I just watched Nimona - I should've done this so much sooner...

This year is my year of catching up with incredible media I just never looked into. I watched Arcane for the first time, Luca also, I started reading Dungeon Meshi, I listened to some of my parents' favorite music. And everything was so good. I keep pushing popular media away from me, because I love the small and weird bubble I'm in with semi-unknown music, books and series. It's stupid, really. I'm missing out on the greatest things...

Well however, I knew nothing about Nimona, except that the main character supposedly is genderqueer, which definitely peaqued my interest of course. I love queer media and I love unconventional gender representation. But this movie is SO MUCH MORE QUEER than I could've ever imagined.

Gay subplot for the main character, I repeat GAY KNIGHTS. Genderfluid-ish main character that is a living metaphor for the experience of being trans. Love being the key to a happy ending. The fact that there is a happy ending bro. A non-tragic queer movie... whaow

Incredible animation, disability rep in the main characters, different body types, women in position of power, a wide spectrum of ethnicities. I can only dream about ever seeing a movie this amazing ever again. I freaking LOVE woke media. I love seeing people being included. I love seeing people be proud of things I'm insecure of.

Media like this heals kids. This is what kids should grow up with, this movie shows how easy it is to be inclusive and make people feel seen. Why would anybody NOT want this?

This is easily one of my top 3 movies ever. I think I might go as far as saying this is probably my current favorite film. I genuinely think I've never seen anything as good as Nimona.

As executives and corporations realise that internet ideas are multitudes better than Hollywood’s shitty remakes and uninspired nothingburgers, I’m worrying it’s gonna end up like the pineapple head meme. We can’t let them slopify so many cool ideas. Don’t get me wrong, this era of film will provide some GENERATIONAL bangers, but 95% of the good stuff (or likely even higher amounts) will come from indie/social media creators. Please for the love of god we can’t let the suits ruin it by putting cash over creativity.
