My favorite part about Buck and Eddie’s friendship is that Eddie accepts Buck’s idiosyncrasies in a way even Hen, Chim and Bathena don’t.

You can see the others humoring him but also finding him humorous in an “oh child” way but Eddie just always looks fond and then provides the backstory/context - like with the natural disasters, or the most recent one about the zoo. Sometimes he also gets into it, like the true crime podcast and the clipboard. (I think maybe it’s because of Christopher because it has parallels to the way he parents his son.) Eddie still sasses Buck but he also listens to all of Buck’s hyperfixations.

I’ll never say I hate religion because I can still appreciate the hope and comfort it provides for a lot people. There really are some people who, without religion, would probably never develop any kind of moral compass on their own because damn if there isn’t an enormous lack of empathy. Anyway, I feel like it does still serve a purpose and I respect it for that. But FUCK if I don’t hate how blinded some people are by it. Some people seriously just lose all objectivity the SECOND they see any sort of relevant religious iconography presented in the context outside of what they’re used to.

Not sure who knows this already but 6 months ago, Denver started having mental health professionals respond to mental health incidents instead of police. Some early data:

0 arrests were made among 748 incidents

41% of people were taken to a shelter or hospital

0 incidents were violent

6x a day, police were freed up to work on more serious criminal activity

“Defund the police” materializes through progressive steps like this. We need to pressure more law enforcement agencies to follow suit.
