i once read that in the script for the pilot he was meant to be 19!!! but tw timelines are, like, total nonsense, and not that it makes it much less creepy, so, like, your point totally still stands

i do remember reading something like that! regardless they must’ve changed their mind at some point (maybe hiring tyler) cuz he dated kate and she was said to be late 20s. i highly doubt she was 20 dating like a 13 year old lmaoo

okay i know it’s been a year but uhhh i might have just checked the tag for my username. like, #renninflight, you know. and saw this. and am having thoughts again! which are basically that: yes, teen wolf was never good at continuity – what ARE ages and dates anyway i guess – bUT. like. i don’t… actually put anything past kate. you know? like. she’s BAD bad. derek was like 17 at the oldest when his house burned down, right? admittedly math is NOT my strong point but if he’s 23 in the pilot then 6 years ago he was 17. and i put derek at 23 in the pilot at the oldest because tyler hoechlin is now 33 and the teen wolf pilot aired in june 2011 (i feel old) so he was 23, and at the oldest because crystal reed is 3 years older than tyler hoechlin and she was playing a 17 year old so, like, uhhhh. you know. whatever you wanna make of that (oh, dawson casting, how we hate thee). idk if my logic holds up but anyway thoughts?

ngl i was rereading my post before i read yours and i was like well maybe i wouldn’t put it past kate lmaooo

i think the age casting looks wise wasn’t that bad in series 1! the teens looked relatively teen like, i think the problems were more so in later seasons. i remember starting out watching the show younger than the characters and by the time the show ended i was far older than them. i did go on a little tangent there but i still would place derek as being slightly older than 19 but who knows

the thing about the “oh of course fandom gravitates towards pretty white boys & ignores female characters and characters of color and especially female characters of color, it’s the creators’ fault because they don’t give those characters any depth/plot relevance!!!” argument is that it’s just….. not true. sure there are lots of shows where that happens but there are also LOTS where it doesn’t and fandoms still behave exactly the same. it doesn’t matter how prominently the creators place women of color, because you all will still fight to ignore them at any cost in favor of white men. despite what you might think from looking at tumblr, prominent & complex main characters of color exist–& in tons of popular shows!–and yet the fandoms are consistently, overwhelmingly saturated with white characters because FANDOMS ARE RACIST, and it’s frankly annoying as hell for you guys to try and blame that exclusively on the creators. own up to that shit.
