Even though I spend way too much time downtown in kawaramachi and kiyamachi, I actually live way out on the edge of northwestern Kyoto. Some people like to joke that I live under a waterfall, or in a cave out here, but I really do live directly above a river that turns into a waterfall thirty feet below my window. It was kinda weird the first day or so staying here, but I've become a little too used to that subtle noise over the past year and a half.

The large stone and shrine-like structure on the bottom of the photo are dedicated to the haiku poet Basho, and the inscription on the stone reads「梅白し昨日ふや鶴を盗れし」loosely (very loosely) translated as "the recently flourishing plum blossoms have stolen the cranes away." Haha, or something like that.

My family came to visit me this past week, and I got to chill with my sister for the first time in like eighteen months! We had a lot of fun, ate so much good food, and trekked all over Kyoto, hitting up all the really "distinct" sights. My sister even got to experience Kamogawa, and meet a lot of my friends and most of NK Crew, so thanks everyone for being so nice to her while she was here!

Here's a photo taken on the grounds of Kiyomizu-dera, right as the sun was setting on our first day of touring Kyoto.

Hey, it's been wayyy too long since anyone's posted, so I thought I'd drop a photo from my weekend. I took this at the infamous A-Bar in Kiyamachi, after my friend started drawing a face on the table. Isn't she talented?

Today I went to a studio to take some pictures with a friend. (Mayuchan) I had an amazing time there. Here is one of the pics she took of me. What do you think? ^_^

Hey, 久しぶり〜！

Yesterday we got the chance to kick it with our friend John Gatewood II for the first time in forever! He runs a blog over at the Club World website, and is always down for some Kawaramachi NK. The girl he's got his arm around in this amazing photo works at our favorite cafe, where we've spent way too much time over the past year studying, chilling, and talking about nothing. I love both of their expressions!

Sukiya!

I actually prefer Nakau, but apparently some pretty heavy shit goes down at Sukiya from time to time. This scene greeted me the last time I tried to go to the Sukiya on Kawaramachi.

The guy working there wasn't even aware of the dude passed out in the entrance of his shop!
