Boycott of Disney Mulan movie after actress supports China’s crackdown on Hong Kong

The Hong Kong protests have reached Disney. The hashtag #BoycottMulan is trending worldwide after “Mulan” star Liu Yifei voiced support for the police crackdown in Hong Kong this week.

Crystal Liu Yifei, the well-known Chinese-American actress starring in Disney’s upcoming live-action “Mulan” remake, expressed support for the city’s police on social media.

“I support the Hong Kong police. You can all attack me now,” she posted on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform where Yifei has nearly 66 million followers.

Hong Kong police is totally insane as demon. So as the government.

Please stand with Hong Kong Citizens...we are now being oppressed by the so call "HK government". The government is hiding behind the HK police, and at the same time, they are sheltering the HK police to use excessive violence.

And, for these two months, our government refuse to hear our voice, or say "heard" but still act in disregard of 2 million citizens'(there are only 7 million citizens in HK!!) opinions.

She did it, you guys. Shinwell did not die for nothing. Initially all she had to do was take down SBK. But suddenly she had to not only take down the gang but also ensure that its leader didn’t settle on a beach somewhere. And she did it. (And amidst that anger and vigilantism, she still managed to stay empathetic towards the victim.)

But this was not just about her being a good detective. We’ve seen a lot of that this season. This was much, much more.

This was about doing the right thing. And the right thing wasn’t just making sure a murderer wasn’t set free. It wasn’t just ensuring that the police did not settle for less. It also mean’t doing whats best for her. It meant coming to terms with herself and her feelings and expressing them. Ensuring that she herself didn’t settle for less. Ensuring justice for Shinwell. Suddenly her lack of expression for so long makes a little more sense, it paved the way for this. She can’t just sit and do nothing anymore. No, she depended on him to be there for her. Especially now. And he wasn’t. Her one constant.

I can’t wait to see Joan next season.
