“the fact that the democrats didn’t win in a landslide is such a disgrace and an embarrassment and it reflects badly on them” no it doesn’t, jeff. it reflects on the republicans, who turned out to vote for trump despite hundreds of thousands of americans dying in a pandemic that also crashed the economy and left millions of people out of work and facing food insecurity even if they didn’t get the virus themselves. the republican party is a death cult who chooses to vote for the man who wants them dead because they’re racist and greedy. you can’t reason or strategize these people out of being in a death cult en masse. the way democrats win is not through convincing conservatives to care about other people, it’s by nominating candidates who appeal to as much of their own party as possible, because democrats win through turnout - which is what looks like is happening right now, as more and more mail ballots are being counted. but there is no magic candidate who would suddenly turn republicans into progressives. bernie would not have made jackson mcgoebbels from cleveland less of a nazi. blaming democrats for not being able to wave a magic wand and make republicans care more about science and justice than about simping for the blue lives matter movement and q anon is the stupidest fucking thing i’ve seen

im going to come out and say it: isolating is a self-destructive behavior. it might not be as obvious and immediately self-destructive as say, impulsive spending, drug use or risky behaviors, but it gradually decays relationships and can deepen your mental health issues. often, our impulse is to retreat from others and responsibilities for “self care” or to “work on ourselves” and obviously sometimes we need mental health breaks, but there’s a line you cross from “taking a break” to full on neglecting your relationships with others and your social needs that can be incredibly damaging to yourself and others over time
