Happy Halloween to everyone, especially that one kid that dressed up as Medic and I was the only person who got it and made his night.
Klaus began to jot down notes as Russell spoke, taking it all in. No general changes in health except for fatigue, headaches, insomnia and...wanting to eat ice cubes?
Klaus looked up from his notes. Now he really wanted to take the blood test. "Have you fainted or felt light-headed?" he asked. "I only ask because your symptoms sound like anemia." Klaus paused, realising Russell may not now what anemia was, and didn't want to scare him with a new diagnosis. "An iron deficiency. It's easily treatable and we can confirm it with a blood test."
Klaus tried to add the part of the blood test as casually as he could to not add to Russell's anxieties.
"You're doing well," Klaus said, as the vial quickly filled with blood. "You'll feel another pinch," he said when it was finished and gently pulled the needle out and pressed a cotton ball into the crook of his elbow. "All finished," he said with a grin.
After a moment to put everything away and remove his gloves and washed his hands, he took his seat back on his stool. "How are you feeling? The worst part is over," he promised. The rest of the exam would just be a few more questions and simple tests like blood pressure.
( injured ) :
"It's nothing, really," Klaus said, finally noticing a wound from battle he missed. It had bled through his white coat, staining it.
"It's so strange. I barely feel pain during battle," he replied. "It must be the adrenaline." That, and maybe he was inhaling stray fumes from his medigun.
"Could you...?" he asked, gesturing to a nearby bandage. It would be hard to put it on himself with one hand. Normally he wouldn't have asked, but she clearly had the stomach for dealing with blood. This cut shouldn't be a bother.
@krankenklaus
*As he hadn't said THAT part out loud, largely all she had was logic to go off of. Thus, Klaus could feel her briefly hesitate behind him, still cupping the back of his head.*
"...Maybe it makes more of a difference if you see it comming?" *She reckoned after a moment, squinting to herself:* "--Even if you know it's techically 'safe'...I mean, I wound up blacking out point-blank, the one time I got stabbed."
*That most certainly was a conversation they hadn't had yet, but in the moment, it seemed to be the last thing on her mind--judging by how fast she moved to peel the plastic seal off the object in question.*
" --Hold still, sweetie." * She coaxed, eventually sealing the sanitized part of him with freshly sticky tape.* "...With any luck it's already clotted where it counts, though...I hate it when the ones on my hands bubble-over like a leaky fridge." XC;
"You shouldn't have been stabbed in the first place," he replied. "It's not part of your job description." Truth be told, he didn't know what fine print was on her job description - maybe there was a clause for getting stabbed.
Klaus kept his arm still as the bandage was applied. "Thank you," he said after it covered the wound. Now that the wound was dealt with, he turned his attention to putting the medical supplies away.
"Be sure to wash your hands," he reminded her.
@ladyinwhitengray
"Have we met?" he asked. Of course with his memory loss they two very well could have been acquainted but he doubted he could ever forget someone who looked as striking as her.
"Do you-" Klaus cut himself off, his cheeks lightly turning pink. No, it was far too rude to ask a stranger if she laid eggs. Maybe that would come up in a future conversation, but certainly not now.
"Are you allowed time off for shedding?" That seemed like a far more appropriate question.
Good call on his end. That's a bit of a private matter altogether. Until the woman gets to know him better she might just spill the more questionable body bits.
"Hah! They know better than to try and force me to work when I need a week off. Unlike my baby brother, I tend to get hyper aggressive."
Russet is the more agreeable one and will hide away easier. Meanwhile Colorless sort of loses her God damn mind from the pain, speeding up the process in self mutilation just to make it stop. Spoilers, it didn't work that way apparently.
It must have been a combination of human and snake hormones that made her so moody. Maybe he could find something to prescribe to her to help if she wanted.
"Does it only take a week to shed?" he asked. Off the top of his head, he didn't know how long it took snakes to shed. In fact he knew very little about reptiles in general.
"It does, but the actual shedding doesn't start till the second day into it and the full replacement of hair and teeth isn't till the tail end. For normal reptiles it's one to two weeks."
Considering how painful it can be, a week isn't exactly fast enough. You get subtle signs such as ashy toned skin, hair appearing damaged, the obsessive need for hot humid air and starvation. When in reality the urge to gorge is because they will burn a lot of calories and energy during this time.
Replacement of teeth? "Is the process at all painful?" he asked. If it was, he could at least offer her something to dull the pain as it happened.
There were still more questions he wanted to ask, but he didn't feel they were appropriate for their first meeting. It seemed she had revealed enough personal information about herself already.
About Chronically Late Replies
I am absolutely guilty of this, and I don’t give a crap if your reply is a month late or even a year late. It tells me you’re still interested in rping with me. And even if I’m not in the headspace for that particular thread anymore it also tells me I can come at you with new ideas without being a nuisance. So reply away, no matter how long it’s been!

Klaus was planning to leave the blood test for last, but he didn't want to wait until Russell changed his mind. Putting his notes down, he washed his hand and put on nitrile gloves.
After using an alcohol swab to sterilize the crook of Russell's arm and tied a tourniquet around his upper arm. "This should only take a minute," he promised, readying the needle. "You'll feel a pinch," he warned before putting the needle in as gently as he could.

Klaus nodded, looking down to his notes. There wasn't much else he could do to alleviate Russell's anxiety other than to get through it all quickly.
"Have there been any changes to your medical history?" he asked. "Any changes in sleep habits or loss of appetite? Any new lumps and bumps?"
Klaus looked up from his papers and gave an awkward smile, trying to seem more approachable.
Russell's notes seemed to be fairly standard. They listed mental health ailments like noted depression, as well as previous struggles with alcohol and Bonk from when he was a Scout. What was also noted was being slightly underweight for his height
"As, as far as I'm aware mentally, no," Russell said, "Just, just the, the normal amount of, of being a, a nervous wreck and I'm, I'm essentially the, the same."
That was one of his main jokes for times like this. But then Russell took a moment, there was something.
"I, I guess I've been a, a bit more tired than I, I usually am," Russell said, "Been getting, getting headaches, but it's, it's just headaches. As for, for the tiredness, my sleep has, has never been good, and my, my eating habits still um, heh, probably leave a, a bit to, to be desired. Been, been wanting to, to eat ice cubes for, for some reason."
Russell then shook his head a bit.
"But it's, it's not really interfering with, with the battles so, so I didn't, I didn't really see it as, as anything urgent."

"Can I help you?"
John doesn't even look up from his work, carefully documenting supplies and checking off what is needed and could be put in back for storage. It helps keep his mind organized doing something as mundane as this, periodically having to lift a hand to nudge a large smokey black kitten off the papers.
"A...cat?" he asked, slowly turning his attention to Misty. Was he playing with that Scout now? Was Misty a human? Klaus shook his head - it was all nonsense. It was indeed just a Scout overexaggerating and making up stories.
When Misty began playing with her tail, he took the toy away and put it back where he found it. It seemed like a good place to wrap things up, especially when it sounded like the other Medic believed the Scout's ridiculous cat story. Too bad, he was starting to like the man. It would have been nice to have a friend.
"Thank you again for the gauze," he said, picking up the box again.

"I'm glad I didn't," he replied. If he had found out he had done something unethical he would have been horrified with himself.
If he knew the extent to the horrors Russell had been put through, Klaus would have liked to track down the Medic that did that to the poor boy.
As he waited in the medbay, he heard a knock on the door. People usually barged in. "Come in," he called out, having just gone over Russell's file. "Please take a seat on a cot and we'll begin."
Klaus made a point to keep his stool away from the bed, ensure there wouldn't be any unexpected grabbing or needles.
Klaus nodded, looking down to his notes. There wasn't much else he could do to alleviate Russell's anxiety other than to get through it all quickly.

"They all seem to be that way," Klaus replied. Either Mann Co. did the bare minimum in transferring medical files or they just didn't care. Klaus suspected the latter.
"How does respawn treat you?" he asked, wondering if a spliced body ever confused the machine.
If she shed, maybe he could one day ask her for a sample to research it. Of course he'd have to find a tactful way of asking - it seemed like an intimate thing to ask for.

"Oh. I'll see if his file has been given to me yet," he said, not sounding particularly interested. Another Scout meant another annoyance, but that didn't mean he'd refuse him care.
"That happened to me the other day, actually," Klaus said, thinking he was starting to overstay his welcome. Maybe it would be best to wrap up playing with Misty. "A cloaked Spy was nearby and a Sniper accidentally took him out. It was quite an impressive shot."
"Careful, don't get so enthusiastic."
A sarcastic reply with a half grin to it. John peers over his reading glasses before deciding to rip the bandaid off.
"His is a veterinarian flie, do with that information what you will ."
They already have a few animal characters on BLU. That's more than they could say about RED so honestly you'd think the team would have more of an edge over RED. Honestly John isn't bothered by the other medic. It's the more noisy teammates that give him a headache
"Those are oddly satisfying results."
A veterinarian file? Mann Co. ought to invest in a veterinarian at this point. "So he's a splice?" Klaus concluded. "May I ask what he's spliced with?" Klaus would do his best to research whatever animal it was to learn how to treat him the best way possible.
Klaus wiggled the toy one last time to get Misty to pounce on it. And then he'd be on his way, but hopefully he'd see the cat more. Maybe she'd get along with the other Misty.

"I think I'm glad I don't remember that," Klaus replied, although he was surprised instances like that didn't happen more often.
Klaus removed the gauze and took a peek of at his injury. Sanitising the wound would be the worst part of it all. All his patients - especially Scouts- squirmed when their wounds had to be cleaned.
With his free hand, he took the sanitisation cream and gingerly dabbed some on, hissing in pain as it began to do its work.
