Talking ghetto isn't synonymous with AAVE.... side eyeing you on this one..
i know that that’s why i corrected them
hence the million question marks
idk if this is dumb question but can only certain people talk ghetto?? bc i live in an area where literally everyone no matter what race talks ghetto and reading through ur posts im wondering if its wrong lol
talk ghetto???????? you mean aave
unless you’re in the black diaspora or you live around black people you shoudn’t be using aave
imma need non-black kpop fans to stop using aave because ya’ll don’t know how to use it correctly and i hate seeing my language being butchered like that
HEY! I am competing to win tickets to BTS TRB in dallas and right now I am in second. It would be great if you would post this ask to help me win... I only need over 530 like by 6/7 to win!!! the link is in my bio... I don't know how to give it to you on here
okay well i hope you win :)
Why Eatyourkimchi is Offensive (Updated)
Slut-shaming
Tagged their video about Troublemaker, "Hyuna the stripper" (and then claimed it was ok because it was just a joke)
Slut-shamed Hyuna, called her a stripper again and stripped her of her agency by claiming that CUBE was forcing Hyuna to act “slutty” in the Troublemaker mv in order to make more money
White and English-speaking Privilege/Ethnocentrism
Refuse to try to improve their Korean despite living in Korea because “they don’t need to,” claim that the main reason non-Korean speakers learn Korean is to find a Korean significant other, and romanticize the fact that they refuse to improve their Korean.
Also claim that they don’t need to learn the language because they "show respect to Korea" by making their gross videos about how weird Korea is
Despite the fact that they don’t care to improve their Korean beyond what they need to get by, they rate idols’ English and mispronounce idols’ names (also something that has happened more than once)
They only have one actual Korean person working with them as a translator and personal assistant, and they don’t even write her name the same way consistently; they alternatively refer to her as Soo Zoo, SooZee and Soozee throughout their website.
In their recurring WANK segment, they compete to see who can find the best “engrish”
Racism
Described elements of the Troublemaker as “super ghetto old spy gear" and then flat-out denied that them using the term “ghetto” to describe something cheap looking had any racist or classist connotations
Put on black face masks as a “joke” and claimed that they believe blackface is inappropriate even though their video is literally called 4D Black Face Mask. Even if the product was not intended as blackface, their insensitive jokes about blackface are definitely harmful and offensive. For an explanation, see here.
In addition to rating idols English, they also joke about having a separate rating for idols “gangsta English” (read: AAVE)
Call things “gangsta,” “ghetto” and “hood” but deny these words have a racial or class connotation
Dressed like “gangstas” for a skit where they talk about YG’s cultural appropriation by imitating it
"Ghetto Martina"
Ableism
Joked that T-ara’s fandom name should be T-artards
Transphobia
Played a game with other youtubers that they called Gender Bender, where they showed them pictures of kpop idols and make them guess their gender (and then made fun of how feminine the men looked and how masculine the women looked)
Anti-Semitism (maybe not overt, but offensive language/jokes)
Tweeted “I guess saying that out loud (a negative tweet about GOT7) makes us Hitler” and blocked the person who told them that their tweet was offensive to Jews.
Called Nu’est Jewest
Mocking/Disrespecting Idols
Called B.A.P “Bitch Ass Pussies” for crying as part of their acting in the 1004(Angel) mv (Martina went on to say “That’s right, an old white lady just scolded you for being pussies”)
Regularly mock and belittle the idols that they “review,” often for decisions that are not even under the idols control (for example, mocking BTS’s album title and B.A.P’s mv storyline)
Did an interview with SHINee that SM told them not to post, which they did anyway and wrote a very entitled post about how they should be accommodated as vloggers.
Mocking/Disrespecting Fans
Put a fan’s fanart on their website without giving credit to the artist and then ignored the artists’ attempts to contact them
Asked viewers to send them links of their favorite fanfic, which they implied they were going to use in an upcoming video without necessarily having the authors’ permission
Dressed Simon up as a female fan called "Fangurilla" to make fun of kpop fangirls. (In addition to being insulting to kpop fans, their main demographic, this is also transmisogynistic, which is worse.)
Tweeted about the entire BTS fandom being shitty and then deleted it (ignore the joke on the tweet in question, the important thing is the screenshot of the deleted tweet)
Other
Despite saying that they aren’t experts on Korean culture, make videos about Korean culture and cast judgement on it without actually deferring to actual Korean people
Called Eric Mun of Shinhwa a pedophile for appearing in a Teen Top mv
A few good critical posts about EYK (first three from owning-my-truth, last from jalmotaesseo)
Various critiques of EYK
Explanation of why their “joke” blackface was harmful
Rebuttal to common defenses of EYK
List of things EYK has done and a screenshot of them mocking a commenter who criticized them
And this isn’t even everything; this is just a list of the most egregious things they have done and the first links that I found. But if you read any of their blog posts or watch any of their videos, you will find a sense of privilege, entitlement and lack of respect for the Korean culture that they are profiting off their misrepresentation of, in addition to casual racism, misogyny, slut-shaming and ableist language.
If I missed anything or you have any additional examples or sources, please message me and let me know. If you support EYK and see nothing wrong with the things they have done, please save yourself the trouble of sending me anon hate and just unfollow me.
please tag namjoon’s new mv as ableism bc its extremely ableist towards mentally ill patients especially those who have experienced forceful institution do not support this inform namjoon tell him its wrong educate him that this is harmful as fuck dont let him be ignorant on social issues
While I do understand where you are coming from. The imagery is harmful to those who have experienced it. I don’t doubt that at all and the statement above has all it’s reason. It is dark, and it affects each person differently. Its gritty and I believe people that are triggered easily shouldn’t watch it. Let’s take a moment to look at the deeper meaning before just taking the MV at face value. LOOKING ONLY AT THE MV. The song is called joke. Namjoon, is the patient, the doctor, and the guard. He is everyone. Its him fighting and losing the fight with his inner self. Thus he is trapped within the confines of his mind aka the institution, medicating himself, keeping himself locked in, trying to keep himself “sane”. pulling in the title of the song. Yeah it’s a dark joke, the whole video is a dark analogy. This video can also be taken a different way as Namjoon being trapped within a media circus. Three versions of him. The real him, Kim Namjoon, Rap Monster, and the version of him portrayed to the public. My guess would be the patient is his true self, Rapmonster would be the doctor, medicating Kim Namjoon. While the guard is the version of him portrayed publicly. In my honest opinion this version is the darkest. Notice how his eyes aren’t readily visible. Eyes are a window into the soul. All that junk. The guard version of Namjoon is keeping him locked up within his true self and Rapmonster. That’s just my two cents. I’m not saying anyway thar the MV isn’t visually harmful, all I am saying is that it’s a lot deeper than some are giving it credit for, it’s a fucking piece of art.
Just because it’s art doesn’t mean it’s excusable, and that exact same message could be conveyed easily by dark imagery and settings that don’t involve asylums or mentally ill people. The lyrics have nothing to do with any of that and the fact that he chose to use imagery that is involved with violence against mentally ill people in order to convey his “artistic message” about himself is ableist and harmful and should not be defended.
Art is not immune to ableism, art is not immune from critique and if you think that the “artistic value” of the MV makes it defensible then you are telling me that you care more about Namjoon’s right to use harmful ableist imagery to convey his personal feelings than you do about the comfort and safety of people with mental illnesses and if you think that, then you and anyone else who are defending this mv is welcome to unfollow me.
their description is literally “I post lots of d*mb shit and draw lots of d*mb shit as well.” why are they talking
why do fanboys get called adorable and cute and get a pass for doing harmful invasive things to their fave idols?????
oh wait, i know.
stop assuming that all idols are cishet just because it makes you more comfortable as a cishet fan! stop imagining that the only way idols can be queer is if it’s for shipping purposes or fandom headcanons and not because being queer is a regular normal everyday person thing! stop making actual queer fans feel bad for wanting queer idols mainly due to a lack of representation of us in mass media - it’s not an “agenda”, we just want to identify with and relate to people that we like in a different way than you!
@ STARLIGHTS DEFEND THIS SHIT NOW TELL ME IM OUTTA PLACE FOR SAYING THEY CAN ALL EAT FUCKIN EAT THE CURB
They can kiss my black ass tbh. They a bunch of weak ass, ain’t singin ass, boring ass binches
Did Taehyung and Jaeyho do anything problematic? How about Hyuna?
I don't think so. maybe some of the followers might know.
do you think bangtan is too problematic?
No I don't think so
I wish kpop stylists pay attention to what they're dressing their idols in. Sometimes their clothes have writing or symbols that are problematic/offensive and culturally appropriating. If you dont understand what it says/stands for, dont wear it.
True
"we lighten the idol’s pics to make them look pretty"
so you admit, you think dark skin is ugly?
like it fucks me up that “milky white” celebrities like suzy and hongbin are considered so beautiful and ethereal and pure while literally every dark idol you can think of hyorin hakyeon kai yuri fei maru lee hyori u name it their dark skin is given the image of “exotic sex symbol” as their stage image because lets face it thats apparently the only way they could be appealing to communities that already view light skin as the right skin
ur blog was on the list of whitewashers on tumblr what do you think about that
we’re thankful because they’ve basically promoted our blog
you guys are fucking gross wtf is wrong with kpop fans
this blog does not support the whitewashing of kpop idols
hey! just a (possibly dumb) question, but it's so that i know that i'm not being problematic or offensive, but is calling seungri's english 'seunglish' bad? should i stop doing it? it's a widely used term that even seungri's acknowledged, and tbh now i don't even use it as much because his english has gotten just so much better and all but is it a bad term and should i stop using it (no matter how rarely its used)? thank you! and thanks for this blog, its helping me a lot c:
if seungri is okay with it then it should be fine :)
