PUSSYFOOTING is a play about womanhood, gender, transness, and not fitting. It is a play made with love, by a group of young theatremakers based in Oxford. A cross between sketch theatre and verbatim, with a bit of laughter thrown in, pussyfooting is a play built from interviews and workshops with women and trans folk (and even a few men) from across the country.
We are the Oxford University Drama Society’s 2016 ‘National Tour’. We were also shortlisted for the Charlie Hartill Special Reserve at the Pleasance, and described by the board as “a company with a huge amount of promise”. This is a project we have been working on for over a year, and is currently being redevised with a new cast and new stories. But we need your help.
Performing at Edinburgh Fringe is notoriously expensive, and we are also going to Manchester! There are venue hires, publicity costs, the registration fee, plus production costs themselves, and then there's accommodation and travel. In total, we have predicted the tour will cost £9000.
Our work is built on inclusivity. We have been able to raise funds to cover most of the production costs, but we still have some way to go. Additionally, we are all students, most of whom have little source of income. The tour and rehearsals total 2 months of time out of summer, meaning that for some, being able to participate without financial worry is difficult. Any money we raise from this page will go towards remaining production costs, including public workshops in Manchester and our Edinburgh venue hire fee, and help subsidise the accommodation costs for cast members.
Having a play made by women, trans and queer folk, picked for the prestigious tour and representing Oxford University is huge, as well as having the chance to share and grow this work. It is a project, not just a play, and this means continued public development, interaction, and collaboration outside of the show itself. With your help, we will be able to dedicate ourselves to engaging in these discussions, and stage a performance interrogating gender on a national platform.
Please help us in whatever way you are able, even just by sharing this post or our page - we are extremely thankful.
