not an apologizer but a contextualizer. yes the character did that but please understand the Circumstance. yes they had other options but they had to make this choice in a sea of available bad choices. and also it made the narrative more interesting. won't anybody think about the narrative!!!!!
What if in chapter 5 they all rushed to the exisal hangar to rescue Kaito but when they opened the doors the body discovery started playing but instead of the bloody press it was just Kaito and Kokichi making out. It still has the body discovery effects and music cuz the sight is equally as devastating
I can rest easy knowing that no matter how much I love Akechi, I will never love him as much as Joker does. Easy to beat the deranged fan allegations when yearnatron 3000 is your competition
btw i love when dubcon is used in fiction as a way to explore characters. i love when characters don’t understand how to “properly” ask for consent because they have never had their consent respected in their lives. i love when traumatized adult characters make potentially unwise choices about what to do with their bodies because they have the autonomy to do so. i love when characters make choices that i personally wouldn’t make, but i can totally understand how they got there. i love when characters have complex, fucked up, unhealthy dynamics, but still care about each other and want to do better. i love when writers trust audience members to read between the lines instead of spoon feeding them moral lessons. i love when characters are allowed to actually fuck up and have mistakes to learn from!

Im not a big fan of the idea that their pregame selves are just the opposite of themselves
I think team danganropa would've had to notice something about them to choose them and assign them a talent
So for my au/headcannons i decided to view drv3 specifically as a deconstruction of the characters and a mirror to their worst , most hypothetical selves .
But all these are BORING words >:( SO LET ME YAP ABOUT KOKICHI ~
From the few cannon lines we had of him ;
"Um... Do you want me to go out by myself and take a look around to see what the situation is like?"
"Ah... Should I go check out what's going on out there...?"
He doesn't really strike me as a soft guy but rather a type A class leader of sorts ,and in these voice lines we also get a very consistent theme of him acting reckless, like checking ON PEOPLE KILLING ROBOTS ALONE . and later on in game playing a knife game and cutting his finger
This shows that to some extent they keep core aspects of their personality which naturally leads to the main question of :
Who IS kokichi ouma
And my uneducated answer was " a liar"
We're shown that in game kokichi hates people who lie to themselves, so i decided to make his pregame self EXACTLY THAT
You can see in the drawing above that around his friends he still shows similar traits, he still likes playing games, and pulling pranks, and based on the bandages on him you can also safely guess that he's quite reckless.
However, when entering hope's peak and getting his fresh start he decided to play up the type A leader role of just being a nice guy who's relied on , not a pushover but rather the type of guy who can be trusted with a classroom .
That is shown via the fact that his natural hair is a dirty blonde and he has heterochromia homophobia eyes that he actively hides, he lies so much he'd lie about his very own features.
the drawing you saw is set in middle school before the pregame kokichi we meet in game, sorta emphasising that his very core nature is a liar
But this also allows for some sweet old post game identity crisis because he has to grapple with the fact that he is the very kind of liar he hates
This was also done for a slightly more indulgent reason which is that characters who thrive off of entertainment getting reduced to soft domestic people GENUINELY TAKES ALL THE FUN OUT- MY KOKICHI WILL FOREVER PRIORITISE FUN !
Miu is WAY less developed she's getting her own post soon however her dynamic with kokichi pregame specifically during the hopes peak era is akin to that of meangirls
Kokichi and miu 100% gossip about everyone
Other dynamics i see them as is denji and power from chainsaw man
sometimes i feel i have to restrain myself bc i think reblogging someones art with tags along the lines of I LIKED IT SO MUCH I KILLED MYSELF is not always gonna fly. but im always thinking about it
