honestly, croc sabotages his opportunities at healthy relationships because he’s never known how to deal with other people’s feelings. hell, he doesn’t even know how to deal with his own feelings. he was never taught how to, he didn’t have a chance to try: he came out of an abusive environment to the streets, where, just like at home, he was constantly ridiculed, except this time it was by more people at a time—- to prison. and the crime lord job doesn’t exactly involve many emotions aside from rage.

other rogues, even though lacking a skin condition, are also seen as emotionless creatures for different reasons, and that’s the sort of people he befriends, because croc knows with people like joker it never goes that far because they are not supposed to feel. it doesn’t interfere with his plans, it’s simply not in him.
