time without his father was always difficult. growing up with only him around - or them going everywhere together, because petro feared for his son's life if he was to leave his side (when skylar was younger still) had caused for their bond to.. be strong. he loved his father & he wanted to support him at everything he did, even if that meant he had to endure weeks of him traveling.
which didn't happen often at all, or most times he'd take skylar with him. like this time. the travel to dele for the coronation wasn't a small feat. everybody would be there, which was why skylar had brought his most beautiful robes & clothes - approved by his father, of course. the ride had been long, but when they finally made it, he couldn't wait to explore the city together.
"do you think we could walk for a bit? i've never been to newgarde before. look at those!" jewelry in a small stand by the marketplace had caught his eye & there was no stopping him in dragging his father along to inspect it. bright blue. his favorite color.
though most of his time was spent by himself, thinking about his political foes and allies, the company of his son was always welcome by petro. the boy brought a smile to his typically stern face simply by being in the same room as him. and so, he knew sharing the ride and stay in dele for the gauthier coronation with skylar would be, though difficult, a period of joy for both of them.
in such a good mood, he couldn't reject any requests his boy had for him. instead of stopping directly at their arrangements, they left the ride at the main rode of dele. instead of trying contact with his allies in the kingdom, he chuckled at skylar's eager stroll. instead of think about finding a way to reach the soon-to-be-king, he bought a beautiful piece of jewelry for his son.
“turn around.” it comes in a low voice, but he's endlessly gentle placing the golden chain around his boy's neck, and then as he takes in the sight. the stone at the end is blue like a pale sky, matching his eyes. he wishes to kiss it all; the jewel, the blue, the boy. “oh, child... etia herself would be jealous of your beauty.”
