Steve:

   head dipping down so that he’s not forced to look into her eyes, steve looses all the fight he had revved up & ready to go. peggy just had a way of doing that to him.  swallowing down the lump in his throat, steve shuts his eyes for just a moment. oh, he’s really hoping peggy isn’t going to make him talk about this. with a deep breath ( or was that a sigh? ), steve opens his eyes once more so they can look into peggy’s.   ❛   i miss him,     ❜  he whispers, letting one of his walls fall down. physical contact just had a way of making that happen. he doesn’t really want the tea now that he thinks about. won’t that make him fall asleep? if he doesn’t fall asleep, then he can’t have nightmares about bucky’s screams. simple.

pulling him close,   ❛       ——–  i know, steve.         ❜       her voice is soft and filled with sympathy. peggy hates seeing him like this but, it was expected. no one came back from the things he went through like they were before. she knew that.    ❛       you don’t have to talk about it.        ❜    she hopes it reassures him at the very least.   ❛       i’ll get that cup of tea.        ❜  she excuses herself    &    heads for the kitchen.

STEVE:

             better is a relative term, really. however, if he denies feeling better ( & tells her how exhausted like he really is both mentally & physically ) then she’ll be worried. steve’s spent enough of his life worrying people. people like bucky. wincing at the fresh memory, steve goes silent. the silence only makes things worse, because now he can hear the screams still engraved in his brain. they’d be there till the end of time. taking a deep breath, steve trains his blue eyes on the agent and smiles –he’s getting near professional level now with this whole masks thing ( not )–.                ❛  tea’d be nice,  ❜  he finally says, once he’s had enough of that damned silence. he avoids the real question at hand, not really wanting to talk about that. steve pushes away the blanket holding him down and stands, shoulders rolling back.

                              ❛  but i can get it myself. thank you, agent carter.  ❜    

peggy’s well aware of what steve’s going through. she went through the same thing. but steve’s stubborn ways    &    his terrible masking of what’s really going on is starting to worry her ( she won’t let that show too much. nobody likes someone fussing over that much.  ) her hand moves to rest on his cheek, eyes meeting his in what cannot be explained any other way than a puppy expression. dark hues pleading him to let her in, to let her do what she can.           ❛       ——–  i’ll get it.        ❜

a smile creeps upon red lips, hands coming up to clasp at the back of his neck. he’d been sleeping for an hour or two at the most. peggy knew he didn’t feel good —the bags under his eyes proved it.                ❛  ——–  how are you feeling ? better, i hope. i can get you a cup of tea, if you would like it.  ❜
