New Entrance Façade of the Baroque Museum of Catalonia by David Closes in Manresa, Spain (2024)
The project intervenes on the former Jesuit college of Manresa, a complex whose baroque church was demolished, leaving only the conventual wings arranged around a cloister. The new entrance volumes are inserted in front of the former church's partition wall, simultaneously forming the new western facade of the building and preserving views of the traces left by the demolished church on that wall.
More than a functional access solution, the project creates an architectural pathway through the complex. Moving through the new volumes, visitors encounter views of the cloister, the barrel vaults, and the footprints of the old church, as well as views over the adjacent square and the wider urban landscape.
