Called a senate committee member's office. I was very nervous but it wasn't so bad!
Here's a few tips:
The office that I called allowed me to listen to my voicemail a couple times before sending it. I could even re-record my message a few times. Don't know how it is for other offices, but this one had that option.
It helps to have a script with all the info you need. So be specific about what bills you're calling about. Give the date of the markup. Etc.
Keep in mind what your senator stands for. Their political party, the reason they support/oppose age verification, etc. Lead with that.
If you have a big script and you're planning to talk to a person, keep a version that's super short, in case you need to do voicemail.
For the voicemail, time yourself rehearsing the script. Use a stopwatch to see if you can say your piece within 1 - 2 minutes
Personally, I feel so much stronger after that call and I feel proud of myself for taking that action. I hope this can be some encouragement to those who are nervous

Look, I don't know if its just me or does it feel like some posts are acting like the markup next week is taking place at the senate instead of the senate committee. Sure I understand that some are just panicking about it but this creates fear mongering and I think it will make people become misinformed about the situation at hand. So as a reminder, please do your research and be specific in your posts. Please say that its a markup in the Senate committee and avoid making post that feel like misinformation.

dude I hate how I have to be around ppl I hate sometimes. thereâs this one person in a server im in on discord and while they donât talk much in the server I get pissed off when I see (blocked message) bc itâs most likely them.
I got pissed off when I saw that they followed one of my blogs bc i didnt like them in the first place (they associate w some ppl i dont like. and the way they talk about trans women makes me so uncomfortable. it deadass comes off as chaser shit it feels like all they talk about in relation to these two characters being transfem in one of their auâs is in reference to their genitals. like I also have an au where the two characters are t4t yuri bc the way they go about it is just really odd omi. like not saying you canât explore explicit topics in ref to two characters that are adults and happen to be transfem, bc obvi u can. but thatâs usually all they tend to talk about so itâs weird. theyre also not transfem btw).
but for some reason i decided not to block them bc I didnt think Iâd have to deal w them. I was wrong. they joined that server im in but i didnt know it was them at first bc they have a different disc user but when I found out it was them I got pissed off but decided to just try to ignore them. I wish I wouldâve blocked them. But then they replied to some art I shared and they got excited bc it was yuri and I got pissed off when they said they recognized my style. but I played it cool and just pretended to be surprised.
then me and them got into a debate about something in relation to ableism and I felt like they were trying to make me feel like I was âtoo wokeâ or some shit. I tried being civil and I was and after the conversation they kept sending this fuckass cat emoji and that pissed me off. But i didnt say anything. then i actually got the courage to say what I wanted to but politely ofc w a essay I had written about the topic and they either ignored my message or did not see my message.
then after sometime I decided to block them bc of the fact they made me uncomfortable like I said amd I donât like their depiction of the ship in general. And to me it felt like they kept trying to be my friend which I found weird bc they post a lot of suggestive shit on their acc. and theyre also 10 years older then me. they know Iâm a teen. So I found it odd. Ik itâs fine to have inter-generational friendships but in this context it just felt weird.
But then in the servers vent chat they sent a message about how they âgot blocked simply for having a different opinionâ and I assumed that they were talking about me. I politely but also sternly told them that I knew they were talking about me and that i didnât block them simply bc of a different opinion. And that Iâve never liked them but didnât block them bc i didnt think Iâd ever have to deal w them. They then said that it wasnât about me and that they wouldnât vent about someone they know is in a server but Iâm not sure if I believe that.
Then recently, I was venting about how I saw a known groomer in the fandom in a server that belonged to my moot who is also a teen (thankfully I was able to sort things out and provide evidence! the groomer got banned and the owner stated that the groomer person had also sent them a message claiming that I had been ârude to themâ đ they always play the victim itâs embarrassing).
But then that person I donât like replied to my message saying âI know you donât like me but Iâm sorry you had to run into a known predatorâ or some shit. Are u fucking kidding me dude?! I fucking told u to leave me alone. yet you still try to talk to me?! Even acknowledging that i dont fucking like you?! oh they also said I could talk to them about it too ??? WTF?? Why the fuck would I talk to someone I donât fucking like when I have adults I can talk about this shit?! fuck off.

A controversial take but as a woman whoâs been wronged by men several times before, I genuinely find all those âmen badâ and âmen should dieâ posts in poor taste and an opposite of what feminism is.
I know we all say ânot all menââbecause itâs really is not all menâbut how would you feel if you saw a âwomen badâ or âwomen should dieâ post made by a man and then he said âwell itâs not All Women so if youâre not xyz then this post isnât about Youâ?
So I donât know. I think instead of a vague âmen badâ or âmen should dieâ post and âwell if youâre a good man then this post isnât about youâ we should call out specific harmful behaviors without grouping All Men together and expecting good men to 1.) know this post isnât about them 2.) not feel Bad about / unsafe for being a man whose only crime is being a man.
