My salmon came with a box. I filled it with little treasures.

Ugh, I'm a junior in high school and my dream college has always been UCSD. I have great grades, good extra curricular, and have been studying for the SATs but I just kind of want to give up because of how competitive it is. I feel like it's not possible for me to get accepted. I'm asking you because I know you went to UCSD, but would it be bad to go to community college for 2 years and then transfer? Would it be worth it? I'm sorry if this is a weird question, but I've no one else to ask :c
UCSD is a very well-regarded school, and yes it's competitive, but don't give up! and don't sell yourself short...great grades, good extra curricular, and SATs...you may have a higher chance than you think.Out of high school I first attended Berkeley, but found it wasn't the right fit for me...I went back to San Diego took some community college courses, and then transferred to UCSD.I'm not sure if money is an issue, but if so, going to community college will greatly reduce those costs. With lower costs, there is less guilt in taking an extra semester to figure out your path. We're complicated creatures swimming in a tangled mess of wants hopes and dreams, sometimes conflicting. I know a group of friends that wished they majored in something else....That's a very expensive 4 year lesson. The extra time in community really helped me. I changed my major about 3-4 times before falling in love with Cognitive Science. I'm not sure which major your intending, but UCSD is pretty-well the central hub and lead for that field. The professors are highly intelligent and inspiring.A lot of my friends were transfer students as well and in some ways seemed better prepared than those who went straight from high school to university. The only downside to transferring is that you will have less time to build relationships with professors. However, If you intend to continue with academia post grad..it is absolutely critical that you do so. Also getting a job after graduation is difficult...having internship experience invaluable to set you apart afterward. That being said, in the two years I was there I did research with two different professors, so it is do-able, but just be mindful of the shorter time frame. Also not to be the ominous...but getting a job after graduation was more difficult for me than getting into Berkeley. But that being said...employers won't care if you went to community...they look for work experience and projects that you've done.Short answer: Don't give up...after all your hard work you owe it to yourself to follow through and give it your all. Community college is a respectable option, but it should be your choice to attend community, not the default because you gave up so close to the end. I know the possibility of doing your best and still not getting in is scary, but you will regret it if you don't try your best and give yourself the proper chance.Let me know how it goesrouting for you,-Kiyarii
