when rp blogs say "personals don't reblog" or "personals don't touch" that like. that goes double for emotional posts and personal posts. i hate this fucking website sometimes. and i hate that the only thing i can do is turn off reblogs on my posts AFTER the fact and block them, but my post is still on their fucking blog. it feels like such an invasion of privacy & a violation of boundaries. and it's especially icky because i'm not exactly running a "popular" blog here, yknow? fucking hate this, man. i'm not a fucking aesthetic blog. fuck off.

There was something in the air, something that bothered him, but he didn't know what it was.

Bucky still kept his senses sharp, listening for any noise that could disturb the silence surrounding him as he made his way down the alley, or anything that his arm could pick up on. A hand was raised, gently rubbing against the side of his domino mask, white fabric turning red as his vision then became like a scanner, making him aware of a lot of things. On the left, at the end of the alleyway, there was a group of folks standing there, possibly chatting away while smoking.

Above him, on one of those metal balconies, another person just resting upon the iron fence, also smoking. But his attention was piqued by sudden movement behind him.

James turned around, eyes carefully taking in his surroundings, only for his gaze to finally land on what he had picked up. If they were trying to sneak up on him, well, it had failed. Red fabric returned to white, allowing his vision to clear before a small smile tugged the corner of his lips.

"Were you trying to sneak up on me?" A pause, as his right hand went to rest upon his hip. “Didn't people tell you that it's rude to do that?”

OKAY, BUT IN THEIR DEFENSE, IT USUALLY WORKS. Usually, being the key word. Spider-Spark's careful not to make a sound as they drop into the alley - flattening against the wall in an almost comical manner when their next potential target turns around. It's almost like a rite of passage for heroes passing through town to get jumpscared by the Big Apple's newest spider - until today. Today, they've met their match.

Gloved claws are still hooked into the alley's exposed brick when the Winter Soldier finally catches them - the spider raising their hand in a sheepish wave as masked lenses scrunch into rather bashful crescents. "Maaaaaybe a little? C'mon, Tall, Goth, and Frosty, can ya really blame a spider for trying? " The mere mention of being rude does get a loud laugh, practically cackling as they try to regain their composure. "Oh man, you got jokes, too! News flash--- the mayor calls me 'Spider-Menace' for a reason - I've never been polite a day in my life!" ( Well, a lot of New York citizens would definitely disagree, but it's not like he needs to know that. )

The spider's laughter finally ceases after a minute- pushing off the wall to stand... uh, horizontally above him, shock-white braid falling over their shoulder as they take stock of the situation. "How'd you even know I was coming, though? Scratch that - whatcha even up to in this creeeepy alley---" they wiggle their clawed fingers for added effect, giggling quietly before the inevitable conclusion to their sentence: "& is it anything ya need help with? You'll have to forgive me, being nosy is part of the friendly neighborhood spider-duties."

That's right. He died. Sometimes he forgets that death is possible for him, although temporary. After all this isn't the first time he's died. It won't be the last, either. He's got a secret superpower, the ability to come back like a damn roach.

This is the first time he's been part of a proper team. And this is the first time he's died with frantic, buzzing voices in his ear. Although the team is worried and searching for him, his body aches and burns... And something feels broken somewhere. And his comms are fried. He has no way to contact any of them until he stumbles into them.

A soft, wounded sound escapes his lips as Hotaru grabs hold of him, relieved and confused all at the same time. Although this isn't the first time he's coming back, crawling back from death is never easy. Thoughts can be hard to string together, words even more so. Their soft affections and whispered questions. Leaning into their embrace, he merely nods 'yes.'

Oh --- oh, right, he's probably injured. The little nod breaks her still-human heart just a little more - fumbling to push up the faceplate of their mask so they can press a small, clumsy peck to Robert's forehead before flipping it back down. "Alright... alright, let's go home, sweetheart. Hold on for takeoff!" Carefully, painstakingly, she scoops Robert into their arms - making sure he was secure before breaking into a sprint. The electric charge under their feet keeps building , coursing through the cyborg's veins until the boosters on the back of their suit suddenly turn over & launch the pair towards the city. "Sorry - my suit's pretty banged up--- shit --- ! "

There's a momentary flash of panic as Hotaru shifts him to one arm - black smoke billowing out from one of their back vents. The nanowire from their wrist shoots out as they start bouncing between the skyscrapers to recover, internally breathing a sigh of relief as she turns to reassure him. "It's fine! We're fine! I promise I'll try to make this as smooth as possible!" It doesn't take them any time at all to carry Robert through the city & back to their apartment - skidding to a halt on their rooftop garden before maneuvering their way through the double doors. It's not a bad setup - minus the free lighting from the bigass billboard that bathes their apartment in a kaleidoscope of color.

" Ta-daaaa. I'd ... uh, I'd do some jazzhands," they mutter, already getting circled by Tomomi & herded further to the couch, "but y'know - occupied." Robert's placed on the sofa with the utmost care, the cyborg sitting on the floor as they fumble & fuss to get her helmet off. "Can I ask what happened? And, uh - permission to scan ya with my eyeballs so I can find... whatever it is that you probably broke."

finally.... my return, as foretold. i'm gonna try to bne a bit productive today & get to some starters & replies, but uh. the reason i haven't been here This Time is because tragedy.... tragedy struck me at the roller rink....... ( injury tw / hilarious story under the cut )

the tragedy, of course, being doing the splits while justin bieber's "baby" ( specifically, the ludacris interlude ) blared over the speakers. the problem, of course, being that it was involuntary & i have never been able to do the splits. you can imagine the panic of the rink staff & the THREE CHILDRENS BIRTHDAY PARTIES worth of concerned parents that came to my rescue. i was WHEELED OFF THE SKATE FLOOR IN A WHEELCHAIR. i had to do the macarena SITTING DOWN. and i did ALL OF THIS IN FRONT OF MY LITTLE COUSIN AFTER TRYING TO BE COOL !

so yeah, i've been icing my leg and playing subnautica 2 & overwatch. but soon. my return... as foretold /silly

Shroud has killed him once before. He fulfilled his family's legacy, he died in his suit but then... But then he came back. Air filled his lungs again and his heart started beating just long enough for the medical team who found him to put him in a medically induced coma. This will be the second time Shroud has killed him. His death is faster this time due to Shroud putting a bullet to his brain. He's not sure how his powers work but he thought a bullet tearing through his skull would be impossible to come back from. Turns out he was wrong.

Dying is easy. Coming back is the hard part. When he comes back he immediately chokes on water. Shroud fucking through him in the river. Wonderful. Thankfully Shroud saw no point in tying up a dead man so his hands and legs are free. He swims to the surface, coughing and sputtering all the while. Although he manages to break the surface he can't seem to get the traction he needs to actually swim to the shore. The river pulls him and painfully bounces off a few logs and rocks before finally crashing into the shore.

Thankfully the bullet hole is fully healed so he doesn't have water inside his head on top of the fresh cuts and bruises scattered across his body. Once on the shore he pushes himself up into a sitting position. He still has his phone but it's water logged and won't turn on. Fuck. And if the distant twinkling lights are anything to go by he's on the outskirts of the city. "Looks like I'm either walking home or stealing a car."

He walks limps about four miles before help finds him.

They're going to kill Shroud for this. Hero status be damned, everything be damned, they are going to make that shitbag suffer for what he did to Robert. Maybe they'll infect him with malware first , though. Somethin' nasty. Bare minimum of what that fucker deserves for killing RJ. Hell, if it weren't for Shroud getting away with his corpse, they would've at LEAST clawed his eyes out ! ( They should've been faster. It's their fault Rob's dead, anyways. )

Now here they are, searching high and low for the missing corpse of Robert Robertson the III , & finally taking a break.... until they see a drenched to the bone vision of RJ limping towards the hill they're sitting on. Hotaru blinks - hard , rubbing their eyes as they try to shake off what's ... clearly a hallucination from the trauma & grief of watching someone you love get shot in the damn head , right ?

The drenched "ghost" doesn't disappear when they open their eyes, though. & this doesn't stop her legs from almost moving on their own, possessed - like their body knew what was going on before their brain caught up & oh my god , they nearly knock him over with a bear hug, blindsiding the 'ghost' as they scoop him up & hold him tight.

" RJ ? ... is it really you?" Polaris -- Hotaru's voice sounds so horrifically unsure - still in their hero suit from the Shroud fight, cybernetic arm rattling from how badly her hands were shaking. "Please tell me it's you," she mumbles - despite the fact that he definitely smells like he got thrown into the river , he's cold, and normally, they would make some sort of stupid quip about it. Sue them, they're not super witty right now. "I.. I watched Shroud shoot you--- " her voice cracks from the stress, fingers digging slightly into the back of his shirt, "how the hell... ?"

Fuck it, it doesn't really matter right now. Right now, Hotaru's more worried about RJ coming back only to get hypothermia - tearing off their battle-damaged red cape & wrapping it around him. "C'mere. We can , um - we can go to my place. Beef & Tomomi are gonna be over the moon to see ya. D'ya want me to carry you ?"

"Since... y'know, we've been workin' together for a while... and hangin' out ... I dunno, there's no good way to bring this up, but----"

They land right-side up in front of Remy as the glowing patterns on their suit deactivate - tugging off their mask to reveal tired, neon-blue eyes & a freckled, scarred face. Without the constant supply of bio-electricity, her flaming white hair quickly cools off - shaggy & short as Hotaru grabs their glasses from a pouch in their boot.

"... name's Hotaru." The electric mutate puts the round, circular frames back on their face, tugging their gloves off with their teeth as she offers a small, fanged smile. "Dr. Blair-Takenaka Hotaru, t'be exact... an' when I was in college, I got bit by a genetically modified jumpin' spider. So...." Hotaru rubs the back of the neck, trying not to scratch it with her claws as they find somewhere to perch - thrumming with anxiety as they look at Remy. ".... uh, I know you were probably jokin', but how much do I gotta pay t'buy yer silence? I got some pocket lint and at least three bucks."
