Thanks so much for your advice! I'm glad a film major saw my post first haha :) Is there a specific light lamp I need that works well in videos? Also, are there certain microphones that you would recommend over others? I'm thinking mostly about interviewing the biologists and I want the conditions to be just right ;)

For light the main goal as redundant as it sounds is that it can produce enough light. Test some out if you can. Some lights lights small lamps may seem okay at for the room but might not be for camera. It also depends on if you want an orangey glow or whitish. (LED vs usual incandescent bulb). I think though for you I'd try and find a Canon light that'll mount on the top of your camera. For mics there are a few options: Onboard, a boom mic that'll mount to the camera, or a vest mic (I forget the technical name... the one you attach to people!!! :P)
