I am so fucking tired of people sidelining black characters, taking away their interesting dynamics with white characters (only to subscribe to those same dynamics but supplanting them with their white counterparts instead). I'm tired of people not caring about them unless is to ship them with some bland white boy. To call their canon realtionships with white characters "weird", "baseless", or plain out ignoring them. Acting like black people are incapable of love, of innocence, of joy and whimsy. Acting like they aren't smart, and capable, and worthy (of their possition, love, recognition, power, whatever).

By the way it's like. Really fucked how society's thoughts on epilepsy is just "get over it." Seizures can cause permanent brain damage. Seizures can kill people. Seizures hurt like hell. Allow me to reiterate that seizures can kill people. And you're just gonna casually put flashing lights, a common trigger for seizures in your advertisement, in your animation meme, in your edit, on your billboards, without even thinking about putting a simple disclaimer? That's unbelievable. Your little anime edit could deadass cost a life and you're not gonna put a warning because it's "inconvenient" or "people like that shouldn't be on the internet" (ableist) (the problem exists outside the internet also). Or you'll give insufficient ones like putting it in the captions or only giving like one second before the flashing lights appear, meaning that the trigger's already in motion before anyone who needs the warning can read it and save themselves from literal physical danger.
We need to start commenting under other people's posts about how to properly warn for flashing lights and eyestrain. We need to be emailing and calling companies about their possibly triggering advertisements that could induce seizures. We need to stop tolerating ableism and start speaking up for the more vulnerable.
Also, stop putting epilepsy warnings. That's like saying "warning: schizophrenia" on a post including unreality or "warning: dyslexia" on a post with a typing quirk. First off, the disability mentioned isn't the only group of people that this could trigger. Second, it doesn't truly get the message across and instead makes it worse for those with the disability-- scrolling through the epilepsy tag on Tumblr should get you to view the content of other epileptic people, but no, you just get a bunch of flashing lights and eyestrain, even though you could instead tag for, oh I dunno, flashing lights and eyestrain.
Anyways this Disability Pride, and for every month that comes after, think about epileptic people and others who are triggered by flashing lights/eyestrain. Happy pride to those who experience seizures too frequently due to the unaccommodating and ableist societies we live in!

Just to try and help out and spread the word, there are two chrome extensions I've found that might be able to help.
Seizafe: This extension scans youtube videos and warns you if they contain things like flashing lights that could cause a seizure.
CogniShield: This extension (supposedly, it has like no reviews) dims the screen to a safe level if flashing lights are detected; it can also be used to limit volume. It might help.

I don't like characters who are bullies that the narrative frames as good and right to be doing that, because I spent my entire childhood being bullied at every school I went to, and by my brothers.
Narratives that uphold bullying as cute, harmless, or funny are just doing abuse apologism.
You bet your ass I'm going to criticize a narrative that frames bullying as funny or cute, and the characters that are doing that bullying.
Eugene, Kayleigh, and Meredith all decided to bully Sunny the second she got introduced, and the narrative expects me to think this is funny. It's not, because bullying isn't funny or a joke, it's abuse.
And I am going to criticize any story that tries to frame it otherwise.
And this isn't even getting into the cissexism in the reception of Sunny, either. It's very clear that the creators of this game, nor the in-universe characters, are actually as supportive of nonbinary other trans people like we're meant to assume.
And if we don't criticize this now, it will never improve.
everyone needs to hear about the situation in india right now. the youth of this nation are going through hell and back to protect the foundations that our country was built on in the first place, while the adults who are supposed to actually be in charge try to silence our voices.
NEET, which is an exam taken by millions of students per year and is the ONLY gateway for medical admissions across the country, had its papers leaked. so many took their lives because this exam meant everything for their future. and NTA, the agency who conducts this exam, was not held accountable.
there was national backlash. cockroach janta party (initially a satirical political party formed by abhijeet dipke in retaliation to the remarks of the chief justice of india calling the youth "cockroaches" and "parasites of society") started protests at jantar mantar, demanding the resignation of the union education minister, dharmendra pradhan. the movement also asked for ten million inr (~100,000 usd) in compensation for the families of students who died by suicide and wanted NTA be held accountable.
sonam wangchuk, a climate activist and education reformer, also went on a hunger strike at jantar mantar to protest against this corruption in india's higher education system. his fast began on june 28, demanding the resignation of the union education minister. his fast lasted for 20 days until delhi police FORCIBLY removed him and admitted him to safdarjung hospital on july 18.
because of this, cockroach janta party announced "chalo sansad," a march to the parliament beginning on june 20th, 9:00 am ist. but the police seems to be responding with water cannons, mobile jammers, and baton charge. all of this, because of a peaceful protest led by people no older than 30.
and yet there has been absolutely no indian media coverage about a movement that spans the entirety of this nation. so, please, if you see this, keep talking about us. we will not let those old bastards stoop any lower than they've already had. we will not let them ruin our country any further. we will not be silenced
Please look it up. Students have been beaten bloody. They’re using electrified batons. They’re using batons with nails hammered in. They’re dragging people off and locking them up for no reason. People are being beaten, assaulted, and even molested by the police.
The government is doing everything it can except for actually having an honest dialogue with the protestors.
It’s important to note that despite all the police brutality, despite how the government has had extra forces airlifted to Delhi to help quash the protest, this has deterred no one.
Not only is the protest in Delhi going strong, the government closed down every metro station in Central Delhi in an effort to stop them and it still hasn’t.
There’s protests in most major cities in India in solidarity. Palakkad, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kochi, and probably more besides. There has been a protest in the UK as well in solidarity.
People who aren’t at the protest are donating so much food that the organisers have had to ask them to stop doing so because there’s more than enough. In lieu of that people are donating money for medicine, lawyers, cleanup, and umbrellas.
Most crucially, hopes aren’t broken. Spirits aren’t broken. People with bruises and broken bones are still showing up. People are showing up cosplaying as freedom fighters and super heroes and a dinosaur. People are doxxing goons who show up trying to incite violence. People are making reels. People in Mumbai literally opened a moving police detainment van to allow arrested students to escape.

Because girls should have long hair or the "aesthetics" were off
I'm not a woman or female but I'm read as such and whenever I have a buzzcut, strangers I've barely spoken to just try to touch it. Touch my head. Just reach out and caress my head without asking. Because they "want to know what it feels like"
Women who don't perform femininity (correctly) get harassed and their bodily autonomy taken away. They get bullied and touched without consent. They get everything commented on (if you think "brave" is a compliment you've never had it used on you)
If you don't think that femininity is enforced, and often violently, you're either a moron or you have no good intentions

There are many fun reasons to have a character avoid using guns, but I think "this otherwise-awesome fighter is a really terrible shot" is an underappreciated one. Yes, they're available in my setting and would work against my enemies. No, I don't have a moral code against them or a power that makes them redundant. I just can't aim for shit!
In general IMO the more badass and hypercompetent a character is, the more they're enriched by having one skill they're just absolutely hopeless at. Terrible shot, terrible liar, terrible dancer, no poker face, no sense of direction, can't drive, can't swim, can't cook, can't read, always broke, always late, always falls for a certain trick...
let's talk words because I'm not really a big fan of the english translation of this week's chapter
"Stalwart" and "pure" are definitely... choices. Especially stalwart. That is not a common word people use day-to-day in English.
In Japanese, Rudo says 『堅実』 and 『高潔』. Let's break it down a bit.
堅実・けんじつ・kenjitsu is actually an adjective that means steady, sound, stable, safe, reliable. If I had to pick a word to translate it to, I would choose "trustworthy" as, in context, it would relate to the Hell Guard.
Stalwart on the other hand means, strong, stout, sturdy. All of those are physical words that relate nothing to the Japanese. If you break down the kanji, 堅・けん means strict, hard, solid, reliable and 実・じつ means reality, truth. So I find using "stalwart" a very odd choice.

As for 高潔・こうけつ・kouketsu, it's also an adjective that means noble, virtuous. If you break it down, 高・こう is tall, high, expensive and 潔・けつ is pure, clean. For this word, "pure" would be good but it sounds like a word followers of a religion would use and not a word that apostles would use for themselves. So in this instance, I would translate it to "righteous."

Also, side note, Rudo does say "deeds" however, I feel like "conduct" or "behavior" is implied and "deeds" can be taken out.

Again, just my opinion on what the translation should have been. The stalwart just really threw me off though so I had to get this off my chest.
Hey, fat people deserve to have fun and get their needs met even if they’re the least healthy mf you know.
