Statement of Sasha Grey regarding the destruction of a cult. Statement taken March 27th 2012. Statement recorded September 17th 2014. Recording by S. Klein of the Klein Institute Los Angeles. Statement begins.
Have you ever tried to burn blood? It doesn't work, it shouldn't work. Y'know? It just coagulates and boils.
The cult of the free light used to exist up in the forests of northern Michigan. My father was the first to join, when he dragged me and my mother up to visit their site. He was hooked... And I was raised in the cult from the age of 10.
They believe that light itself is god. That any kind of bright thing is to be treated as holy and that the dark is evil, scary, lonely. And I used to believe that too. Worshiping the Light was easy, life in the cult wasn't.

Work...
Always working, always outdoors where the light is brightest... Always fearing the dark. There was no night in the cult... They made sure of that.It was around this time two years ago when I first heard the voice... I had had a nightmare, one of many, and when I woke up there was this... Voice...
Come here, come here, Children of the night... The blood is warm, you need not fright...
She was calling to me from somewhere outside... Outside reality... Somewhere only I could hear. And it was comforting, like my mother singing to me before the cult took her away.
I knew that instant that there were things greater than us humans. Non benevolent things that feed off people like you and I... And that I was to become one with one of them. The next few nights I felt comforted, like I was drifting alone in a sea of red, like I wasn't alone anymore, and like I wasn't going to be hurt again.
The next week was when the flames started speaking to me. Their hushed whispers became my lullabies. They told me stories, stories about things no human should find comforting and yet... And yet I found them all too comforting.
The cult called me unholy when I told them. They dragged me into their lowest depths and chained me there. Leaving me alone with my god... And a single candle.
And so I listened... Listened to every story of blood and flame and the joy of tracking... Of killing... Of feasting on the flesh of those deemed deserving. And it was wonderful...
Eventually the candle burned out... And I was truly alone... I don't know how long I was in there after that, it truly felt like I had been separated from my god, from the Hunting Flame. When I was finally let out I was brought to the where I was to be judged on my holiness... They thought the light would purify my hungry soul... No... They were sorely mistaken when they brought me into that candle filled sanctuary... That... That is when my god first truly gave me an order.

FEAST
Show them what the hunting flame is capable of.
And so I did... I killed every last one of them in that building... And when the it caught fire I just laughed...My father was the last to go... I made sure he suffered... I tore open his chest and ate his still beating heart while I giggled on the pyre of their religion.
That night the others would realize their mistake... And I would gorge myself on the flesh of my prey, of my God's sacrifices...
When it was all over... I let the children run... My little pups would spread my word throughout their escape...
They're actually the reason I came here... They said I'd quite enjoy this place ... And I think I do... It's a shame it will all burn with everything else...
Statement of Jeremiah Krantz regarding a trip to Ireland. Statement taken January 6th 2005. Statement recorded September 16th 2014. Recording by S. Klein of the Klein Institute Los Angeles. Statement begins.
It was a wonderful trip... It really was. But then again it wasn't at all. Did you know that the last wolf in Ireland was killed in 1786? Or... At least the last real one.
It started off as this black shape in the corner of my eye, a hulking figure that wouldn't leave me. At that time it didn't have a shape at all... Just a blob of darkness vignetting my vision. No one believes me when I tell them about it, not even my husband. Though he was never around when it happened anyways.
When I first actually noticed it we were in Cobh at Saint Colman's. I've always loved cathedrals because they felt safe, but this was the first time I felt like it wasn't. Because there in the front row... Was the wolf. Practically colossal compared to those sitting next to it. I froze, I mean what else would you do when a massive black wolf is staring you down from the front row of your safe space.
A few days later and we found ourselves in Wexford at Selskar Abey. And there it was again... This time it wasn't static. It came right up to me and just... Stared. It felt wild, in a sort of primal way that I just haven't been able to explain since. I'm realizing now that it seemed to show up the most at religious sites. That's not to say I didn't see it outside of said sites.
There were a few times that it would follow me while I was on a walk. One of those times I didn't see it but you can't convince me it wasn't there. I could hear it, the soft breathing, the crunch of leaves. I ended up running most of the way back to the car... Even then it kept up with me.
By that point I wasn't sure what it was doing anymore... Whenever I was alone it would show up and just... Be there. I was terrified, you would be too if a massive black wolf was shadowing you like it wants to make you it's next meal.
I had never tried to touch it before until it showed up again while I was alone in the ruins of Saint Mary's, in Kiloggy. That was when I made up my mind. I was going to be brave. And so I did it, when it showed up to stare at me I just... Reached out and... Rested my hand on its forehead. It felt like touching nature itself, like I was suddenly a feral creature myself. Like I wasn't in control of my body anymore and was overtaken with a need to track and kill prey.
Ever since then I've struggled with subconsciously following people until they start running away. Sometimes even then I don't stop. I need help, that's why I came to this institute. Because it's the only place left that hasn't called me crazy or thrown out my story as nonsense.
It's not nonsense... I swear... You have to believe me...
Sophia wanders the streets of London, seemingly lost in her thoughts, her gaze wandering and her stride short and slow, like she has all the time in the world. She doesn't show any sense of urgency, even as the sun begins to set and the street lamps flicker on around her - even as the shadows darken and the streets empty of people, save for a few lurkers here and there.
She doesn't appear to be afraid of the dark, or of what could be in it: in fact, she seems to be deliberately sticking to the shadows more than the light, turning down alleyways and shortcuts that could be concealing anything and anyone, constructing her path to be as winding and risky as possible. You notice her turn out of a side-street ahead of you; she pauses, looks up at the now-soot-black sky for a brief moment, then... closes her eyes..? - and begins walking in your direction. As she passes you, you realise that she's humming, just loud enough for you to hear.
It doesn't sound like any song you've ever heard before. It doesn't even sound like a voice; not a human voice, anyway. The only thing you can liken it to is siren-song: monstrous yet heavenly, beautifully captivating, beckoning you to interact with her in some way. It awakens something in you - tugs at your very nature - and you're compelled to follow her, whether to question, to hurt, to observe, or to befriend. Whichever feels more natural to you.
Ms Klein follows silently behind the woman, somewhat enthralled and somewhat having a lack of something to do after visiting her boss in London. "Excuse me Miss?" She says as she taps the woman on the shoulder.
At first, Sophia's only acknowledgement of the tap is that she stops humming; her silence leaves a lingering, staticky sort of absence in the air, lessening the compulsion somewhat. Then, she slows down to walk beside the other woman, opening her eyes as she does so.
As it turns out, she has more eyes than just two; six others open around the two that would normally be there. Eight total, like a spider. She doesn't reply - she just watches Ms Klein, likely waiting for a reaction.
"hm... I've seen worse..." She says quietly. She seems to inspect them for a moment. "Y'know the Klein Institute is an equal avatar employer if you're ever in need of a job" she smiles and keeps walking with you. "So tell me about yourself"
Her eyes widen at that. There's a slight hesitation before she asks, clearly surprised, "You've... 'seen worse'? That's, um..."
She laughs a little, revealing two large fang-like structures protruding from the top gum, just in front of her teeth, and returns the smile. "That's not something I hear a lot," she finishes finally. "And thank you - I'll keep that in mind if I'm ever out of a job. I'm Sophia. Avatar of the Web, if you couldn't tell from the, uh... you know." She motions to herself, presumably to the extra eyes.
"What about you? What's your name? And what's the Klein Institute?" She's remarkably eager, especially compared to how mysterious she was trying to come across as at first. Something about Ms Klein's response to her, maybe.
"I'm Sasha! The Klein Institute is a branch of the Magnus Institute that my great great whatever many greats grandfather created!" She's beaming at the chance to yap. "And yeah... On the worse front... I've seen Nikola's skinned mannequins at least once" she sighs. "So how bout you?
"Oh! Sasha's a nice name. I knew a Sasha once. I know the Magnus Institute as well. That explains why you've 'seen worse'..."
She pauses. "Ah... I wouldn't say I've seen anything that gruesome - I mean, I've seen things that don't make sense, things that'd probably drive me mad if I let them, but surprisingly nothing too, um... gorey, I guess? I should consider myself lucky in that regard." A bit of a shudder runs down her spine, and she hastily changes the subject.
"If you don't mind me asking, are you an avatar, like me? Or are you just really unlucky?"
"well when I was a teen the hunt sorta 'sank it's teeth into me', if you'll forgive my awful pun" she says, chuckling at her own joke. "I was 17 when I picked up photography as a hobby. From there it turned from a hobby into an obsession with... Well... Tracking down subjects. I'd sorta pick someone, and then hunt them down until I got the perfect shot" she explains. "Photographers call or something like that"
She smiles at the pun, appreciating the humour, though it's impossible to miss the way her shoulders raise a little; she must be wary of the Hunt. Even so, she continues in the same casual tone, "That's fair. I mean, tracking people down isn't my kind of thing, but I can understand the obsession with the 'perfect shot' - I used to do quite a bit of painting, when I was younger. Travelled the country looking for the best views. I can respect the art in it."
After a brief hesitation, she adds, "It's, uh... nice to meet a Hunt avatar who isn't actively trying to murder me. If that's, um, not a weird thing to say?"
"Nah that's fully understandable" she says, smiling softly. "Though not all Avatars end up being violent beasts, some of us are just... People with obsessions" she explains. "So what exactly do you do as an Avatar of the Web?"
She relaxes again, visibly relieved, and nods. "I know. I just try to be cautious, that's all."
At the question, she tilts her head slightly, considering her words carefully. "Well... mostly just the basic spider-y stuff, I guess? I used to lean into the manipulation a lot more - there's probably at least a handful of people out there whose lives were ruined because of me, poor sods... but I tend not to make it personal anymore. Not unless I find someone I really dislike, anyway..." she adds, barely loud enough to hear. Then she clears her throat and continues.
"Most of the time, I just let these guys wreak havoc on someone." She reaches into her hoodie pocket; when she brings her hand back out, cupped in her palm is a cluster of small, orange spiders. She holds them out with a grin, clearly proud of them.
She smiles wildly, you notice she has what appears to be small fangs instead of k9 teeth, "oh my gosh they're adorable!!!" She pokes one and it jumps on her finger before she puts it back. "So how does it work? Do you get like... Spider vision? Or can you walk on walls and stuff?"
"Thank you!" She laughs when one jumps on your finger. Once you're finished, she gently puts the spiders back into her pocket. "Ah, no walking on walls sadly - I kind of have spider vision though! These give me better peripheral vision," she explains, pointing to one of her extra eyes. "Also, you know how spiders know when something touches their web because of the vibrations? Well, if I want to keep an eye on a certain person or place, I can make a thread to connect them to me; then if anything disturbs the thread, I know to go and put it right again. That's always useful. And obviously I can compel people to do things, to a certain degree."
Her gaze flicks down to where she saw the fangs before, then back up again. "What about you? I noticed you have fangs - those are pretty cool!"
she smiles wider as you point out her fangs. "Oh! Yeah, I can sort of... Track someone regardless of where they are," she says. "It comes in handy when you're following up on statements," She continues. "Though sometimes I get this thing where I'll spot an interesting person and just NEED to track them down... Which is actually how I get most of my statements these days"
"That does sound useful," Sophia hums at the first part. At the second part, she cocks her head to one side and asks, "Does it ever get annoying, needing to find people like that? I can imagine it'd be pretty inconvenient if you were, I don't know, shopping for groceries or something and then all of a sudden you have to track someone down... but then again, I guess it would be worth it in the end?" She seems genuinely curious.
"it was at first but I think I've gotten used to it by this point," she explains. "When it first happened I tried to ignore it but it just kept getting worse until eventually I snapped and ended up literally chasing them down the street..." She pauses. "It was... Really embarrassing..." She sighs.

Statement of myself! Regarding hearing a voice by myself!
For context, I was a weird ass kid, I was the kid who would believe the moon was cheese if I didn't know it wasn't already. Now if you gave a kid likr that who had access to their parent's phone it lead to some..interesting stuff, and the online quizzes did not help
During one of these quizzes I found out what a 'Guardian Angel' was, and my little self was determined to talk to mine. So I looked up how to do exactly that, and the simple was 🌟 mediation 🌟 it was simple enough from what I remembered, close my eyes, focus, probably talking, idk been awhile
So when I was in my room alone I decided to do it, doing my best to follow the instructions giving. After awhile nothing happened, so I quietly just said 'Hello?' And then after that I heard a voice say
'Hi' the voice sounding like a grown man's voice, it was deep, but didn't sound mean, more like kind ig, but it still scared me tho
After hearing that I quickly opened my eyes and looked around, and called out to my brother, thinking it was him, but he didn't respond. Which it wasn't him because he was around the same age of me. I knew no one else could have said it, my siblings were young, and I lived with my mom at the time, so I knew that if it wasn't them then the dumb mediation thing actually worked
I think I tired doing it again, but it didn't work, so I gave up, I didn't tell my family tho, I knew they wouldn't believe me. I not into that stuff anymore, but I definitely believe in the supernatural because of that interaction, hopefully they're weren't a demon tho
Statement ends ig!
Sounds almost like a benevolent manifestation of the Eye, since said angel would be watching over you at all times. A very interesting story indeed. Just make sure it doesn't turn out to be Elias.
Statement of Ezekiel Thomas regarding an anomaly involving the Sun. Statement taken February 22nd 2002. Statement recorded September 15th 2014. Recording by S. Klein of the Klein Institute Los Angeles. Statement begins.
There comes a point in everyone's life where they look up at the sky, and think about how minescule we are in comparison to the great expanse of space. When they look up at all those stars and think of how beautiful they are. I used to do that a lot, until the sun exploded.
It was a clear day, extremely clear, the kind of clear you get on a summer day out here in Cali when it's 90 degrees out. I was having one of those "Up moments" when suddenly there was a flash brighter than anything I've ever seen before, and then darkness... Complete and utter darkness. The street lights came on and I stared at everyone else. They kept going like nothing had happened at all. Like I was the only one who could see that the sun was gone.
I wandered for some time, receiving strange looks as I bumbled through the streets staring at the sky like a newborn. But it was just so... Dark. There weren't even any stars visible, or the moon, it was just... Black. That was when I went home. And there was no one there, not my wife, not even my baby. They were just... Gone..
I tried to move on, I really did but it's just so... Dark. Every day I wake up colder, darker, and more alone... My wife, my child, my mother, my sister... My best friends. One day they're here, the next they've disappeared into the darkness. And then it happened in front of me... I was speaking with a barista at a store when she simply... Ceased to exist, turned into a pool of shadows right before my very eyes. By the point this is the only place left that hasn't had the light taken from it. And maybe that's a good thing. That the only place that will take me seriously is the only place left with the lights on.
