When a large group of LGBT+ people gather and create a sort of community based around a ship, the ship becomes something more than just a ship on just a tv show. We find these out of a kind of necessity to find a person or a relationship we can relate to and to find a group of people who feel the same way, and belong to the same community. It is really important, especially for those coming to terms with their sexuality or questioning it. The CSers don't have that necessity because they (1/2)

(2/2) don’t need to go searching for a community, they don’t need to actively seek out an imitation of a major part of who they are. So when they tell us not to make such a big deal, that it’s just a ship, it’s inaccurate. Because, of course, it’s foundation is this ship. But the fight to get recognized, the fight for respect, the struggle to find a community is real for all of us. And they don’t even care enough to respect our experiences or try to understand. They don’t want to try. Ugh

that’s the issue: they do not care to understand. they are so busy staring at their own fandom navels that they can’t muster the basic humanity to comprehend that our fandom needs and experiences are different than theirs. and in that they lack that empathy, the only sane thing to do is to keep our distance.
