Cause he got control over it, unlike every single other thing… it’s a way to physically tell his parents they can’t control him. It’s his coping mechanism
….I’m pretty sure he has more control over things than just his hair.
Not over his destiny, for long not over who he was friend with, he could piss off his parents and challenge them but they would always punish him and isolate him. He skips class as rebellion, he tries to rebel as much as he can, but he’s just a teen, blocked against his mom’s gang and his father’s disdain
And he lose everything. When he was younger he had even less control, cause he was a kid, told to befriend Fitz cause Fitz was power. Trying to spend more time at Everglen than at home.
So he doesn’t feel really free. It gets better sometimes, and then worse, when he joins the Neverseen and gets played, when he runs to Humanland and gets spied and comes back, every time he tries his parents are here.
So for very long the only thing he thought he could get an actual independent grasp on was his body - and now he’s not even sure of it cause the orders leave his mouth easily

I’m trying to explain the boy’s pov, and I read lots of characters, allowing me to quite understand how one works ^^
I find it pretty cool how deeply you can look into these things.
