyo, uncertainty in her eyes. "I.... yes, I do. But do you.... have stars in your eyes too?"
Riyo blinked. Stars? She's loved stars for the longest time, almost as long as she's been alive... but in her eyes? What were they talking about?
"Leon's always said that I am a reincarnated goddess. But they've never mentioned another one, and fallen gods and goddesses don't retain their stars, so-"
"Goddess of Fate and Death, you both gave up your lives to seal me in, keep me away from corrupting humanity. But what good did it do? Humankind continued to flourish in greed and hatred, power-hungry and willing to sacrifice one another for their own greed." a sneer appeared across the dark King's face, one that made Riyo's skin tingle, as she and Kotomi subconsciously crept closer to each other. He however, simply walked closer, until he was close enough to crouch in front of them.
Riyo winced and cringed, but she couldn't go far enough to avoid the scrawny fingers of the Dark King which came forward to grab her chin. Unable to help the whimper of fear that escaped her, she leaned as far back as she could go.
"Give up, Goddess of Death. Just give me your power. It's time for me to set humankind free, let their greed prosper... let Earth be under my rule."
Unable to go any further back, Riyo instinctively squeezed her eyes shut to block out the horrifying image of the Dark King leaning in closer. Just as she thought there was nothing else she could do however, suddenly behind the lids of her closed eyes, a bright light shone, and the pressure around her chin disappeared.
When she finally opened her eyes, a long haired, black and gold robe, gold belt and a circlet around his head. It took a squint, before Riyo's eyes widened. "Zyglavis?" she asked, in surprised, but the god's attention was not even on her, even as he framed her body with his protectively.
"Lay a finger on her, and I will prolong your death until you beg me for it, Dark King." his voice was menacing, with his palms opened and facing the Dark King, who now lay sprawled on the ground, his two underlings by his side.
Quickly, Riyo turned her head to check if Kotomi was alright, but she seemed fine. Riyo's eyes immediately saw a brunette long haired male with a golden belt holding up what seemed to be a skirt. Golden tattoos were all over the rest of his bare body. Even in the face of danger, Riyo couldn't help but marvel at the handsomeness of the male who now held Kotomi with a fierce protectiveness in his arms, almost shielding her from sight.
Despite so however, she still found herself drawn to the deathly silence of Zyglavis in front of her, a glowing white aura around him. "Wha-What is this?"
"Do you not remember, my love?" his soft voice addressed her, as he turned a fraction sideways to look at her in the eye. "Do you not remember anything?"
His gentle voice made Riyo frown, but it wasn't till when Zyglavis reached out to cup her cheek with his own hand, that memories struck her. Of the walks in the garden, how Zyglavis would gently tend to her when she was tired after a long day of dealing with snuffing out lives. How they often had long conversations in their room. Despite the secrecy of their relationship, Thalassa loved Zyglavis to bits, and would've done anything to help him achieve his excellence.
Even if it meant her own death.
Abruptly coming back to reality, she didn't even realize her eyes now brimmed with tears, until one escaped down her cheek, and Zyglavis raised his brows when he finally saw the recognition flickering in Riyo's eyes. "Thalassa?"
"The name is Riyo now. But yes, Zyg, I've mis-" Before she could finish however, the cackle brought all of their attention turning towards the Dark King, who was now standing with the help of his underlings, glaring at them.
"Enough chit-chat, their death would mean my resurrection. Crow, Servillah!" the Dark King yelled in a deranged manner.
His underlings lunged at us, but Leon easily deflected Crow with a bright shot of light, swerving to grab Kotomi out of the way.
Zyglavis however, was at a much closer proximity and would've gotten hit had Riyo not thrown herself, practically at the long haired god. In a split second, she had used her back as a shield, only to jerk when Crow's staff hit her back. The girl would've crumpled to the ground in the pure pain, had Zyglavis not wrapped an arm around her waist to stop her. When he pulled back to check on her, Riyo whimpered as she curled inward in her futile attempt to escape the pain of a deadly hit, eyes squeezed shut.
And he saw red.
"I told you, do not. Hurt. Her."
Every word reverberated with anger, as Zyglavis collected the shivering body of a Riyo in pain, his aura growing brighter, more powerful. In a corner, one would hear Kotomi whisper to Leon, but even the lion could not answer his girlfriend on who the female was, to have cause such a huge reaction from the usual stoic, quiet Minister of Punishments.
"With the power as the ruler of Libra," Zyglavis extends his palm that was already engulfed in the silvery light, growing brighter with his every word. "and in the name of the Heavenly King," he snapped his fingers, and a dark teardrop pendant attached on a rope necklace appeared in the palm of his hands, swirling with a grayish dark matter inside, "You will return your soul to this glass, and forever remain."
As if an invisible hand grabbed at him, the Dark King yelled in a twisted pain as he crumpled inward, and then fell to his knees. His two underlings rushed towards him, but were stopped when Leon used a golden glowing lasso towards both, lashing them together and vanquishing them quickly. As the rest of them watched, the Dark King slowly dissipated into purple wisps which were quickly sucked in to the glass, until none remain as Zyglavis corked the bottle.
But he did not waste anytime celebrating, and instead worriedly turned back to Riyo, who still lay motionless in his arms. As he nudged her, she stirred, and then her eyes hazily opened to half-mast. When she recognized his face, she smiled, and wearily reached up to graze the back of her fingers against his cheek. He held them there, as she spoke.
"Zyg, I'm... sorry." Her voice was weak, a fact that made Zyglavis race with panic.
"Leon, get back and get Icthys, quick."
And for once, much to Kotomi's surprise, Leon did not argue but did as he was told, grabbing her hands to teleport them out of there.
Once he had left, Zyglavis turned to Riyo again, slipping the glass pendant around her neck, and then hitching her up so he could carry her in his arms. "I'll get you back to the mansion. Icthys will know what to do. C'mon, love. Lets go."
"I... really didn't want to leave you, Zyg. But you... you had such bright potential. And I was... just holding you back." she continued.
Zyglavis's panic escalated as her voice grew weaker, and he shook his head, shushing her. "Stop talking, hush. We'll talk after Icthys sees to you."
As he got ready to teleport, he felt the graze of her fingers against his cheek again, and the very faint whisper of her voice as they were whisked away by his powers to the mansion.

Kina was heading down the stairs the next morning, dressed for the gallery opening in her emerald green culotte’s and blue form fitting blouse. Her black platforms landed with a click on the final steps of the mansion, when Hana popped out into the hallway, her eyes lighting up when she saw her.
“Come over Kina.”
The young Fydelian noble raised her brow when she caught the note of necessity in Hana’s voice.
Following her, Kina slipped in and quickly noted the worried looks of her friends as they surrounded a pale looking Francesco and a harried looking Hakim.
“Riley said there was an emergency. What happened Francesco?” Liam asked.
“The gallery...” Francesco managed between catching his breathe from his sprint. “The gallery has been flooded! And it’s no accident.”
Gasps of aghast surprise came from around the group, shock suffusing them. Kina herself gaped, her brain grinding to a halt. They’ve all seen how hard Kiara and her family has worked for this gallery, and if it’s flooded... can the show go on?
“You think it was sabotage? But why would someone want to do that?” Hakim asked, horror obvious in his voice.
“Wasn’t Bastien investigating the ‘Sons of Earth’ group?” Kina asked.
“He thought they might’ve connected to that video on Five Kingdoms Day... but there were no leads.” Liam explained.
“Plus, don’t they want more outreach from Cordonia? If anything, they should support these events.” Riley continued with a perplexed look on her face.
“If not them, then who?” Hakim said, his face still distraught.
“The Liberation Core? Maybe this event was too much of a rallying point.” Liam mused.
“That’s all the motivation they need to ruin the party.” Drake snarled, his usual bad mood surfacing.
“I’ll have the King’s Guard secure the area at once.”
“In the meantime... the festival must be cancelled. The damage is extensive and impossible to repair in time.”
The mood was palpably sad at Francesco’s report, especially when Hakim stated how the sabotage would make the country look. Kina bit her lip as she watched Hakim pacing across the rug. What could they do? Already Liam was swamped with the news of his father returning due to failing health. When she saw his pinched, worried look, her mind was racing to find a solution.
“What if we don’t cancel?” she piped up
“Perhaps I have yet to convey the full extent of the flooding....” Francesco’s skeptical retort made her scowl. But when Kina’s eyes drifted to the hopeful faces of her friends, she barrelled on.
“No, listen. We can ... it can be part of the installation!”
“Oh!” Riley jumped in, and Kina grinned. She knew the feisty American would catch on. “Like the something representing the rising tide of Cordonia’s future?”
“Despite waves, we sail on to greater tomorrows!” Kina continued, and the two dissolved into eager giggles, to which Liam grinned.
“That’s exactly the kind of message Cordonia needs to hear right now.”
“Oooh! I can spread the word on social media. Immersive, interactive new interaction, blah-blah one time only!” Maxwell jumped in. Riley nodded eagerly, her eyes encouraging to her fiance.
“The more exclusive it sounds the better.”
Watching as everyone quickly fell into roles to make this last minute heist a success, a sense of satisfaction swelled in her chest, the likes of which Kina had rarely, if ever felt before due to the stark coldness between whom she called her family members. Biting her lips as she watched everyone mete out plans between them, she took a few steps back, about to back away, when a hand caught her arms, and she blinked in surprise at Liam’s curious eyes.
“Where do you think you’re going?” he murmured, just as Hakim expressed his disbelief at the amount of effort everyone was putting in. Leaving Riley to expertly handle this, Kina instead, shrugged, when she felt Liam’s hand drop to close his fingers gently around her wrist.
“Back? You guys seem to have everything under control.” she responded with an uncertain smile.
“Then you better have another think coming.” Liam replied smoothly, grinning when he let his hands slip even lower, to clasp hers and give it a light squeeze. “Because you’re coming as my date.”

For the first time since joining the tour, Kina was nervously rifling through the clothes Riley peered at herself in the dress Kina had found for her in one of the boutique’s in the city. The color blocked dress ensured that Riley would blend right in with the artists, and presented a fine facade to the fine artists that the duchess was attempting to convince to attend her wedding.
But Kina was beginning to suspect she used up all of her artistic ability on that dress. As she rifled through the remaining dresses in the wardrobe, her heart sank lower and lower, she didn’t even notice the approach of Riley and Maxwell behind her.
Raising a brow, the playful younger sibling of the Beaumont house nudged his fiance. “What’s the matter with her? Should we get the doctor? Or Sir Toffee? Surely Sir Toffee’s fluff can cure anything.”
Riley rolled her eyes, smothering her amused smile at her future-husband’s banter, before approaching Kina gently.
“Kina? Do.... you need help? What’s the matter?”
Kina hesitated. How much should she tell? Technically, Riley had been one of Liam’s suitors before. Oh, she knew how completely in love Riley was with Maxwell now, but... what was one supposed to do in situations like this?
“I... Liam asked me to be his date to the exhibition.” she finally blurted out, unable to come up with a convincing lie in the short period of time. “And I can’t seem to find a dress proper enough. It’s just too... I mean, I’ve never wanted to mix with people of ... like them!” she finished, dryly laughing. The irony of the situation was amazing, to Kina anyway. She was born into the Fydelian nobility, yet Kina had never felt like she belonged. She knew she had a thing for Liam, but he was the King, if she already didn’t feel like she belonged in the class for nobility, who was she to even wish she could fit in with royalty?
Watching her downcasted face, Riley bit her lip, knowing somewhat what she felt like. Afterall, she was just a waitress in New York before Maxwell sponsored her social season, and she subsequently was granted a duchy. It’s not like Riley was entirely certain of her position yet, but she had the confidence of a sassy American to see her through, quite unlike the upbringing Kina has had to go through.
Looking up to meet Maxwell’s worried face, Riley waved at him to go on ahead, and waited till Maxwell closed the door behind him, before the New Yorker tilted Kina’s face up so their eyes met.
“We’ll find a dress together, okay? I’ll put in a call to Hana.”
“But she’s busy getting those boots for-”
“She’ll know what to do. Hana’s the most resourceful girl you’ll have ever met.”

Conversing with nobility was a task Liam was well used to. It was a lesson given to him since he was a child, as part of being the prince, even if he had been second in line then. When his brother abdicated, Liam’s lessons was only ramped up in intensity, but he had been a natural, given his great love for Cordonia and the wish to do everything good by her.
But today, he couldn’t help but feel distracted.
As more and more people filled in, their reactions mixed but mostly positive with their spin on the flood in the exhibition, Liam found his eyes drifting to the entrance, eagerly awaiting his date’s arrival. He didn’t know what had possessed him to boldly ask her earlier, but he never regretted a second of it. The young sister to Madeleine of Fydelia was an anomaly that Liam found himself attracted to as the days gone by. While he still nursed a hangover from Riley's rejection, the more time he spent with the quiet but capable Makeena of Fydelia, the more he found his eyes zeroing in on her instead of his former crush and love.
When the doors opened to reval Riley walking in with Hana and Maxwell, his eyes automatically landed on the new duchess and her blocked-out dress of varying colors. Riley turned heads as always, and as the duchess of Valtoria who had a huge responsibility on her shoulders in the tumultuous times that Cordonia faced now, she was rightly dressed.
But as she entered and approached Liam with a smile on her face, on the arms of Maxwell... the new King first realized that his heart no longer ached at seeing the sweet smiles his former love exchanged with her new fiance.
And then she stepped aside and Liam's breathe caught. Unlike Riley, Kina's dress was an understatement. As the press secretary for the duchess, it would not do well for Kina to outshine Riley in her dressage. But Hana had managed to pull it off beautifully. Small and petite in size, her heigh has been elevated by at least seven inches in the chunky black, strapped heels that she wore. The height made her legs look longer then usual, especially when the dress she wore ended just where it was decent, giving the impression that her legs went on forever.
The teal lace dress was body hugging, the neckline just low enough to show collarbones, and the sleeves ending just at above the elbows. Blonde hair was combed out and left loose around her shoulders. Paired off with a silver clutch, the only thing that gave away her position was the black wireless earpiece she wore - but even that enticed Liam. Everything about her screamed proper, but it simply made the King want to chomp at the reins to peel it off her.
Somehow managing to keep the decent smile on his face when all he wanted to do was to reach out to Kina and see what she looked like under the body-hugging teal number, Liam offered his arm to Kina, who flushed as she daintily placed her fingers on his, as if uncertain how one was to go about this. "You look beautiful." he murmured, completely ignoring the looks Riley and his friends shot him, and zeroing his focus on Kina.
She bit her lip, an action that Liam cursed internally at, and decided then and there to look away. He was a royal figure, but he was also a man. There was only so much he could take.
"Ready to say a few words?" he addressed Riley, who quickly hid a laugh, and nodded.
