I'm sorry, I really am, but as a non-shipper and a found family truther, Donna Noble will always be the queen of companions for me. Rose is genuinely an icon and I love her to pieces and Martha will always be a badass, but there is something so refreshing and freeing about how Ten went "please don't be in love with me" and Donna went "I literally could not want you less" and then they went and had the most epic friendship ever seen in all of time and space. There's no angsting about if secretive feelings are reciprocated, there's no getting jealous when a third party shows up, there's no tense, charged atmospheres. They're able to have the most carefree fun in each other's company and are able to wholeheartedly support each other. There's something beautiful about how there are no strings attached with them. When the Doctor smiles at Donna there's no thought of "i want to kiss her". There's "she doesn't believe she's important but she's my closest friend and she's important to me". When Donna smiles at the Doctor there's no thought of "i want to kiss him", there's "he believes he deserves to suffer but he's my closest friend and I want him to be happy". After two companions having romantic tension with the Doctor it is a blessing to have Donna, and it's a blessing that the narrative never disparages them for being "just" friends. No character ever acts like they're weird for not being interested in each other. The "actually we're not married" is always accepted.

The only strings attaching them are the threads of fate that say these two lonely souls will find the most pure comfort within each other, and they will be the DoctorDonna.

reading thousand autumns after a bunch of mxtx and meatbun was kind of a funny experience because i low key was expecting a reveal where yan wushi and shen qiao had a secret backstory where their fates were interwoven and such. but no, yan wushi literally just found shen qiao facedown in the dirt, poked him with a stick to see if he was dead, and thought it would be funny to keep him around 💀

Yanshen are so funny to me because Yan Wushi’s supervillain plot to make Shen Qiao evil and spiteful almost barely works but like. Specifically only towards Yan Wushi

Shen Qiao is consistently amicable and peaceful towards people who have wronged him in the past and almost never actively seeks revenge but the literal moment Yan Wushi opens his mouth he’s like “maybe I should give this person a Head Injury”
