im really curious about other folks' opinions on the yakuza amazon prime show... i had to stew on it for a few days and im reeeeaaaallly not into it. genuinely kinda shocking that they were able to make a show based on the yakuza franchise BORING of all things. thats the last thing it should be

Couldn't agree more with you. I did my best to only view it as a stand alone show and it's very mediocre, but at least its quite funny though unintentionally with its soundtrack. (On my first watch with my siblings, my sister fell asleep very quickly and my brother and I were quick to use the show as backgrouns noise until Mr.Bluesky played, in which we began to make stupid commentary on it and predicting future song choices) Though I'm sticking around till the end to really dig deep into my gripes with it. Also because the ping pong rally of going back and forth in times just left me very confused at times.

While the aspects of characters they are trying to bring to the forefront and or new perspectives/ takes of them is interesting or just fun. (Ex: Seijima,Kiryu, and Nishiki) They seem to be cut short or aren't built up in anyway. Like giving Yumi an actual sister, and a plot point that she wants to find her and like idk Yumi looks very content with the family she formed at the Sunflower. Especially with how she takes care of Miho. But that's not enough, which is totally okay to get closure or answers but the show is showing me and even telling me how much she cares for Miho but not how she misses her sister or feels detached from everyone.

well said!! i'm with you on holding some of my opinions until the whole thing is out. willing to be pleasantly surprised if they somehow turn it around! really not holding out hope tho lmao

mr blue sky was such a weird choice... where i truly started to lose it tho was mad world 😭😭😭

its really really unfortunate it turned out this way cuz i was SO excited for this show... yakuza just seems like a great game for a miniseries adaptation but they managed to fumble it in truly baffling ways?? guess i can always replay kiwami :)
