Hey guys! My friend Cam is in an impossible situation right now, and is in need of some help. She didn’t want it to come to this, but she’s currently stuck far from home with barely any money to live for the next few days, let alone get back home or to another place she can stay. She’s mortified of the fact that she has to ask for money like this, so I’m keeping her Tumblr off of this post. It’s better if she explains the situation, so I’m copying and pasting what she wrote on her Go Fund Me.
January 31st was the worst day of my life. I had just finished my last two weeks of work and had decided that I wanted to go and live with my wonderful girlfriend in Canada. Initially, I thought I had it all right the first time around. I would work up until it was time for me to go and I did, resigning from my position on January 31st. I spent the last couple of hours with my mom and siblings and then said I would see them again soon after a couple of months. When I got to Canada, everything went well until I had to go through customs. They interrogated me for about an hour and then went out to my girlfriend to ask her questions. Because I didn’t have the funds I said I was receiving until Thursday (my last dinky pay check), or any of the paper work / proof to show my legitimacy, they told me I could not enter Canada and forced me to buy a plane ticket to Oregon. I don’t even live in Oregon. On top of that, they wouldn’t even let me see her to explain the situation and what had went down, instead telling her that it was a “private matter” and that they couldn’t go into detail about it. I was escorted to the plane, to the point where the officer wouldn’t give me my passport until I was actually on the plane. Luckily for me, a gentleman on the plane asked me what was wrong and he ended up helping me by putting me up in a room for a night and then paying for a train ticket to see if I could attempt to go to Canada again just so I could visit her at least and not let this time, generosity and effort go to waste. This time with a bit more funds in my pocket and some of the documents they asked for. Again, I was stopped and told the same thing but in a nicer tone and they told me exactly what I needed to go and visit her, including the fact that I need a return ticket to my hometown and enough money to last me for this two week visit. I’ve already spent most of my savings and I’m now sitting in a motel where they don’t even answer the front desk phone when you call. I would never ask anyone to help me out like this but I’m desperate for some assistance. I’m stranded, I come from a single parent household and my mom makes barely enough to make things work. I’ve exhausted my resources and my friends aren’t able to help me as of right now. I only have 130 dollars to my name and that’s not even enough to take me back to where I’m from. I was told I need enough to be able to spend 78-100 dollars a day, saying that it’s the cost of living in Canada even though I’ve gone there with 300 dollars and always have came back with 200 dollars in my pocket. If anyone is able to help me—even just a dollar, I would greatly appreciate it. I have enough to let me stay in this motel for a day or two if I don’t eat and then after that, I don’t know what other choices I have. Even if it’s enough just to get back home, I appreciate any and all help that I get. This is urgent and I don’t really don’t want to be homeless because of this. Thank you for your time.
The money I had sent her won’t get to her until Wednesday, and by then she won’t have enough money to stay in the motel. Like she said, any money is okay, even if it isn’t the $1,400 she needs to get into Canada, just enough to get a plane ticket home is enough.
