So, yeah ... I totally forgot to post the results of the 500D behind the goal. But for some reason I'm not able to sleep right now, so therefore I figured I'd do some business instead.
These pictures were taken with the Canon EOS 500D with a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8-4.5 DC OS HSM lens. I tried to trigger this wirelessly, but the IR remote didn't work to great from the angle I was hoping to use it ... Therefore I just manually focused it, set it to Av and went over and pressed the button when it was possible to get a few good shots from this angle. These were shot in JPEG, due to deadlines which doesn't give me enough time for importing all the RAW-files, and they are edited in Lightroom 5.
I don't think I'll do this for a professional game. At least not this season. I find it to heavy to carry the tripod with me ... However I will probably keep using the 500D with the Sigma lens, only handheld.

The best camera is the one you have with you.

Another game ... in the international break
This weekend there was no official matches played here in Norway. At least not in the top divisions. There was a break due to international matches - and that often means friendly matches amongst the teams.
This also includes Viking, where I am a photographer. Today they are playing a friendly match against a team combined of all the best players in local football (or soccer, if you are from the US). And offcourse I'm going to photograph it.
There was a match like this last year as well. Then Viking won 4-3. I'm hoping there will be just as many goals scored today, that will make great pictures.
The gear I will be using today is my Canon 60D with the EF 70-200 f/2.8L lens, and a Canon 500D mounted on a tripod behind the goal. On this I will be using a Sigma 18-50 f/2.8-4.5 DC OS HSM lens. I'm going to trigger this camera with an IR remote that I bought cheap on a Clas Ohlson store. I believe the brand is JYC or something like that.
However, I'm looking forward to try out something new. I'll probably post some pictures. And maybe I'll even do some video ...
Patrik Ingelsten scored on a penalty for Viking FK yesterday. Here he is celebrating together with Andre Danielsen. The match ended 1-1.

What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that's gone forever, impossible to reproduce.

Matchday tomorrow - and I got a new setup!
Let's start with the new setup first. I recently bought a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L USM - this is the old version without IS - this was the best lens that I could afford for sports and concert photography at the moment. For stabilizing purposes I also got a monopod.
My old setup for sports was quite basic. In fact I used the most basic tele-zoom lens you could get for a Canon camera. My camerabody is a Canon 60D, and the lens I used up until my last professional game was the EF-S 55-250mm IS lens. Not a professional lens, and the results couldn't get better than they were due to the lens. I was definitely in need of faster glass. However this new lens is much heavier and therefore I am going to use the monopod also tomorrow, this because I am not used to the heavier lens yet. The picture beneath is the last picture taken with the EF-S lens. It is taken at 640th of a second at f/5.6 with a unnecessary high ISO of 5000, if I'm not mistaken (I don't bother to open the file in Lightroom right now). With my new f/2.8 lens I could get a higher shutter and a lower ISO which would give me much better pictures. Also the subject will be more isolated from the background with a larger aperture.
But back to the game. Tomorrow is going to be a special game - not just because of the new gear - because tomorrow is a local derby between Viking FK from Stavanger and Sandnes Ulf from Sandnes, the neighbour town. Viking, the team where I am a photographer, is placed a lot higher one the fixtures and is able to get a bronze medal, while Sandnes is in the other end of the fixtures and might be going one division down for the next season.
Last season Viking won the home game against Sandnes 5-0. Earlier this season Viking won 1-0 in the away game in Sandnes. I believe tomorrows game will be very exciting, and I believe I'll get several great shots. Of both teams as well, I reckon.
So I am looking foward to an exciting game of football (or soccer if you're from the US) and to test out my new gear in a professional setting.
Who am I?
Well, the first thing I want to do is present myself. My name is Kristoffer N. Havn and I am a young photographer from Norway. I want to use this blog to share my experience with other photographers.
I go to high school in a media and communications class. This includes amongst others photography, marketing and commercials, video and webdesign. The reason I give you this information is so that you might get an idea of what I learn in school.
Besides school I have my own home studio, and I'm also the official photographer for Viking FK Stavanger, which is one of several professional football (soccer) teams around my area. We are at the moment placed 3rd in the national league, and we only have a few games left this season, so there might be some nice celebration pictures coming up in the next few months.
On this blog I will write some nerdy stuff about my shoots, whether it's another matchday-preperation, or it is a studio shoot, I'm hoping to give others interested in photography a possibility to follow my shoots.
I hope you'll enjoy this blog.
