Hello! You can call me Arora. I'm a furry artist/writer/aspiring musician who has been all around the internet for a long while and am currently haunting my own grave here on Tumblr Dot Com.

I'm late twenties, a transfem, queer in multiple ways, and what some would say "slightly plural". If you see me using "we/our" pronouns, well, that's probably why!

Being an adult I may post mature stuff here, and make a lot of stuff that's at least slightly explicit in nature, so please keep that in mind if you decide to follow me or look through my blog. I don't tolerate bigotry or panopticon behavior, if I block you though, it might just be a preference thing - don't take it personally!

What radicalized us against the state of psychiatry and the abuse of people through institutionalization/medicalization is funnily enough going to college *for* psychology and wanting to become a counselor.

When you realize that structurally the field of psychology/psychiatry in a medical setting (and research too, really) is primarily used to ensure that there is a work force functional enough to continue providing to capital interests and to ostracize anyone who does not fit their definitions of "sane", it becomes pretty disheartening to the concept of even attempting to work within said system!

I don't think everything would be fixed if these material concerns were addressed, but frankly it's unreasonable to expect people to be completely sane or held together when the world is losing its mind for the benefit of a very isolated few.

We'd been steadfastly wary of this stuff for a long time especially with friends who had been forcefully institutionalized (and threatened with it ourselves), but the experiences we had studying only made it clearer the foundations are rotten.

When we talk about the autonomy of suicide, it's almost always discussed from the side of the right to die — which is definitely important and does need to be accepted by more of society. But there's also the side of the right to live. Until society stops punishing people for their existence and depriving them of what they need, the autonomy of suicide for everyone cannot be reached. Because when people are killing themselves because of changeable, societal structures, that is not a completely autonomous decision. It is one that has been forced upon them.

Suicidal people will always exist and people who will always be suicidal exist and that is not inherently an issue that needs to be solved. But it becomes an issue when people are forced into it. Currently, suicide prevention involves institutionalizing suicidal people, telling them that they must survive, by any means possible, but so many of them have been told the opposite for their entire lives, implicitly or otherwise. Suicide prevention should involve working to improve society, making it a livable and survivable place for all people. Only then will the autonomy of suicide be achieved. Otherwise, so much of it is social murder.

In short, "Don't kill yourself 🥺" isn't enough — solving the why behind it is.
