It's often the most male-catered to and even misogynistic media that feature some of the deepest and borderline homoerotic relationships between men. But that is to be expected. People think that patriarchy enabling homoaffectionate relationships between men is a bug, but it's actually a feature. True love can only come from a place of respect, and men often don't respect nor esteem women. They don't see women as capable of intellect, or strength, or imagination or even humanity. Those attributes are reserved to men. Which is why men's true love is often reserved for other men while women are just props to them. That's why it's easier for a lot of male writers to create stories about supposedly heterosexual male characters having the most world-shattering (accidentally romantic) bonds with other men, but not with women that they're canonically attracted to. It's because they can't fathom their male protagonist being so deeply affected by a woman's character, since women are to be lusted for and kept as props for their little domestic fantasies but never truly respected or admired as individuals. The ancient greeks were more honest about this stuff because they understood that patriarchy and male/male affection went hand in hand.

On the topic of my previous posts regarding fandoms at large having a trend of whitewashing the characters that are non white, there’s a common “rebuttal” that some people will have to justify / deflect the fact that erasure of representation is occurring :

“Oh but it’s my style! / oh that’s just the lighting!” And it drives me mad

“Lighting” doesn’t make characters suddenly lose any and all of their melanin. It doesn’t magically erase someone’s ethnic facial features (eye shape, eye color, nose shape, lips) or hair style/ hair texture.

If your art style can’t draw racial minorities and frequently erases their features and makes them indistinguishable from a white person then that’s a sign you gotta get out of your comfort zone and practice drawing more.

No one is saying that you need to be perfect or that you’re automatically a bad person for learning how to draw or being a beginner. But it’s 2026 and compared to before there is a vast amount of information, tutorials, videos, brushes and techniques to help with learning how to draw different people from all over the world. In real life there’s a vast amount of people who have different hair types, skintones, facial features, body types, cultural clothing and more that reflect the environment they live in. It’s doing a disservice to jut bury your head in the sand and continue to draw the same designs that center skinny, able bodied, pale and Eurocentric features as the focus. It’s limiting your growth as an artist.

There are plenty of stylized art/ pastel art/ art pieces that people have done with dramatic colors and lighting that can still clearly show a person of color. It costs zero dollars to learn and grow and not throw a shit fit whenever someone is trying to help you.

It's really kind of hard to have a good conversation with a person who just...never engages with anything intellectually stimulating...because, like, what are you even supposed to talk about?

I don't expect everyone to read as much as I do, but how is it I'm supposed to enjoy even a movie with you if you don't even want to talk about what we watched?

I have friends who enjoy stories of all different mediums, and after almost every movie I watch with them, I can get into an hours long conversation with them about the themes, symbolism, and implications of the framing of different characters and situations. I can talk to my boyfriend for hours about vampires and he doesn't like to read as much as I do, but he can keep up and contribute to a conversation about what vampires say about things like racism, sexuality, addiction, etc. I watched Superman (2025) last year with a friend and then got a smoothie and talked for hours about the different versions of Superman and what each says about the society of the time period in which they were written.

Like, how can I even enjoy things with a person who just consumes a story for what it is on the surface and refuses to dive underneath it? Because I'm fairly certain the conversation doesn't go far beyond, 'Oooh, vampires a creepy/sexy!' or 'That was cool when Superman punched people!'

"everyone should get more aromantic" can appeal to tumblr's sensibilities but I genuinely think everyone should also get more asexual. I don't mean everyone stop having sex, what I mean is

Sex is not essential. You can live without it. Full stop.

Not having sex isn't shameful or a sign of failure. It also doesn't make anyone boring.

You are not entitled to having sex with anybody and nobody is entitled to having sex with you.

Sex is not what makes someone an adult.

Nobody's worth is defined by how much sex they have or don't have.

Sex is not equally important to everyone.

You can have fulfilling and happy relationships without sex.

You should only have sex on your own terms, not because you feel like you owe it to someone, or because you feel like you'd be incomplete without it.

Know your boundaries around sex and be firm about them. Know how to respect other people's boundaries.

The previous point also applies when it comes to discussing sex. If someone doesn't wanna talk about it or hear about it you have to back down.

Anything can be sexual but not everything has to be sexual.

The older I've gotten the more I've realized just how weird it is that people are so fixated on other people's sex lives or lack thereof. And it's especially weird how young it starts for a lot of us. Like, Britney Spears was a minor when people started obsessing over whether or not she was a virgin. Russell Brand also bullied the Jonas Brothers for having "promise rings" to symbolize they were waiting until marriage (which, by the way, I also think is pretty creepy since that was probably their management that directed them to advertise that to the world, but it was really no one's business to be joking about minors who were not interested in sex).

Iran is slowly coming back online, but by "online," I mean they've moved from whitelisting some websites to blacklisting everything. I had no idea what these terms meant, but living in Iran forces you to know about technical network and connection stuff. Basically, instead of banning everything except for a few shitty malware apps posing as "social media platforms", they have now moved to filter out and ban the same usual things as before (like Telegram, Instagram, YouTube, everything). So what does that mean? It means more IPs will be available to bypass the ban, and VPNs will be more affordable. So more people can access the internet, STILL ILLEGALLY and THROUGH A PAYWALL.

It's currently close to 4 AM now that I'm posting this, and I've been crying non-stop since midnight because my friends came back online one by one through an unstable connection and said: "Hi, I'm alive." I had prepared myself for the funeral of so many of my friends. Some haven't come back online yet, and we've formed small "search and rescue" groups to find their contacts or families to check if they're okay.

What remains a fact amidst all of this is that nobody in the world ever gave a single fuck about us. I was one of the lucky ones to connect during the complete shutdown via some newly invented way we were too scared to even publish on GitHub for fear of getting arrested. In the time I was connected, I felt immense guilt for having access to the internet, and I begged you all on my socials to be the voice of the people who were about to get executed.

Not even once did I see someone talk about the internet blackout in Iran, and it enrages me.

We've been massacred, mass executed, and then silenced by getting our only way of communicating with the world shut off and the world treats it as some background noise, some irrelevant news that isn't even worth spending time hearing about.

So I'm asking you again, please, be the voice for the people in Iran. We are barely surviving.

i love when a character is very clearly going through their own shit badly and is able to be sympathised with yet they are also being awful to others and hurting people who don't deserve it, and the narrative is showing how they got here but not letting them off the hook for being cruel just because they are hurting.

I see a lot of folks defending their vitriolic repugnance towards toddlers with cries of "but my sensory needs!" as if children are not also in possession of sensory needs. As if you, an adult here on Tumblr.com, do not have the capability and resources to learn the skills or acquire aids for coping with competing access needs.
