La Città Invisibile
When Gianluca Vassallo began his journey into the Sardinian interior on 17 August 2016, he didn’t know that he would once again be taking his anger with him. Over the years Vassallo, a Sardinian by adoption, has learned to talk with the territory and look inside the people of this island. He has embraced social causes on behalf of the community and defended people and the places where they live. His most recent work, La città invisibile (“The Invisible Town”, curated by Roberto Cremascoli), presents a snapshot of depopulation in Sardinia (#sPOP). A study carried out in 2013 on behalf of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia to take stock of the phenomenon on the island has revealed that 31 municipalities are destined to vanish over the next 60 years. La città invisibile is the artist Gianluca Vassallo’s journey, with the assistance of the young photographer Nicolò Galeazzi, to ten of these municipalities, chosen among those that have the largest area per capita. The work was commissioned by the Fondazione di Sardegna, under the coordination of Franco Carta and Riccardo Uras, as part of an investigation that combines artistic and scientific research, carried out in parallel by the Sardarch architects’ collective, and will culminate in the production of an interdisciplinary publication.
Mountain-Inspired Hotel Built From Shipping Containers in Georgia
The idea was inspired by the mountains that resemble a triangle, consisting of shipping containers, the hotel “Quadrum” is shaped like a pyramid. The architect Sandro Ramishvili and Irakli Eristavi are the minds behind this extraordinary creation. Built in a minimalist style, the hotel seems to repeat the local terrain, cascading down the mountainside.
The philosophy behind the project was to safeguard the environment from the harmful effects of work and leisure. While building the hotel not only has the landscape been untouched, but the materials used to build it were environmentally friendly and of local production. Quadrum is the first boutique hotel located in the Upper Gudauri, Republic of Georgia.
Calling ALL of tumblr I need your help!!!
The standing rock tribe are being silenced about what is going on up there with the Dakota access pipe line.
I beg of you to help me get the topic out. It will affect millions of lives. The pipe will leave into the tribes only source of drinking water. We are trying so hard to get this out on twitter and facebook, but we are being silenced.
Today a security team came into the middle of a peaceful native american protest and numerous people got maced and bitten by the dogs.
I want you all to take a look at the terror on these young girls faces. Then I want you to take a look at the two aggressive dogs. When did it become OK to use dogs against children, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters OUR freakin people!!! The police will only let a dog go if the suspect runs or the suspect is violent and causes a threat to the public of the officer. Do you see a weapon in these young girls hands? Do these girls look dangerous? The answer would be no. No they don’t. The people with the dogs aren’t even police officers! They are security guards. They couldn’t even keep control of their own dogs leading to them being attacked also.
Most of you won’t even bat an eyelid at my posts, others will be annoyed because of my constant posting. This is happening right this second and threatening millions of lives. I have to help. We can only break the silence if you join us in this fight. Just sharing my post helps the reality of the situation get out there. I now beg of you to share this post in support of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. Give them a bigger voice. Help them shout this from the roof tops. Please… Rachael <3 <3 #NoDAPL

Isolated Buildings of Chicago
In the words of the artist David Schalliol:
The Isolated Building Studies are the visual confluence of my interests in urban dynamism, socioeconomic inequality and photography. By using uniform composition in photographs of Chicago buildings with no neighboring structures, I hope to draw attention to new ways of seeing the common impact of divergent investment processes on urban communities.
Isolated buildings are particularly useful for the exploration of neighborhood transformation and its social correlates because they are immediately recognized as unusual. As urban buildings, their form illustrates their connection with adjacent structures: vertical, boxy, an architecture confined by palpably limited parcels. When their neighboring buildings are missing, a tension emerges: the urban form clashes with the seemingly suburban, even rural setting. Thoughtfully engaging the landscape requires further investigation to resolve this tension: Why is this building isolated? It is from this fundamental friction that the Isolated Building Studies launches.

Favorite movie
Did you know it was mostly students and young adults people between the ages of 14- 25 from California and Texas made up 72 % of the people fighting for the cause. There was also a big number of people in Arizona considering the population at the time was hardly what it is today.
So basically young people with not many resources ‘’unlike how we do have unlimited today’’ made this happen. So just imagine what people can do today if kept peaceful. Because at the same time statistics also show people killed during these events were ‘’students and young adults’’ as well.

Magical Photographs of Fireflies
Each year when summer comes along, we all look forward to different things. Some of us head to the beach, others to the mountains for camping. Some look forward to the epicurean delights like watermelon and ice cones. But for a select group of photographers in Japan, Summer signals the arrival of fireflies. And for very short periods – typically May and June, from around 7 to 9pm – these photographers set off to secret locations all around Japan, hoping to capture the magical insects that light up the night.

(George) Lucas Museum of Narrative Art MAD Architects
“The architectural concept for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art explores the relationship between nature and the urban environment. Inspired by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe, the design integrates the natural beauty of the park and Lake Michigan with the powerful man-made architecture of Chicago. The design furthers the Museum’s mission to be a place of education, culture, and inspiration.
The Lucas Museum design is both futuristic and timeless. Its continuous undulating organic surface blurs the line between structure and landscape. As the harbor rises up to the land, it merges with stone surfaces that reach up to the sky and ultimately crescendos into a “floating” disc. The Museum is not an isolated object, but a spatial experience that is defined by the people who occupy and interact with it. Its uninterrupted stone surfaces are as primitive as it is futuristic, evoking the great achievements of architectural history. It is a place to discover and explore, to communicate and contemplate. More than a building, it is an urban vista for social interaction, bringing people closer to each other and to nature. ”
UPDATE
MAD Architects–Designed Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Nixed for Chicago
The organization founded by filmmaker George Lucas announced that it will now be once again pursuing locations in California.
“No one benefits from continuing their seemingly unending litigation to protect a parking lot,” said George W. Lucas, founder and chairman of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. “The actions initiated by Friends of the Parks and their recent attempts to extract concessions from the city have effectively overridden approvals received from numerous democratically elected bodies of government.”
The location — a parking lot near Soldier Field — was originally selected by Chicago’s Site Selection Task Force in May 2014 and subsequently approved by the City Council, Park District, Plan Commission, Department of Zoning, Illinois General Assembly and the governor. When the city offered McCormick Place East as an alternative to the parking lot, Friends of the Parks announced plans to block consideration of that location as well as any lakefront site or park in Chicago.

House of Joyce & Jeroen Personal Architecture
From the architect.
The dilapidated state has necessitated a thorough reinforcement of the foundation and load-bearing structure of the entire house, opening up extraordinary possibilities in an otherwise commonplace apartment renovation. The combination of ambitious design visions and a large measure of trust from the client have resulted in a rigorous and uncompromising redesign, in which voids and split levels accentuate the full height of Den Haag’s typical row houses.

Loving Vincent
This will be the world’s first feature-length painted animation, brought to you by the Oscar winning studio - BreakThru Films.
What is truly groundbreaking about “Loving Vincent” is that every frame of the film is an oil painting on canvas, using the very same technique in which Vincent himself painted. And what makes it a great story to experience is the intriguing, tragic, and inspiring story of Vincent Van Gogh himself. This is the first fully painted feature film in the world, directed by Polish painter and director Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman (Oscar winner for producing “Peter and the Wolf”).
