fans who've latched on to a blank slate irrelevant white male character will project all kinds of headcanons, lore, backstory etc. onto said character with no canon basis for it and then will not only treat it as fact but then yell at everyone else and treat them like idiots for not being interested in the character they've made up in their heads. yay 💖

and the thing that gets me is. it's never speculation like "oh, this white character has been accustomed to privilege all their life, so they might not react to or handle the situation with gerrard in the best way" or "there was a literal out of context bts pic of this white character playing golf with gerrard, that could mean something bad". no! because the benefit of the doubt is always given to buck! and yet. there was a single picture of ryan with a mustache. and fandom exploded with speculation that he was growing it in order to "assimilate" with a bigot and become his good little soldier and betray his friends. this fandom is just full of people salivating over their fantasies of white people being oppressed and poc doing the oppressing and it's. really sickening.
