To all Epic Fans who have not read the source material
PLEASE STOP TALKING ABOUT THE ODYSSEY LIKE YOU HAVE READ IT! Adaptations are great but not a single one properly keeps the same soul and values of the story because adaptations reflect the values of the time they were written let alone the metaphors and plot points.
EPIC Odysseus is what we would modernly call a Hero, he’s faithful to his wife, he’s witty but not cruel, he stands up in battle and “plays fair”, he feels visual remorse for his actions.
Myth Odysseus on the other hand would objectively be seen in modern day as a bad person, he cheats on his wife, he’s gets a man killed just because he was smarter, he uses trickery and words to win battles, he is vicious and cruel. He is what ancient people viewed as a good Hero, to them a good Hero didn’t have to be a virtuous person.
These stories are so different so please stop sighting the Odyssey in your debates about if Calypso is a good person (I also don’t think we should be comparing these stories at all bc they’re both so different but I digress).
And please for the love of the gods, Polyphemus was not a child in any iteration of the Odyssey.
One more thing before you go, the metaphors in EPIC are different from the metaphors in the Odyssey, and EPIC frames Odysseus as a victim to the wrath of the gods where as The Odyssey frames him as a soldier getting retribution for what he did in the Trojan War
