Social Science Professional Organizations
NSSA: The National Social Science Association is one of the national professional organizations devoted to the interaction of social scientists through conferences, seminars, and publications. They have a $25 discount for students to join. They have summer and fall conferences that are held in different locations every year and the national conference is held every year in spring in Las Vegas. The publications are the National Social Science Journal and the National Social Science Technology Journal. The conferences provide resources on how to use technology and papers, discussions, workshops, and demonstrations that include all of the social science fields.
COSSA: The Consortium of Social Science Organizations is an advocacy organization that promotes attention to Federal funding for the behavioral and social sciences. UNL is a member of COSSA. It is a bridge between the academic research community and the Washington policy making community. They represent the needs and interests of social scientists and educates federal officials about social sciences.
NSCSS: The Nebraska State Council for the Social Studies is the local professional organization for social studies which is part of the social sciences. They have a $5 discount for students which brings the total cost of $10. The annual conference is held on October, 13 at Buffet Middle School in Omaha. The publications they have are their newsletters. They provide helpful information and ideas for teaching social studies.
