“No. Quinn, we’re not getting a dog.“
noratheshifterkitty:
“Yeah… My final answer is no. Chris is happy and our dynamics are back to the way it haven’t been in years. Bring a pet home will only mess with the flow of things and that’s not something I’m willing to sacrifice.“
“Pets are important for kids. It teaches them to create bonds at a young age and it’s shown that children with pets specifically learn compassion quickly and early.”
almost-dr-owayne:
He resisted the urge to make a oh sound when she clarified at it hadn’t been what he’d been thinking, “My little brother does. He adopted a stray that didn’t seem to mind being in a family of wolves. Why?”Â
Owayne cleared his throat, suddenly wishing he’d understood her original meaning and hadn’t had to ask, “Potentially,”Â
“We’re similar. I’m clingy and moody and once you stay, I won’t want you to leave. So be sure of it.”
“Are you saying you have a type?”
almost-dr-owayne:
Owayne raised an eyebrow, “When you say had?” he asked, wanting clarification before he answered her question.
“Have you owned a pet cat before?”
“Although now that you bring it up how have you had a cat in a different way?”
almost-dr-owayne:
He wasn’t sure if it was him or his wolf that bristled at the idea of anyone doing what Jade’s father had done. Nor was he sure if it was the thought of a man abandoning his child and their mother in general, or if it was more specifically the idea of them doing it to Quinn. With his gaze on the floor he stayed quite for a long while, his mind working through what she was telling him. Even so the implication that she was getting attached to him or that she thought she could be didn’t escape him. Looking up he met her gaze, “And what if I don’t want a get out of jail card?”
Quinn copied his silence and just watched him, letting him process whatever he needed to. She wasn’t sure what compelled her to say anything about it today though. When he finally spoke, the ocelot narrowed her eyes. “Have you ever had a cat before, Owayne?”
almost-dr-owayne:
He couldn’t help the sigh that escaped him as the relief that he hadn’t been getting close to someone who was already taken washed over him. “He sounds like a selfish bas…” he stopped himself short of what he was going to say, “I’m sorry he did that to you. You don’t deserve it,”
“He’s a complete selfish bastard.” She snorted and shook her head. “Chris is still hunting him down for child support. Out of principle more than anything else. He was always selfish, I was too before Jade.” She paused for a moment before continuing. “Thank you, but I was telling you so you know before anything gets too far. Not sure I can do another guy leaving when I’m already attached, here’s the get out of jail card.”
almost-dr-owayne:
He nodded, “And her father?”
“He walked out on me in September. We never meant to get pregnant, but children come along so rarely with cats, so we kept her. He decided 5 months later he wasn’t ready, just left a note and ran.”
almost-dr-owayne:
“And she’s your daughter,” he said slowly, taking in the information
“She is.” Quinn fidgeted with her clothing, waiting on his response.
“Her name is Jade.”
Second Breakfast @Hektor’s
almost-dr-owayne:
“What did you study?” he asked, genuinely curious to find out more about her. A silly smile spread across his face, as it did every time someone asked him where he was from, “I’m from a little town called LlanfairÂpwllgwyngyllÂgogeryÂchwyrnÂdrobwllÂllanÂtysilioÂgogoÂgoch. I met Bri at a museum function in Egypt at a time I didn’t have a pack and well, the rest is history as they say,”
Owayne laughed, “I’m all wolf, honestly,”Â
“Political Science.” Quinn smiled at the town name, and shook her head. “I couldn’t imagine being without a pack, without that support system. Chris and his first mate, Tatiana, raised me and the only time I left long term was to go to school. But we’re all kind of homebodies.” Quinn paused after her mini-monologue, shocked at how much she was giving him so early on. Taking a sip of her coffee she decided to take the chance to put it back on him. “So what are you doing now that you’re here.”
“From a cat, that’s a compliment.”
Second Breakfast @Hektor’s
almost-dr-owayne:
“Is that where you’re from?”
He chuckled, “If I wanted to do that I’d just do a good old stretch,” he said doing just that and letting his t-shirt rise up to flash a little of his muscled torso. Settling back into his seat he grinned at her
“No. I’m from here, but I went to college in Boston. What about you? You’re obviously not from here, so how’d you find your way over?”
Her eyes flicked to the skin while it was visible, letting them travel up back to his face slowly. “You know, you act more like a cat than a wolf.”Â
Second Breakfast @Hektor’s
almost-dr-owayne:
“Have you ever seen one? Besides, I do a lot of exercise so I think I’ll burn it off just fine,” he said with another smile as he stuck his folk into another pancakeÂ
"In Boston I did.”Â
“Was that just a way for you to subtly brag that you work out?”
Second Breakfast @Hektor’s
almost-dr-owayne:
“Only if you were a mundane,” he grinned
“You don’t think shifters get fat?”
Second Breakfast @Hektor’s
“Hey, those hobbits knew what they were talking about. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so why not have it twice?”
“You’d get fat?” Quinn sipped on her coffee with a raised eyebrow as he devoured his food.
almost-dr-owayne:
“Yup,” he nodded, “That smile just confirms it,”
“It’s good to see you again Quinn,”
“You too, O’Wayne.”
“How was your Christmas.”
almost-dr-owayne:
His smile grew, “I’m going to take that as a definite yes,” he declared,Â
“Are you now?” She let her face drop into a smile for a moment shrugging.Â
