ADORA:
“ oh no, i meant the other obvious injury on your face. ” adora teased, concern leaking into her gaze despite the amused grin pulling on the corners of her lips. “ — you mean there’s no epic fight involved ? ” she let out a sound of mock disappointment, her sigh as airy as the cool breeze. at the notion of a pinky promise adora’s eyes widened in disbelief. “ sérieux ?” the girl inquired, although she was already holding out her pinky towards him. “ go on then, i want to hear the story. ”
“of course i’m serious.” a grin graced his features as he locked his pinky with the blonde’s. “well, here it is: i was on the bus, and it was super crowded. i was standing next to this lady, and when she went to get off, the strap of her backpack was caught. she got super frustrated and yanked at it. she yanked a little too hard, cause her backpack went flying and smacked me straight in the face. i swear, adora, it was like it was full of bricks.” he woefully rubbed at the tender spot on his head, pouting like a child. “so, no -- no epic fight, not really.”
CASIMIR:
casimir’s eyebrows raised with a hint of a smug smile pulling at his lips as he sighed and cocked a hip, impatiently. “Yes, what is that? Pretty difficult to not notice when it’s taking up almost half your face,” he tutted, not unkindly but merely amused as he watched the other and listened. “embarrassing huh? you know how much I’d love to hear a good embarrassing tale from you. I’d even be willing to pinkie swear.” he grinned sharply and pulled his right hand from his jacket pocket, holding out his pinkie with a challenging look in his eyes.
kai made a sour face as his locked his pinky with casimir’s. “this is serious business, cas -- you’re taking this to the grave, okay?” he cleared his throat, face growing even more serious as if he were about to deliver the speech of the century. “okay, so -- i found a ladybug in my apartment. it was flying everywhere and irritating me, so i decided i was gonna catch it in this cup. i was chasing it with the cup and i was just really focused on the ladybug, so i completely forgot that i’d left a chair sitting in the middle of the room. i tripped over it and slid across the room on a rug and smacked my head on a windowsill.” a sigh breathed out following the conclusion of his story. “so, there it is. now you know my terrible, sad, embarrassing tale.”
SYDNEY:
pressing a kiss to the growing bruise she pulls flask from her jeans pocket, holding it out to her roommate. laughter continuing to erupt from her small frame. “next time we call a plumber, we don’t need people thinking i beat you up. that’s it, i’m revoking your television privileges, too much bob the builder for you kai.” she smirks, nudging him gently with her elbow.
kai grinned gratefully at sydney as he accepted the flask, unscrewing the cap and tilting his head back for a quick sip. “please, you beat me up? i could totally take you, syd.” he laughed loudly, bumping his shoulder into hers before casually tossing an arm around her shoulders. “i’m a grown ass man. i decide my own television privileges.”
WARREN:
“man, it’s me. of fucking course i pinky-swear to secrecy,” warren commented in laughter, their conversations used to get this deep and dumb but kai never made him pinky swear before. “please don’t tell me you got beaten up while being tied or something that has to be with your weird kinks,” the blonde added and not succeeding at trying to keep a straight face, he stared at the floor. “fine, i’m sorry—— proceed.”
“you can never be too sure.” kai’s face went blank with horror at the prospect for a split second before his face relaxed into laughter. “jeez, give me some credit. anyway -- um, well, i had my head out my apartment window, for, y’know, reasons, but i really had to pee so i got up and left. i guess it must’ve been too cold or somethin’, and syd closed it, ‘cause when i came back i didn’t even look, i just bashed my head right into the closed window.” he paused for a moment before grudgingly adding, “you get five seconds of laughter, and then i’m cutting you off.”
XAVIER:
he looked up once again, eyebrows furrowing slightly. he hadn’t asked anything. though his staring at the other’s bruise might’ve been too obvious. ❝ i don’t really pinky swear. ❞ he replied, curving his lips upwards slightly. ❝ though i think you should keep the whole tussle with a crime boss thing, you’ll seem cooler. ❞ xavier gave the other a shrug of shoulders.
“really? you just never pinky swear? i’m convinced i use pinky swears like currency, i’m telling you.” he coughed out a laugh at his own naivete. “while seeming cooler isn’t really a huge goal of mine, i think i might just keep that story.” kai chewed on his lip while he turned it over in his head. “the only thing is, i don’t think anyone will buy it.”
ELIJAH:
“do i even want to know?” he asked through a laugh. “actually– i bet i can guess. you… finally tripped over all the crap you leave on the floor in your apartment?” he asked, returning kai’s grin with a smirk. he held his pinky out anyway, elijah has always taken pinky swears very seriously.
“probably not,” kai mused, his own laugh joining his friend’s. “y’know, i’d like to object to that just because i wish it weren’t true, but it is.” he shook his head slowly with shame, dark hair falling into his eyes. “the second i stepped out of bed this morning, i slipped on a cd case i’d left on the rug and bashed my head on the dresser. spent about half an hour on the floor just wallowing in self-pity, too.”
MATTY:
“ wow, you’re so inspirational, “ matty cooed, rolling her eyes playfully. “ i wasn’t being serious. i really don’t care that much if i am the biggest flop because i mean, hey, at least then i’m something. “ she glanced down at her knee, inspecting it a bit. “ at least i know i’m good at scraping myself the fuck up, “ she laughed.
“that doesn’t sound too bad, if you ask me,” kai replied, shoulders lifting and dropping indifferently. “besides, skaters seem kinda reckless if you ask me. music is probably safer.” eyes cast downward to matty’s knee, a frown edging onto his face. “ew,” he coughed out on a laugh. “do you need a band-aid or something? i’m sure i could find one...”
AIAKOS:
❛ if anyone asks, i’m telling them you got into a bar fight—— no questions asked. ❜ the charcoal is clasped TIGHTLY between his tendrils, digits blemished in diluted onyx. the room hums with the hindrance of october zephyr, indulging his flesh where he shivers at the touch. he’s tugging the afghan across his torso, ❛ can’t make any PROMISES but if you wanna tell me anyways.. ❜ his tenor percolates in lethargy, gossamer tears blooming at the beckoning of a yawn.
“it’d be appreciated.” kai breathed out a sigh, a smile beginning to tug at the corners of his mouth. “see, the pinky promise is the dealbreaker. i can’t trust you with my embarrassing stories if you don’t swear yourself to secrecy.” a shrug accented his statement as he leaned forward, smile growing as he held up his little finger, crooked and waiting for his. "pretty please?"
SYDNEY:
unable to contain amusement, laughter tumbling from plump lips, a raw and rare sound. karim was like a brother to sydney, blossoming bruise caused her to rush towards dark haired male. digits cupping his cheeks as azure hues inspected the wound. “watch yourself karim ! i expect the full story, we’re roommates, whats yours is mine and vice versa. except my cute underwear. that you can’t have.”
“don’t go all mom on me now, syd,” kai warned, his own deeper chuckle joining hers before his expression turned serious again. “alright, fine. for the record,” he drawled dramatically, “i have no desire to share your cute underwear. anyway -- you know how the sink in the kitchen has that really irritating leak? and it just drips all day long? i woke up this morning thinking i was bob the freakin’ builder, and i decided i was gonna fix it. only thing is, i didn’t anticipate how dark it was gonna be in the cabinet, and i kinda bonked my head, and, well -- here i am.” he gestured grandly to the spot on his head. “you can laugh. i know it’s ridiculous.”
WARREN:
‘ i never said i would actually do it? i was trying to kinkshame you but it ended up wrong ’ warren stated laughing, then took a sip of his beer. ‘ you know what? this party is so boring like for fuck’s sake we’re playing these kind of games god. ’ he stood up and stared at kai, ‘ are you coming? i wanna smoke ’
“definitely did not pick up on that.” kai shrugged, eyes following warren as he stood up. he took a prolonged moment to consider the dwindling atmosphere of the party before he stood, too. “lead the way,” he said somberly, sliding his hands into his pockets as he followed warren to the door.
AIDAN:
aidan crossed his arms across his chest as he surveyed the damage on kai’s forehead. “i think it’s in your best interest to tell me,” he raised his chin slightly, “otherwise i’m going to go around assuming anyone you’ve talked to in the last twenty-four hours had something to do with this and well – let’s just say i’ll return the favour.” aidan narrowed his eyes, “you didn’t walk into a tree did you?”
kai was smirking, but he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that aidan was the type of friend to do that sort of thing for him -- and it didn’t go unappreciated. “well, that sounds like it’d be interesting, but unfortunately the only person to blame is me. there was this dude walking this gigantic dog -- like, huge, aidan, you wouldn’t have even believed it -- and i got so distracted that i walked straight into a light pole.” a defeated sigh huffed from his chest as his fingers traced over his temple again. “you were pretty close, actually. just wasn’t a tree.”
XIOMARA:
injuries weren’t an unspoken evil in xiomara’s world; if anything, they were her silent companion in the journey of life, but at least she could have kept hers hidden in the shadows, unlike the bruise appearing on kai’s forehead. the second the words crossed her ears, mara was holding out a pinky finger, chipped silver nail polish still hanging on as it began to enter haggard stage in front of him. “um, always,” she said, grin tugging on the edge of her lips. “and don’t worry, we can always pretend after that it really was a mafia hit or something, especially since it’s got the pinky-swear level of secrecy going for it.”
a deeply serious look came over kai’s face as he hooked his little finger around xiomara’s. “anything is better than what actually happened.” he couldn’t help rolling his eyes at himself as he started the story, tone subdued. “ugh, so, i went to get a bagel this morning, like i always do. i don’t even know what i did -- but when i turned around something under my foot was slippery. like, butter or something, maybe? i don’t even know. anyway, i went flying and knocked over a rack of chips on my way down to the ground.” a slow, ashamed shake of his head followed. “can you even believe it? i’m a walking disaster, mara.”
VERONICA:
“yeah, that.” her index finger traveled to his temple pointing out his bruise, kai is such a magnificent friend to veronica and frankly the brunette was beginning to feel ashamed for pretending to have romantic feelings towards him, their friendship was a priority though, so the situation didn’t mean she had to stay far from him. “don’t tell me it is what i’m imagining right now.” she frowned while a million hypothesis ran through her brain. “fuck, k, you should trust me by now. tell me, i pinky promise i’ll keep my lips sealed.”
“no duh, of course i trust you.” kai couldn’t help the smile that bloomed across his face, eyes automatically casting down to the pavement beneath his feet as he spoke. “it’s just that embarrassing. alright, anyway -- i fell asleep on the bus, and when i woke up the bus was about to start pulling away from my stop, so i flipped out. i jumped up and in the process i smacked my head into someone’s suitcase. i also knocked over all their stuff. it was so embarrassing, veronica, i can’t even tell you.”
warrcns:
‘ did you just—— what? ’ warren stared at them in astonishment. ‘ you’re mental, please don’t ever do that near me. ’ he couldn’t help but laugh along with them then took another hit from his joint. ‘ so my turn—— if you had the chance to be with sky ferreira but she tells you “only if you lick my feet first” would you ACTUALLY do it? ’
“it’s not that weird,” kai insisted, “i’ve been able to do it since i was a kid. don’t be mad just because you wish you could roll your tongue like me.” kai’s grin faded into a look of confused concentration as he considered the question. “uh, no? feet are really disgusting, sorry, so that’s a dealbreaker. why -- would you?”
