I love it when a classicist has clearly gotten so lost in the BCE sauce that their perception of time has become deeply warped. Case in point: the article I’m currently reading just described the Byzantine era as “a period relatively modern.”
Stop that’s too funny

Sorry, Hawk, you can't hide from the magical vibe check.

Yet another new study debunked the basis for the anti-trans sports bans. It was never about sports but for creating legal avenues for exclusion and abjection. This is one of the largest analyses ever conducted, involving 52 studies and 6,485 trans people. Read the study here.
post so nice had to reblog it twice and force it down everyone's throats
At minimum about 4.5 thousand people liked this without reblogging it.
We gotta fix that.

A lot of people are ragging on the 'cable diverted to avoid Dobby's grave after Harry Potter fans raise a stink' thing and while I also love ragging on Harry Potter fans being weird, in this case it looks like the story was completely made up.
tl;dr: There's no evidence the interview that this was mentioned in even exists, no evidence the route of the cable has ever changed, and the whole story seems to originate from one dude's podcast.
The story also broke into mainstream via the Daily Mail, who are ... rarely if ever honest or accurate.
However, "Dobby's grave" is very factually still ruining an environmentally sensitive beach in a Welsh national park thanks to fans leaving painted stones and fucking socks there. That part is 100% true.
categorically one of the worst feelings in the world is when someone is annoying you really really very extremely badly but theyre completely harmless and also clueless and you absolutely cannot tell them because you will ruin their day and life and you cannot bear that so you just keep suffering even though your personalities mesh just about as well as trap beats and country music
though on top of that there is also the dilemma of 'is not being upfront and just telling them you dont like them even more disrespectful' so either way you are just fucked forever
there was one (1) occasion where i just had to go LOOK MAN I DONT WANNA HURT YOUR FEELINGS AND I CAN GUARANTEE THAT IM GOING TO IF YOU KEEP TALKING TO ME IM SORRY GOODBYE which also didnt go over well particularly
what's funniest to me is that marinette is writing up security protocols in the thousands for keeping her identity safe but still has people figuring it out left and right, all the while adrien literally voice acted as himself for the in-universe miraculous movie and nobody even cares
The Great Lakes should have their own very small species of whale
hhhrrrnnffgg,, STURGEON !
STURGEON !!
Those pictures do not do them justice these fishies are humugajigajungous
‼️STURGEON‼️
@fishyfishyfishtimes
STUGGON!!!!!!!
My friend, are you in for a treat! The lake sturgeon, which is the sturgeon found in the Great Lakes, can grow to be two meters long and weigh 90 kilograms! It is the biggest fish found in the Great Lakes!!
But, see, the lake sturgeon isn’t the biggest sturgeon species. That would be the beluga sturgeon, which regularly grew to be four to six meters long before overfishing took a toll on their populations. Belugas are a lot younger on average nowadays — these fish can live to be over 100 years old — and seldom exceed three meters, but I mean, even that isn’t anything to scoff at. The very biggest beluga sturgeon ever caught was a jawdropping 7.2 meters long, and weighed 1 571 kilograms!! Other beluga sturgeons of such sizes have been caught too, and some unverified sources say that there has even been belugas that exceed 10 meters! They are the biggest freshwater fish in the world, and are up there among the biggest bony fishes in the world. That’s so big, it’s hard to even grasp or imagine. Seeing pictures of sturgeons puts it in a better perspective, I think. Here is a 800 kilogram sturgeon, a bit more than half of what the biggest sturgeon weighed:
Like, look at that. You see this?? That’s so fucking insane!!! Sturgeons never cease to amaze me with how… impossible they seem. These fish are like aquatic dragons or prehistoric beasts from days long gone, and in a way they are the latter! Sturgeons have been around as a group for over 160 million years, so they did indeed live in the age of the dinosaurs. Whenever I see pictures like this I can only wonder what the humans who first saw big sturgeons must’ve thought. I know what sturgeons are but I still have trouble grasping their gargantuan sizes, imagine seeing the dark form of a giant in the water and not having the faintest idea of what it is, or even that it's entirely harmless to humans.
Other sturgeon species are also very really big! The lesser-known kaluga isn’t that far behind at a maximum length of 5.6 meters and maximum weight of about a ton. Several white sturgeon that have exceeded three meters and even just shy of four meters and weighed over 400 kilograms have been caught, and the biggest, but unverified white sturgeon even caught was around six meters long and weighed 900 kilograms. The critically endangered Chinese sturgeon maxes out around five meters and 600 kilograms. All this to say, these old fishes are massive!!!
I get really rambly about fish, sturgeons especially ^^’ I just…. look!!! Look at them!! Isn’t that the most gorgeous beast you’ve ever seen? Don’t you wonder what life they have lived, what they’ve seen, heard, felt? If sturgeons could talk… they’re wonderful animals, and. Ahhh!!! Everyone needs to know about sturgeons!!!
now who kicked all those springs under the fridge
Other Greek Heroes and whether they'd look back at Eurydice
Heracles: No, he wouldn't look back. Partly because he's smart enough to know it wouldn't change anything, and partially because he knows the Gods well enough that Hades keeps his word. Eurydice gets out and they high five. Unfortunately he misjudges the strength of his high five and Eurydice spends her first couple of weeks back to life with her arm in a cast.
Jason: Oh yeah. This dumbass looks behind him before he leaves Hades throne room and then loudly insists that NO HE DIDN'T HE TOTALLY DIDN'T AND IS HE DID IT WASN'T HIS FAULT IT'S EURYDICE'S FAULT! Eurydice is just like "maybe I'm better off here."
Perseus: Nope. He's a good boi who pays attention and blindfolds himself to make sure he doesn't, feeling his way along the path to make sure he doesn't trip. It takes him longer to get out, but they DO get out.
Theseus: Actually they do get out. Not because Theseus is smart enough to not look back or anything but because he's too self important to look back. The moment she steps outside the Underworld, Eurydice is running at top speed and Theseus never bothers to check to see if she's still following.
Odysseus: He cheats, using a polished mirror to keep track of her through the reflection the way Perseus kept track of Medusa. Unfortunately because he thought he outsmarted the system he fails to look where he's going, looses his footing, the mirror, and accidentally looks back anyway. Too clever for his own good, he was the architect of his own failure.
Achilles: He doesn't even bother asking. Full fire in his fury he fights Hades, wins, and takes Euridyice away his own way. Unfortunately, he can only bring her back as a shade without the Lord of the Dead's permission. It only brings him greater sorrow.
Medea: She thinks Hades is lying and Eurydice isn’t behind her but doesn’t look back because if she gets out of the underworld without Eurydice she has grounds to complain to the gods that Hades broke his vow and start the 900bc equivalent if a fraud lawsuit. The whole way she plots her revenge only to reach the surface and be genuinely surprised (and a little bit disappointed) that Eury is actually there.
Atalanta: She learned from the apple-race-incident. Looking back will only slow her down. She bolts back up to the surface in record time only to actually manage to loose Eurydice on the way. Whoops.
Ariadne: Her sentimental ass looks back, sorry Eurydice, it was in the name of love.
Penelope: They make it out. Penelope trusted her allegedly dead husband to come back for 10 years she can trust that a silent ghost is behind her for 2 hours. Persephone could walk up with her the whole way telling her ‘actually you should turn around she’s not there’ and she still wouldn’t.
