The Big Brother Mix-Up

It’s been two months since the tragic car accident that took the life of one of college freshman Keith’s neighbors, Matt Holt, causing his sister Pidge to go deep into denial. When it’s clear Pidge won’t open up on her own, Colleen Holt decides to bring in an outsider for help; a friendly, funny, and strangely mysterious “Big Brother” named Lance. But when Lance’s bad sense of direction lands him on Keith’s doorstep instead, Keith has to make a split-second decision; protect Pidge from being forced to talk, or direct Lance to the right house and stay out of it? The answer is obvious, but the consequences are less than ideal, and soon he finds himself further wrapped up in the situation he’d wanted nothing to do with. To make matters worse, Lance starts unexpectedly popping up all over the place, intertwining himself even further in Keith’s life. Will Lance’s cheerful personality really be the key to helping Pidge open up, or is it something deeper about him? Does his playful flirting mean anything, or is it all just a game? And can Keith really get close to him without consequence, or will his conflict of interest make it impossible?

What happens if a contributor fails to meet the minimum requirements? Aka two art pieces or 10,000 words, if I'm not wrong?

Unfortunately at this point in the bang there is very little we can do about this. Ideally, a suitable consequence would be to prevent this participant from signing up for the bang in future. However, realistically, I don’t believe people who have trouble completing the bang are likely to sign up again in future anyway. Of course we do expect some leeway for word counts & the level of polishing done on artworks because sometimes it’s just really hard to perfectly meet the bang requirements. If you’re having issues at all, though, you’re welcome to come talk to us off-anon and we’ll see what we can do to help.

The sea had been off limit for as long as the world had existed, With Allura’s execution day looming over the horizon and the flocks of carrier eagles mysteriously dying, Lance made a bold decision to reach the Empire by sea. The only problem was, he was the first ever person dare set foot on the sea with no ideas how to navigate. Thankfully, he found help from a self-proclaimed merfolk with feet for tail named Keith. Now, if only Keith cooperated and stopped flinging himself into the damn sea below, Lance would forever appreciate it and even give him a kiss thank you.

“Her mother wanted to have her adopted, didn’t she?” comments somebody from behind him, and Lance catches his breath, his thumb stilling in its gentle brush of a ringlet away from her face. She's his, and he's hers, this little girl – he can’t tear himself away from her, he belongs to her so completely in this moment that it hurts deep in his chest to even think about – “I’m taking her,” he whispers, presses his finger to the palm of a tiny hand peeking out from her blanket wrap, and she grasps it and stares at him. He speaks again, louder. “She’s my...my daughter, I’m taking her home.” Keith digs fingers into the crushed pack of cigarettes in his pocket that he’s half emptied in the last few hours, and in the other pocket, he clenches a hand around the rubbed smooth handle of his switchblade. Dirt is shoveled onto shiny wood, the scrape and gentle patter of the dig and release of it. Covering them. Those slack faces that he sees every time he closes his eyes. He thinks of the fifth of whiskey in his closet. Anything to feel warm again. Anything to feel anything again.

His body shudders and he realizes he was freezing. His visions blurs and he’s suddenly afraid. Afraid of dying, afraid of where he will go, afraid for the innocent people on the ships, afraid for his friends, afraid for his family, afraid of himself. There was still so much he wanted to do, for himself, for his friends, and the war. He wants to contribute his weight towards the greater good, he wants fight alongside his godly friends who risk their lives everyday, and he wants to go home.

He starts to loose conscious and he begins to wonder if he was hallucinating because there was a glowing lion speeding towards him. His eyes close and warmth spreads through his body. He begins to remember what was once forgotten.

Note that due to timezones, late responses, etc. we may take a bit to post. If one partner sends us a link and the other partner is late, we’ll wait up to 2 days for the tardy partner to get their stuff posted and sent to us. At that time, we’ll will advertise the links to the stuff we do have, regardless of whether a group is completed or not so that everyone gets their fair share of views. Posting is going to be Sept. 15th through Sept. 22nd.

To officially claim a posting date, follow these steps: 

1. Before you do anything else regarding date claims, make sure you and your partner(s) have agreed on a posting date. Posting dates are per group not per participant, so you need to have figured this ish out with your artists/writers before you claim.

2. Have your fic number. Whoever is claiming needs to know the KLM# or KLT# code we assigned during fic claims back in... whenever that was. March? I dunno fam it’s been a while. If you don’t remember it, first check the emails you’ve received from us because it should be there somewhere, and if you have any questions after that, shoot us a message/email/DM/etc.

4. In the “name” field, type your fic number.

5. Pick a date & hit send.

Keith and Lance are out scoping a supposed Galra-held territory when their comms are mysteriously cut off and they are warped by a strange green light to a mostly oceanic planet in a distant galaxy. Their pod crash-lands next to the remains of a long-destroyed spaceship and are forced to survive in the strange environment with only the clothes on their back and each other. 

This is a Subnautica AU, so keep in mind there will be major spoilers for the game.

Except this dreamy new gig is a nightmare in disguise: he has to take care of cleaning the messes of Keith, who he doesn’t get along with, the promising recruit of the company, who started acting out ever since Shiro’s mysterious disappearance, the rumours of Galra Corporation’s involvement… Slowly, pieces of both puzzles – Keith and Shiro’s disappearance – start to fall into place for Lance. But maybe uncovering both of these hold more dangers than he first thought…
