Life

My life has drastically changed in the last week. I have days where I seem okay and then days like today where I am just not okay even a little bit. I don’t even know how to cope or deal with all the emotions I am feeling at this point. Luckily I am seeking therapy and have my first appointment on Wednesday. I am nervous but know that I need it for sure. Thank goodness I have derby to help curb some of my anxieties but this. This has been the hardest thing I have ever gone through including what happened with my Dad. 

I just want to stay home and cry in my bed all day, but life won’t let me do that. I have to take things one minute at a time.

First Bout

Who knew that when I started in January that I would be in my first bout 6 months later. Tomorrow is my first roster and my first bout. I may not skate a lot tomorroe but I will be geared up with my Rebel Brothers and ready to go. I am nervous and excited at the same time. The official charter I am on goes live on the 23rd also and my first sanctioned bout follows the day after. I will be skating at midwest derby fest! I am so stoked! Tomorrow we play the B-Keepers, going to be a tough one especially since many of our A team couldn't make the bout or are injured. They however didn't have enough B teamers so some A team will be on their roster. Super crazy! Hopefully I don't get too tossed around. I just wish I had more people showing up to support me. I am glad I am doing this for me, just would be nice to feel supported in my efforts. I have worked very hard for where I am. I go to open skates whenever I can to improve my skills and any time with skates ob my feet is truly helpful. I have tobwork before the bout tomorrow since I am traveling to Missouri for MWDF which blows because I am totally missing pride and the pride parade I was so excited to skate in. It will be worth it though getting to skate in a sanctioned bout for my team. Hope tomorrow goes like we are hoping and I help my team instead of hinder it. ✌

Cognition

Watching St Louis play just gives me higher goals but damn do I have a long way to go. Those guys are impressive to say the least. I wish I could get more out of my head sometimes, I am too concentrated on body positions and such still but I know I will get there with time. Just need to keep getting more practice to create good habits and instincts.

Hockey Stops, Recruits and Charters

A week ago I finally got one of my friends to come check out a practice! I think he really enjoyed himself and wants to come skate more so I was super excited. I also may have talked a friend into possibly reffing once she gets her “skating glory” back. She wants to go skating more often and wants to be proficient before she starts down the reffing lane.

One week ago also marks the oractice I finally learned the body movement and weight distribution for hockey stops and I couldn’t be happier with my progress!

I found one after practice on Monday that was submitted on our new charter!!! It goes into effect on June 23rd and I will be bouting in Midwest Derby Fest at the end of June!! I am excited and soo nervous! I def feel ready, I always want to be on the track with my brothers when I watch them at bouts! I am stoked beyond belief at all the incredible things I have been able to accomplish since I started my derby dreams!

Now I just got to get them to update the website with my picture and I will feel sooo official to the team!

Back to Practice

So today is my second practice back to contact. I had a face to helmet collision and was out a few practices while my face healed up. Monday felt great being back and able to really dig in again.

We did the beep drill. It was definitely hard and I realize now how much you truly have to pace yourself. I tried to stay in the best I could and am happy to say I made it to level 7. Level 7 actually took a lot of the team out leaving only 5 left so I did feel pretty good about that.

Jerseys come in next week and I am beyond stoked to feel like an actual teammate wearing my jersey. You already know I will find any excuse in the wirld to out it on. I coukd not be prouder of what I am doing with Derby.

This shirt makes me feel so official to my team. I can’t wait until our jerseys come in!! I will wear it so proudly. I am so proud of what I am doing. It was the best thing I have done for myself in a really long time. I love this new derby world I am a apart of. Everyone is so supportive and just general great people. I am happy I play roller derby.
