March and April of 2019 were extremely good to me. I’ll share some memories over the next few weeks that didn’t make it out of my camera roll. . . . Kinkaku-ji ( Golden Pavilion) is one of the most visited sites in all of Japan. It is one of 17 locations across Kyoto that make up the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto World Heritage Site. . . . Built originally in 1397, the temple was intentionally burned to the ground in 1950 by a novice monk. . . . It was crowded, but I got creative with the angles and a bit of good luck with the timing. Scottish Highlands, 2018. The car stopped many times on the road to Fort William. I can still remember how big my smile was. (at Glencoe, Highlands, Scotland) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5qjQjol_2p/?igshid=c76fwageik83

Water lilies and lotus blooms at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, Washington D.C. . . . . We didn’t have much time to explore, but seeing hundreds of lotus flowers blooming all at once was pretty incredible. If you’re ever in the DC area and want to get out of the city for an hour or two, this place is worth a look. I loved photographing this city. Maybe it was the strange realization that the story of this place didn’t end in 1945 where my history books stopped. Or maybe because it was the last stop of our trip in Japan that I didn’t want to come to an end. Either way, it had this combination of a traumatic past and a present charm that was almost surreal.
