the end of the world??

i imagine the world ends in a supersonic silence.

Like a stoic madness

outside my window,

and the detonation is a muffled hum.

maybe it’ll be sunset when it happens. Or maybe the world will end in spring again.

maybe I’ll die before I finally see it.

maybe standing behind my aquarium glass, I’ll have missed it.

maybe I’ll have my face pressed against said glass,

like a mindless

fish watching. And maybe the shards will scratch my skin, and leave me like

bloodied, and

fragmented, and

irreversible.

that’s how i imagine it, at least.

and don’t ask me how, but I do know that the end of the world is red;

the static kind of screaming, mechanical cacophony and grace.

And I know that when the end of the world comes, there will be a great inversion—

red, as far as the outside lungs can still breathe.
