Some Knight AU stuff bc I'm bored
Mario and Luigi are both knights of the Mushroom Kingdom. But after Princess Peach makes an alliance with Prince Bowser of the Darklands, she sends Luigi to be his knight.
Speaking of, Princess Peach has known Bowser since they were very lil.
It takes quite a while for Bowser to warm up to Luigi because at first he kind of scoffs at the idea that the Princess sent this man to be his knight.
Luigi on the other hand tries his very best to be patient with Bowser. He, alongside his brother, are the best knights in the Mushroom Kingdom. And they are both kind but Luigi wears his heart on his sleeve.
As for Polterpup: Luigi finds him in the woods! He was just out and about one day trying to clear his head when suddenly, this giant ghost dog nearly tramples him.
Polterpup is a size changing ghost dog! Sometimes, Luigi likes to ride him and they go for a long run/ride(?)
The two of them quickly form an unbreakable bond and he becomes Luigi's best friend.
He talks to Polterpup a lot and tells him basically everything.
Bowser also likes to distract and tease Luigi while on duty (this is especially more so when they start dating). Like, he'll try and crack jokes to get Luigi to laugh or loose his composure. Often times before princely duties like meetings, he will arrive late because he simply whisked his knight away for a quick kiss.
Kamek and Princess Peach are the first two to find out about them.
The Darklands pin/crest (Bowser emblem) on Luigi's cloak was in fact a gift from Bowser. Officially to say to everyone that Luigi is his knight. Unofficially, between just the two of them, kind of like an unspoken promise ring.
When Bowser gets crowned King, on coronation day, he also makes Luigi Captain of his Royal Guard.
