KITTEN FOREVER - "HELL HOLE"
(Kitten Forever)
Kitten Forever.
Finally an all woman band. They kept switching positions which was rad, and the only instruments were the drums and a bass. I was instantly in love. One of my favorite performances of the weekend. They came out into the crowd after their set and I could have gotten a pic with them but then I got scared and ran away.

Photo from last night at the Triple Rock, our last show in 2016! This year has been truly wild; we turned 10, headlined the First Avenue main room, toured both coasts (and lots in between), and put out our third full-length album 7 Hearts on Atlas Chair. In 2017 we’re working on new songs and you know, stocking our underground bunkers. Stay safe, love yr friends, resist! 💜Laura Corrie & Liz 📷: @jahnapeloquin
A note from KF
The past couple weeks have been incredibly difficult. We've been taking some time as a band to process the results of the most recent election and we haven't spoken on it yet as we try and find ways to take direct action and think about our role- as artists, feminists, and humans - in resisting the hate and fear that has taken over so many of our lives. We want to state plainly and hopefully obviously that we do not support Donald Trump and all the things he represents: sexism, racism, homophobia, Islamophobia, transphobia, ableism, nationalism, and greed.
This Friday we will be making all our music pay what you want on Bandcamp until inauguration day and we will be donating the proceeds to Reclaim!, who helps to increase access to mental health support for Minnesotan queer and trans youth (see more about this program here - http://reclaim.care/ ).
On Saturday, 11/26 we are playing a show at the Eagles Club in Minneapolis with Mannequin Pussy, and all the proceeds will be donated to Standing Rock and the brave people there fighting to protect not just water, but the dignity and voice of native people in this country.
We encourage all our friends, family, and fans to find ways every day in which you can work to combat the darkness we all feel in constructive, direct, inclusive, and empowering ways. Use your voice, use your platform; use your privilege to give voice and platform to those that so often aren't afforded those things. Find commonality and give care wherever possible. Fight back, bite back, <3 KF
We're leaving for tour with Royal Brat this week!!
Featured Event: Kitten Forever’s 10 Year Birthday Party
Kitten Forever is a Minneapolis-based drums and bass trio. Corrie Harrigan, Laura Larson, and Liz Elton trade off duties on each instrument, giving equal time on drums, bass, and vocals to everyone. This democratic approach to performing and song writing gives the band a unified front, deconstructing traditional stage hierarchy, as well as a diverse set of perspectives, with unique sounds and styles for each performer. Their fuzzed out, caustic, party punk is inspired by equal parts friendship and feminism, using a stripped down aesthetic to showcase big emotions.
This Saturday, July 23, they celebrate their 10th anniversary of making music in Minneapolis with Condominium, Candace, Royal Brat, and Tony Peachka.

First Avenue: As self-proclaimed “summer witches” what would your familiars take the form of? Kitten Forever: A confetti cannon that spews a feminist agenda.
First Avenue: As big Kanye fans, what is your stance on his new music video “Famous”? Kitten Forever (Corrie): As the big Kanye fan of the group I have to take this opportunity to issue a heartfelt apology to both my band mates for getting roped into my fandom constantly. Kanye is obviously an enigmatic pop culture figure who is both problematic and boundary pushing and artistically genius on many levels. My feelings about “Famous” are probably too vast and multifaceted to for into such a small space and I’ll okay leave it at that!
First Avenue: What steps should the Minneapolis music scene make to be more inclusive? Kitten Forever: We think one of the best step a we could be taking to make the scene more inclusive is to stop referring to diverse bills as “inclusive” as if it’s it out the ordinary and expect them to be the norm. Our scene is diverse a lot of people simply don’t take the time or effort to seek it out or book bills that represent that. However that’s changing a lot even if the process is slow. We are just not interested anymore in going to see a bill of four bands with four white dudes playing guitar rock. You better be doing something exceptionally ground breaking at this point to hold my attention. We’ve seen that for so long now that it’s like, ok what’s next ?
First Avenue: When you’re on tour, what are the car rules for music? Kitten Forever: No rules in the Kitten Forever van. We listen to everything from Miley to Mitski to Bob Dylan to Bikini Kill. We’ve recently started listening to a lot of podcasts which really helps to pass the time. There are usually around 4 iPods floating around and we recently started theming the iPods from “pop” to “hip hop” to “punk” etc. which has been awesome. The year 1989 came out be bought that in a Target in New Jersey and listened to that basically the rest of tour on constant repeat.

KHSU Left of the Dial
“Minneapolis-based trio Kitten Forever stopped to play in Arcata this Monday. The band describe themselves as," fuzzed out, caustic, party punk ... inspired by equal parts friendship and feminism." Left of the Dial spoke with Corrie Harrigan, Laura Larson, and Liz Elton from their tour van during last Friday's show. “

Kitten Forever “7 Hearts - Atlas Chair” CD Review
This is the album I’ve been waiting for! If you’re into DIY, 90′s riot-grrrl punk with serious attitude, this is a must!! Kitten Forever makes a raw statement with a collection of racing punk tunes challenging debilitating status quos; giving the finger to the patriarchy, gender roles, and identity politics. There is this “big sister” attitude; wild and hurt with a chin held high. throughout the album there is an interesting combination of decostructed drums, part distorted/part tight basslines, and lots of loud tough lyrics that occasionally transition into talking parts that remind me of Sonic Youth’s “Kool Thing”. Would honestly recommend every single track on this album, so if you get the chance to listen to it in full, do it!

What are your thoughts on how pop and punk connect? LL: I feel like the kind of punk music that I’d always been attracted to was always super melodic. With Nirvana, they wrote harmonic melodies in their songs, and it was that kind of thing where it had an edge to it but it still had a good pop quality. I think a really good written song is going to be something that, if it’s punk, it’s got to have a part you can sing along with. That’s what I like in a punk song. I also think that people draw really extreme lines between those two genres because it either sounds like it can be on the radio or it doesn’t. The Ramones were using the same chords that you can still hear now in a Justin Bieber song. When you break down pop hits on the radio, it’s still the same major four chords over and over again; they’re just arranged slightly differently which was always happening in early punk music. feminist rockers kitten forever on the marriage of pop, punk, and politics

Feminist punk! Modern day riot grrrls! I love them!!! riyl: childbirth, jawbreaker reunion, bratmobile, bikini kill, etc etc etc
Its furious energy amplifies its serrated intelligence, and it sounds timeless and alive all at once. “Cannon” is the tough, vital and gloriously-tuneful new single from Minneapolis, Minnesota’s Kitten Forever, whose three members, Corrie Harrigan, Laura Larson and Liz Elton, each play drums, bass and guitar equally. Recorded at St. Paul’s A Harder Commune Studios, 7 Hearts is the title of their new album, out now on Atlas Chair. You can buy vinyl copies of it here and digital versions on Bandcamp, where you can find their previous releases as well.
