Update a symlink

To update a symlink in place, without having to delete and recreate:

ln -sfn [source file] [target file]

What do the flags mean?

-s, --symbolic make symbolic links instead of hard links

-f, --force remove existing destination files

-n, --no-dereference treat destination that is a symlink to a directory as if it were a normal file

These flags allow for a symlink to a directory to be updated in place.

Please note that the above should be a double dash, not an emdash; can't figure out how to stop this autocompleting in Tumblr.

IE user unable to log in to site

It seems that a quirk of IE (or is it that IE is behaving correctly and the other browsers are ignoring) is that a TLD or subdomain with an underscore in it, will fail any kind of session storage on IE.

This of course means that users will be unable to log in to the site.

Simply remove the underscore from your subdomain (are underscores legal in TLDs?) and you're good to go.

Local development changes to settings.php

When syncing a DB from production to dev, there are some settings which I often end up turning off in the UI.

It's possible to add some lines to your dev settings.php to force settings on local only. Make sure to not use these line in your production environment as you will want the settings on.

Remove lock on Drupal account

If you've had someone fail their login attempt 5 times, their account gets locked for a period of time.

To remove the account locks, use the following:

drush sqlq "DELETE FROM flood"

Of course, if you're using drush aliases, then you can just use the following from your local machine:

drush @alias.prod sqlq "DELETE FROM flood"

Show account email address on profile2 output

Thanks to @manarth for the top tip on this one.

Seems that after a lot of digging, hook_profile2_view was the one I was after.
